يقول الكاتب في أحداث الرواية “إن الثورات يدبّرها الدهاة وينفذها الشجعان ثم يكسبها الجبناء” وهذا كان حديث مسطول وكأن الكاتب يشير إلي القارئ بالتهديد والتحذير الشديد إياك أن تظن أن سهرة العوامة تلك سهرة مساطيل !! بل هنا يسهر الحالمون الباحثون عن الحقيقة الغائبة عن الواقع وحينما عجزوا اجتمعوا علي أن يبتعدوا عن عالم السياسة والحياة العبثية التي يطلق عليها مجازا حياة وبعضهم يجودها بالحياة الواقعية ارتؤا لانفسم السَحَر بلامبالاة فكما صور الكاتب أن السفينة تسير بلا حاجة إلينا رغم انه هو نفسه الكاتب وفي نفس الرواية يقول أن الخوف زال لان الخوف من الأمريكيين وبطش الإنجليز والبوليس والجيش والخوف من الظاهر والآراء الحرة والخوف مما نبطن للقادة وللرؤساء علمنا ألا نخاف ولكن سرعان ما يلفت انتباهنا إلي أن الثورة يكسبها من يكسبها الجبناء !! هي ليست ثرثرة وهم ليسوا مساطيل إنهم مجموعة ممن ازدرت بهم عبثية الحياة يكتشفون فجأة أن الخوف الحقيقي ليس من الموت إنما خوفهم الحقيقي من الحياة ويهربون ليحتل عالمهم الليلي صراع الضمير ويكأن الكاتب يريد أن يشير أننا حتى في ملاذنا وهروبنا من عبثية الحياة لم نسلم من الحياة

لم يبق لي وحتى لا أنسى ذكره سوى أن الرواية التي اعتمد فيها الكاتب علي السرد الدائم والذي اشتكى منه كثير من القراء وشعر بعضهم بالملل لصعوبة كثرة الشخصيات ومسمياتهم ولكن إحقاقا للحق وان كان هناك بعض الغموض ذلك لان هذه الرواية سياسية بحتة في المقام الأول والأخير وعلي الكاتب أن يكون أكثر ذكاء وألا يعرض نفسه وقلمه للمهالك هنا كانت تتجلي عبقرية نجيب محفوظ أراد ان ينتقد أحوال البلاد وما آلت إليه من ديكتاتورية ومن سلطة الصوت الواحد الذي لا يسمع ألاهُ فكيف ينتقد الكاتب العظيم الزعيم جمال عبد الناصر في أوج مرحلة عاشتها البلاد لا صوت يعلو فوق صوت الحاكم الأعلام كله رسمي وغير رسمي يخضع لسلطة الدولة الآراء التي ليست في اتجاه الدولة تؤد في المهد فاختار الكاتب وهنا عظمت قلمه وإبداعه أن يكتب نقدا لاذعا لحكم الراحل جمال عبد الناصر بالرمزية يشير ولا يوضح تاركا المجال للقارئ أن يغوص في أعماق ما بين السطور وما يقبع بين الكلمات ويستشفي بنفسه وجع الكاتب ثورة راحت أهدافها أدراج كتب التاريخ .
يبقى آخر شيء في رواية ثرثرة فوق النيل تلك الرواية المتجددة التي تصلح لكل زمن كان أن أترككم مع كلمات نجيب محفوظ نفسه عن الرواية وما الذي اغضب السلطة والنظام منها يقول نجيب محفوظ
