I was convinced that the NPR-style narration would not lend itself well to horror, but it really works. The first season managed to balance the unsettling elements of the plot with the calming effect of the amazing voice acting and effective audio editing. The occasional Canadian/Pacific northwest pronunciations also make me giggle from time to time. 10/10 will listen as long as they keep making them.

If you are not listening to this podcast, what the hell are you doing with your life????? I question your choices. This idea is simple but brilliant, as is the way the creators blur the line between truth and fiction. Look up the medieval documents and myths that they mention. They exist. Try to find information on the voice actors. You won't. But if you try and find the main characters on social media--you will. Just start listening. Now.

I've never gotten into podcasts, but this one is getting good word of mouth, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's nothing short of interesting, entertaining, and creepy as f. I recommend it to all of my friends, I love listening to it at night before bed in complete darkness... I've ended up sleeping with the lights on after some episodes, though. Lol

I think the show is absolutely brilliant, well acted, well written, and great audio and effects. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that I can't for the life of me figure out how to mark episodes as read/listened for the ones I listened to on g-play.

Absolutely love this podcast and this app is the cherry on top. Haven't had any issues and the fact that you can download the episodes to not use up data is a life saver for long car rides. The only improvement would be if they made tanis available on here as well!

I love this story. I was into paranormal when I was a teen, and have recently found myself getting back into it. This podcast is great. I don't want to give too much away, but after the first episode I was hooked. I haven't finished season two yet, but hope it doesn't end there!

I look forward to listening to the black tapes as often as possible. I an new to podcasts and this was I believe is the first podcast I listened to. Since then I have found other podcast series. It has opened up my mind to so many new things I would not thought possible. Thank you

My son got me listening to these podcasts. First ones I had ever listened to at all. I love them. I am a truck driver and listen to them as I am driving and traffic is very light. Usually around 3 or 4 am. Needless to say, at that time of the morning, in the dark alone in the cab of my truck.... things can get a little creepy. Keep them coming.

I've been an active listener and I really enjoy the ongoing investigation. I love the creepiness and eerie feelings I get from the experiences of those involved. I can't wait for the next season. Keep up the great work everyone!!!

I think the whole atmosphere created is great! The music is appropriate and ominous. Jumps into dark topics and keeps you engaged. I actually find myself trying to google people on yhe show. Keep up the great work!!

Really good story, but the app needs improvement. On some episodes when I try to skip ahead 30 seconds it starts the episode over. This is very very annoying.

If you're looking for just the right amount of spooky to be able to sleep at night, then this podcast is for you. I listen to it during my daily commute. And the stories are believable... If you believe in possession and demons.

I love this podcast, it makes the workday go by so fast. The podcast has this way of keeping me interested and entertained as well as dragging me along on a entrancing rollercoaster ride. I can't recommend this app enough.

I love this show! I am so sorry it is ending! I have listened to both seasons several times! I am going to miss it so much! This was the first podcast I listened to, now I listen to several, but it is still my favorite.

K70%

The podcasts starts out pretty good some episodes are super lame with the "demons" that I think could have been done alot better. The part played by Alex just annoys me sometime

This story keeps me on this mortal coil. It has gone all Poe on my heart y'all. Frixkin bless.

Phenomenal podcast! This is actually my first one and it was amazing, however I do feel that trees a little room for improvement in the voice acting department. Don't get me wrong, they did a GREAT job, but something about me didn't allow me to believe the story was genuine. In other words, if the voice acting was a little more natural I would have initially believed more in the realism of the story if that makes sense.

A good listen. Not what I expected but enjoyable. Couldn't tell at first whether it was fact or fiction. App needs a bit of work but generally very good.

I started off using this podcast for a little background noise. But very quickly got hooked. It's so good

Love listening to this on slow days at work. Some other users are right, the early episodes get slow every once in a while, and you need to pay attention for future references since it jumps around a bit, but don't let it discourage you! Definitely worth the download

H70%
by H####:

Terribly slow in some parts and sometimes the payoff is so far off in the future that it requires you to remember several episodes back. For someone who will go a while without listening, this can be a bit of a bother. The story is nicely written though, so if you have the patience and stamina, it seems worth it.

Personally, I have trouble keeping up with podcasts. Which is a shame, because shows like The Black Tapes are wonderfully creepy and a delight to listen to. Having the app makes it much easier to keep up to date and creeped out.

This was the first podcast I ever really listened to, and I love it. It's creepy, and I'm invested in the story and the characters. After I got caught up in the story I had to check out other podcasts, and I've found some good ones, but this is still one of my favorites. The app is easy to use and convenient.

This is a great and entertaining show. I would have gone five stars...but I LOATHE THE ADS MID-SHOW. I breaks the mood the show is going for, essentially ruining the experience for the listener. Please at least try doing the ads all at the begining, the show will absolutely be more satisfying and spooky.

It is always refreshing to see people make things happen. The Black Tapes Podcast almost reminds you of 1940 serials, every week a new twist as the story unfolds. I admire this effort to bring good old fashioned story telling to the medium of podcasting. It is worth it to give it a listen.

This podcast and its brother, Tanis, make my Data Entry post far and away more fascinating. I've even noticed markedly fewer mistakes in my work! I suppose being intermittently terrified throughout the day forces one to pay careful attention to whatever task is at hand. Definitely not recommended for listening to at home, alone.

D70%
by D####:

Such an addictive podcast that I listened to it twice through. Then I was shocked to discover that it used 8.6 gigabytes of data, four times as much data as I used marathoning stranger things on Netflix. I highly recommend the Black Tapes podcast, but there's no way this is the most data efficient way to listen to it.

Starts slowly and builds tension If you aren't a fan of writers like H. P. Lovecraft you might not immediately latch on to this genre. A wonderful series and things are really moving along this season Love it.

I can't tell you how much I love that the podcast has its own app. After switching to an android phone after my iPhone last year, the podcasts I had were getting hard to manage and organize on the music app, and stitcher seemed bad in terms of downloads. (which I needed) This app is the perfect solution, and I hope Tanis gets one too! I'm already super addicted to both shows, and I'm very happy black tapes gets such a near flawless platform on which to play.

I binge listened to the first season of this podcast and loves every second of it. I've always loved anything that was paranormal and that's why I started listening to Black Tapes but I became absolutely invested in all the people as well. I would suggest this for absolutely anyone who loves anything weird.
