ThinkEco smartAC for Android
Absolutely a piece of f-ing waste of time. 4 days in a row it didn't work during extremely hot days. And you don't know it didn't work till you get home. This app isn't even worth it and it's free. Do yourself a favor and buy one online.
This is a useless product. It seems great, but I'm returning it because I couldn't figure out how to set it up. This app crashes 100% of the time during modlet setup (and the website doesn't work, either), which means that I can't even get this product to do its *one job*.
In addition to never properly syncing with the ColoNY rewards (error 401), all summer, the app frequently can't connect with the thermostats. The modlets are a bit large for my taste, and out of 4, only 2 could be set up from the app without contacting support.
Good idea, rarley works. Difficult time keeping connected to WIFI. Very time consuming to connecting. NEEDS MAJOR IMPROVEMENT. GOOD SUPPORT BUT NEED TO BE REDESIGN AND STRONG MORE STABLE SOFTWARE
The most frustrating part is that the app sometimes doesn't read the status of my AC correctly, and will sometimes randomly turn on my AC when I'm out. It's supposed to be eco friendly but it's killing my electricity bill and the environment.
It doesn't work most of the time I get error message that doesn't let me log in. Hence I can't actually get my a.c. wirking or even stop it. Terrible product and a terrible app. I'm sure it's a corrupt deal ConEd made with this miserable company. I'm definitely returning it. Oh btw, I keep receiving emails saying that I have to activate it which I have already done! Hopefully they won't charge me the penalty of $90 per device! Worst thing ever seriously! So frustrated!
I have my dehumidifier set up but the app shows nothing. I don't understand the point of it if I have to go to the website in order to turn off the damn thing. I deleted the app. It's easier to just turn off my dehumidifier myself.
No support, constant errors. Difficult to setup. Horrible product!
Used to work great, now it crashes every time I open it, doesn't connect to my A.C. and won't let me turn down the temperature. Useless til they fix it
This app only deserves more than one star because it does an absolutely minimal subset of tasks it should do. For most tasks, one has to go on a website still, making the app not only look outdated but also irrelevant.
I don't know it may be me but this whole setup seems to be very user unfriendly. For whatever reason I can never get modlet to pair with the app/ phone or the thermostat remote control. For each of the past three years I have had to make calls to the company that supplies these for Con Edison. The good news is that THINK ECO people are very helpful when they are available. The bad news is the set up to me is impossible without assistance because every time I follow the directions exactly as printed from the website nothing gets connected correctly. I just spent an hour more than an hour trying to set up one of my two air-conditioners. Now giving up until after the Memorial Day holiday is over. Ugh!!????
This app works very well on my Android. One star off bc I could not get past the connect to modlet screen in the setup, but once I set up the modlets on my computer, the app worked great! Now I can monitor the temperature for my dog when I'm at work!!
Horrible app and even worse of a website. I spent 2 hours trying to setup the modlet using the app and the website and eventually gave up. Now, where did I put that shipping label...
Had problems reconnecting the modlet to another A/C. Realized my router was set up for N wireless only. The modlet uses G wireless over WiFi. But I am confused since I was able to still connect after I went back to N only. Anyway, hope you will update the UI soon. Could use a overhaul. Still buggy.
From the day I got the plugs I couldn't get them to connect. Spent hours trying to get them to connect. Horrible, wasted time. Don't bother.
Tired of having to constantly reconnect the modlets. Remote is constantly offline and A/C shows N/A on multiple occasions. Great concept. Great when it actually works.
Revised: App is worthless - it constantly reports that the thermostat is offline when it is not, which makes remote monitoring impossible. The modlet is connected to WiFi and is communicating properly with the remote (no "X" and the temperature and setting are correctly displayed). The remote, when used manually, can turn the unit off and on, as well as change the temperature settings. Yet, both the app and the website report the device is offline. As the app instructed, I changed the brand new batteries that came with the device (a week ago) and replaced them with another set of brand new batteries. That did not solve the issue. After clicking through many useless support articles, I ultimately followed the instructions to restore the modlet ance the thermostat to factory settings. It took forever to go through the setup process all over again, but afterwards, the remote info was correctly displayed in the app... for about five minutes, before going back to reporting that the thermostat was offline. Support does not respond to emails. If you just want a thermostat for your window A/C unit, I suppose this one is adequate. However, I already had one - I wanted to be able to use the "smart" features, so that I could monitor and control the temperature for my pets at home while I was away at work. If that's what you need, don't bother. The app is a HUGE FAIL.
