About UK Birds - Birdwatching App

Bird watching app containing photos and information for over 600 birds that either live or have been spotted in Great Britain and the British Isles.

Works completely offline, with no need for additional downloading. Filter birds based on type, or status in the UK or search for them by name. Enlarge the images for easier viewing by touching them.

You can now listen to the songs of over 40 of the birds, with lots more to come in future updates.

The app lets you mark the birds that you've spotted to help keep track of which species have been seen and which are still eluding you.

A must-have for all keen ornithologists, birders, birdwatchers, twitchers or whatever you choose to call yourself!

I've tried a few bird apps and this is the most useful, used it twice today

D70%

Really useful app. Thanks to the developer. Have suggested a dat list would be good for the upgrade.

J70%

Why's there no exit button?

D70%

Good pictures, not too big. Comprehensive

D70%

Fantastic app for the UK. Love making use of it regularly when out and about.

Great app fab info

D70%
by D####:

Great and comprehensive app

E70%
by E####:

Would be useful to be able to search by size, colour or location (river, field, etc.) but still very handy and worthwhile.

U70%
by U####:

Will it be possible to have separate options for male and female eventually? E.g. Drake and mallard. Also not sure if it's possible to record multiple sightings at different sites/dates? Love the app otherwise, so cool being able to track birds and recognise sounds.

O70%
by O####:

It's an okay app but it hasn't been updated for almost 2 years and is missing some common species such as Prunella modularis. Looks like the developer has vanished but still collecting the money for the app...

K70%
by K####:

i dont judge an app alone, I compare and analyse to give the most honest & fair review possible. This app has come along way recently & is now becoming one of the better group. With higher quality pictures it's really beginning to shine (though some nice pics seem to have pixilated for some reason on my divice). The sounds I've tried are among the best I've heard. However, there is still a cuckoo with the sparrowhawk. I admire the determination to make this app top notch! Please keep up the good work!

by G####:

Love the app. Use it as a birdwathing checklist. The 'notes' and 'date seen' sections are handy but I have held off using these features due to the lack of a back up/sync or export feature. All input data would be lost should I lose or have to reset my phone. Would really love to see some sort of backup feature in the future. Other than that it is a brilliant app. Thank you!

Y70%
by Y####:

Would like more sounds. Especially the common ones like starlings as more often than not I hear more birds than I see :-)

R70%
by R####:

As a general wildlife photographer it is difficult to remember or identify all birds. This helps, although some names seem different to "common names" and adds a bit of uncertainty, especially if the photo is not too detailed. Useful.

F70%

Nice little identification tool for a quick check when you are out in the open without a recognition guide. Great value

Q70%
by Q####:

Really handy on a phone for quick id. More photos would be great but on the other hand... Look at the price and permissions!

A70%
by A####:

Works really well, a few more pictures for each bird would be better ! Wish list item would be sync or export of seen birds (life list). But it is a great app considering the price.

Excellent app,highly recommended.

This is just what I was looking for

X70%

Thanks

R70%

Well done and easy to use. Lots of information.

R70%
by R####:

I tried this because I was dissatisfied with the way the RSPB app records my sighting records. This app does it better by putting an icon next to each bird I marked.

B70%
by B####:

The best feature is that this app has every bird on the British list. The main downfall of this app is the images. Yes.. having reduced pixels in the image will decrease file size however a good image is the main reason I downloaded the app.. I want an app to to help me ID the harder birds.. For example Blyth's Reed Warbler... or even just to check what a winter plumaged bird looks like.. This app doesn't provide this. I've struggled to find an app on android for a good price that does so I'm still searching

T70%

A good app and worth downloading. The ticklist makes me want to go birding more.

R70%

I love the app!

R70%
by R####:

This app has come a long way and I really like the 'seen it' feature. 5* for encouragement but a bird distribution map/graphic alongside photos of each species would be truly amazing.

R70%
by R####:

Lovely app. More than one pic of each bird would be usefull but the playable song is good.

N70%
by N####:

Useful if you could list birds seen on a particular day.

J70%
by J####:

Being interested in the more common birds the fact you can narrow this list down is perfect. It saves the look of bewilderment that comes across my face when faced by the full and more complicated avian lists.

J70%
by J####:

The search facility is basic, relying on the way in which the author has described the birds e.g. European Stonechat rather than "Stonechat". The images are not annotated so you don't know if it's male/female.summer/winter plumage etc. You cannot zoom in on the picture to look at detail and most birds only have one image. The image of a flock of Godwit and one of its egg completely pointless. The facility to record your sightings is useful as are the recordings of songs although far from comprehensive. I look forward to some development of this app.

M70%

You can make your list without having to actually log the event. Listing pictures are quite large. Sounds could be placed in the listing for easy access. Very easy to use. Great app

M70%
by M####:

It describes the birds , but has no search facilty. If you don't have an idea what you are looking at , its no help at all

M70%
by M####:

Purchased this for my phone. I have never been happy with computer based apps/programmes as you always forget the details. Having the app with you is IMO a big plus. I wanted something that was easy to use and this app certainly fits the bill. Wishes; The descriptions are very long. A shortened introduction would be nice. Images/maps of where you find the birds as your would find in a bird guiding book would also be nice. That said I am very happy with the app and give it 5 stars for ease of use

D70%
by D####:

Search works well if you select all species then search from there. Well worth the few pence cost and you don't have to give any extra permissions.

O70%
by O####:

Very good index and descriptions. Nice to able to log sightings where and when. Pictures a bit small otherwise would be 5 stars

M70%
by M####:

Simple and easy to use. Great for beginners

M70%
by M####:

Useful app.

H70%
by H####:

It would be great if you could add the extra birds not already in the database. For example we have red chequered doves visiting us on a regular basis. Also modern phone cameras are capable of taking very good pictures, so it would be good to be able to add to the picture database. Having said that it is still a very good App.

M70%
by M####:

Very useful app for the price, and easy to use with bird song's on most of them and very good pic's for recognition with lots of info

A70%
by A####:

Only just purchased but so far, so good.
