How to connect with Ftp server using USB cable:

This can useful when you have USB cable and not network available.
1) On your phone go to Settings->Applications->Development and set option "USB debugging".
2) Connect your phone to your PC using USB cable.
3) Start adb server. On your PC run command "adb start-server".
adb is a program that you can find on android sdk. Usually you will find it on android-sdkplatform-toolsadb.
4) Forward needed ports from your PC to your phone. On your PC run command "adb forward tcp:2221 tcp:2221"
You will need to repeat this step for all ftp server and passive ports configured in your phone. It will be easier if you use a small range of passive ports.
With this, any connection in your pc to 127.0.0.1:2221 will be forwarded to your phone in port 2221.
5) Run Ftp server in your phone, open settings and in "Network interfaces" select "Loopback (127.0.0.1)" or "All"
6) Start ftp server.
7) In your PC connect your ftp client to ftp://127.0.0.1:2221 (port might be different, it depends on your Ftp Server configuration).

Connections in this mode need to be always started by PC so only passive mode is available when using USB connection.

Permissions needed:

INTERNET
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE

Network permission to enable server to open network communication with ftp clients.

WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

Enables ftp server write received files from ftp clients on sdcard.

WAKE_LOCK

Keeps phone wake only while server is running. If phone is not wake connections to ftp server can fail.

Super!! Some ftp servers don't work when your connect your computer to the server phone's hotspot. This one does that as well... Just need to turn mobile data off with network configuration set to "ALL"....

I rated 1* to get your attention. Newest version still can't rename file in external sdcard. I used GoodSync to sync file through your ftp app. I think that app want to rename file from /a/b.txt to /c.txt or something, different folder. This app works great on rooted device with writeable sdcard, but not on non-rooted devices.

Doesn't connect to SD card, even if you change the root mounting settings.

I hate it

T70%
by T####:

Works great even with long sequences of data transfers (6+ Gb of music onto my phone). Much better than MTP and doesn't require the wire. Only missing feature for me: some other ftp servers (that didn't do the job) allowed me to specify that only connections from my local wifi were acceptable or only a specific IP address could connect. Not a blocker, but it would give additional security.

Thank you for your great work, this app is amazing! The only thing i can complain is that when you set directory to USB port on a Shield TV data transfer rate is limited to 30MB/s :( I guess only USB 2.0 works with this app. I hope that USB 3.0 will be supported soon (finger crossed)!

S70%
by S####:

It works well...I found it a bit confusing the USB interface wasn't listed, but 'all' worked so I'll ignore that. I got nice speeds: ~15MB/s (vs ~5MB/s for sftp and ~1MB/s for adb).

Add auto run of service and add app autostart and it becomes perfect. Not everyone can wrap their heads around Tasker and autostart n stay

Works great with Windows Explorer, create a desktop shortcut, then change the Properties > Target: %windir%explorer.exe ftp://192.168.0.xx:2221... replace xx with the ip octave provided by the app.

Only niggle was I had to get to the ext sd card via root, the simple menu item for it got me nowhere.

Can't access SDcard even though permissions have been granted. App works fine for internal storage. Using Filezilla.

Comes preconfigured so no obscure setup instructions needed; since it's already set up it's obvious how it works. It's just an FTP server. Much better than a disk mounting app. File transfers use the full speed available on the network.

Choose Custom Directory and then select the root folder of your external SD card. For instance "/storage/5D72-1117".

Used this on my HTC M8 and M9 flawlessly. Have my HTC 10 in hand and I'm experiencing issues deleting files. Can upload files, create directories, etc. just cannot delete off ext SD. Phone is rooted. Assuming this is just a problem in 6.0 that will be addressed. Hopefully you guys can chime in on what the issue is, I absolutely love this app and use it daily. Just sucks I have to delete from the phone itself now!

D70%
by D####:

I like this app, as it allows writing to the external SD card. Two problems -- it's very slow, so not a good method for large transfers. More importantly, for some reason I cannot erase or overwrite existing files; while creation of new files is not a problem.

Used to work fine, now it crashes immediately when I try to open it. Still leaving 5stars because it was the best ftp app while it was woking