Slow connection. Always gives a weird unauthorized error but works anyways if I wait long enough. Half the time it says the current temp is N/A so I have to refresh. Did anyone try using this before publishing?
I actually spent more time getting it to work more than getting up to turn on the AC. The remote hasn't worked for more than 24hrs straight. Unfortunately no one from @thinkeco bothers to read the reviews to improve this frustrating app. In fact, I use more electricity trying to connect the remote than the AC is saving. If i can give it a zero I would do it with pride.
App never works right. Thermostat constantly loses WiFi, which causes me to have to reset the entire system, which takes me 20 minutes an ac. 100 degree index in NY, I had wired up a raspberry pi cheaper and more reliable than this.
I am really liking this app & WIFI gizmo hooked up to the A/C. No more leaving the A/C on while I am out. I can remotely turn it on about 10-15 minutes away from home and walk in to a cool paradise. Update 8/10/2016, I don't know what happens, I don't know if its the WiFi or what but I am constantly having to reset the whole thing, which is time consuming. Thinkeco smart A/C is a great idea but the company still needs to work out the kinks
The idea is great, but the app never works properly. Maybe 1 out of 10 times if you're lucky. Seems to be a similar theme with their website too. Needs serious improvements if they expect people to spend money on their devices. If the app doesn't work, what's the point of having an app controlled air conditioner or other appliance?
I Keep getting an xml service unavailable message when attempting to log into the app. Error messages when setting up the modlet are not descriptive. I could go on and on. This app and it's support are clearly amateur hour. Glad I didn't have to pay for this garbage.
good concept but not as easy to install. finally got one ac to be recognized but then it turned off my ac when it's very hot in ny. now the app doesn't work. Error: Unhandled server error. An error occurred while updating the entries. See inner exception for details. uggh. most likely returning this.
In addition to never properly syncing with the ColoNY rewards (error 401), all summer, the app frequently can't connect with the thermostats. The modlets are a bit large for my taste, and out of 4, only 2 could be set up from the app without contacting support.
Modlets are great. My regular ac is now a smart one. But the app is so problematic. Constant errors, temperature updates are slow, doesn't respond or turn acs on or off. Need a serious update or rehaul.
The product concept is smart and saves me money in the summer time. The gift cards incentive is definitely a bonus. I can't really complain, considering I got 270$ worth of smart ac kits for free. They do have their hiccups sometimes, which is understandable for a tech startup. Overall I'm glad I got their kits that give my 1990's AC units remote capabilities.
App was painful to use from the start. Was on a Nexus, but even with customer support I couldn't get it set up. In the end they directed me to use an iOS device. The thermostat dropped out of the network overnight and then had to start the whole process over again from scratch. Why hasn't app been updated in a year with all bad the reviews? Probably will return modlet.
Neither app nor remote turn my ACs on or adjust the temp. If I'm lucky, it turns them off, but that's not really lucky because then they're off. Terrible interface, can't tell what the buttons are supposed to do, but maybe if they actually worked I could figure that out.
2 phones in the same house and neither of them can turn off the a/c. This is a waste!!! It doesn't respond to to either of the 2 phones.
App works about once a month but the smart AC idea is great. I just have to rely on the remote in the house, can't control from outside the house which stinks. App needs to be completely reworked.
No support, constant errors. Difficult to setup. Horrible product!
Worst piece of crap. It's taking me hours to set up. Keeps crashing. Total garbage. Now where did I put that return label?
Had problems reconnecting the modlet to another A/C. Realized my router was set up for N wireless only. The modlet uses G wireless over WiFi. But I am confused since I was able to still connect after I went back to N only. Anyway, hope you will update the UI soon. Could use a overhaul. Still buggy.
As of today, app won't even open, gives "Error 503 Service Unavailable." Good concept, horrendous execution.
Summer 2016 begins and app totally failing already! At least you're consistent!
Without a doubt the most poorly designed app in the entire Google play store
I get constant errors. This app rarely works correctly.
App constantly crashes, takes forever to load, and sometimes doesn't recognize my selections

Lots of crashes and HTTP error message popups. The hardware is impressively flaky as well. Basically, this is total garbage, but I got it free from ConEd (still, it's not really even worth zero dollars though).
