You can also listen to religious music. Recitation of the Qur'an is an important type of religious interpretation without accompaniment, such as the zikr ritual of the Sufis using songs called na't, and the Shi'a singing style as well as in known group as mursia, manqasat, nowheh and rowzeh. The Chishti Sufi sect of Kabul is an exception since they use instruments like the rubab, the table and the harmonium in their veneration; this music is called gaza-yeh ruh (food for the soul).
The music called klasik, includes both instrumental and vocal music, as well as dances, as well as tarana and ghazals. Several Ustads, or professional musicians, have learned classical music from India, and use theories and terminology of Indian music.
The instruments used are: percussion table, zerbaghali, dayra and dohol; the instruments of pulsed string dutar, sitar, tambur and rubab; the stringed instruments dilute and ghichak, and the wind instrument sneers. The rubab is a national instrument.
Known singers are Ustad Mohammad Hussain Sarahang, Ustad Qasim, Ustad Rahim Bakhsh and Ustad Nato, while Rubab performers are Ustad Mohammad Omar, Aziz Herawi, Essa Kassemi, Homayun Sakhi and Mohammed Rahim Khushnawaz.
