About Incident Response Tool
Launched in 2011, iKeepSafe’s Incident Response Tool (“IRT”) has helped schools across the country deal with digital incidents. Now, with the generous support of Samsung, iKeepSafe proudly offers a mobile-friendly adaptation of the IRT.
The increasing use of technology in the classroom brings with it many new challenges for schools. From sexting to cyberbullying; privacy concerns to ethical considerations; schools are dealing with a growing number of digital incidents.
The IRT is designed to increase school confidence and competence when handling a digital incident while minimizing the risks and impacts to students’ health and well-being.
The IRT provides schools with the tools and resources to holistically and effectively respond to all varieties of digital incidents, including:
• Sexting
• Cyberbullying
• Identity theft
• Privacy
• Plagiarism
• Harassment
• Self Harm
• Hacking
• Hate speech
• Copyright violations
The IRT has three main components:
(1) The IRT Flowchart: the Flowchart leads administrators through each step in the resolution of an incident and indicates when to involve the primary stakeholders (such as parents, legal counsel or law enforcement) and how to ensure responsible and effective follow up after an incident, including support, evaluation and audit;
(2) Customized Investigative Plans (“CIP”): The CIP is tailored to address the specific incident a school is facing and then guides school administrators through the investigation process with investigation forms and recommendations from law enforcement and public health experts; and
(3) Professional Development: The IRT provides in-depth Learning Modules and Quick Tip videos with essential information for ensuring the best resolution of digital incidents.
The Learning Modules were created with guidance by leading legal and law enforcement experts. Topics include
• How to prepare for a digital incident
• How to conduct a reasonable search of a cell phone
• How to craft a Responsible Use Policy for your school
The Quick Tip Videos are two-minute videos with primers on topics such as:
• Should teachers use Facebook
• Detecting cyber incidents
• Digital drama guidelines for teachers.
