Thank you for creating an app I will always be able to come back to when I want to explore some new Kanji. The design is a little old fashioned but it's still no problem to learn with. I like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone who's progressed past katakana and wants to read more Japanese. Currently though there is a bug in the quiz JLPT 3 Group 1 Sub Group 9 that causes the app to freeze on a white screen. Not a big problem but is worth a fix I think!

Each stage builds on the one before, and reinforces skills. It would be nice to have to option of romanji, but it's good kana practice, so I suppose I'll just have to knuckle down to mastering kana first. One problem - some of the review text is too small for me to read. Please support zooming in the next upgrade.

Used Kana on my Nexus 7 and it was fantastic, so I decided to buy Kanji to use on my brand new NVIDIA Shield (2015). But neither app finishes initializing. Whenever I start up either of them, the "Initializing application..." prompt comes up, disappears and then sends me to a blank page. I would love to get these working on my new tablet.

I used other apps to try and memorize kanji but failed. This app makes me feel like I am actually making progress. Totally worth the money.

If you exit the app, even for a second, it completely restarts, losing track of where you are. No real flash card function, so it's hard to really learn. The design is really old-styled and a bit ugly, but it doesn't interfere with learning what it offers.

Crashes if you go to your homescreen or a different app and then back to TenguGo Kanji again. This doesn't happen everytime though.

I was looking for a dictionary to supplement the kanji the Genki Japanese text and this is probably one of the easiest ones to use. I use this app all the time to learn new vocab that genki doesn't have when studying the kanji portion of the text. 5/5

Great app. Wonderful way of learning. Only trouble is that it blanks out from time to time and I have to re-install. Same for kana app from same author.

I have been looking around for both paid and unpaid Kanji learning apps/books/websites, and this is the best that I have found! どうもありがとうございます!

Very useful! Such a good app and great for both beginners and more advanced students. it's also relatively small so it's great if you don't have much storage space in your phone.

T70%
by T####:

Effective when it works, but some lessons crash Android. Also, questions with multiple correct answers only recognize one correct answer.

Been using this app for a few years now and it's always been a good study/reference app. With the exceptions of some bugs the app is great, I would love to see some improvements, but it's cool right now.

Its been a great help in learning kanji would be five star but I haven't used it enough yet to say so

This app is so great, first I got the Kana one for free and learned almost all of the Kana before buying this app. I do not regret it! Just with the first quiz on 10 Kanji I am able to remember the words it could mean, what word they are teaching me it for, and how to prenounce it in hiragana! It is amazing. It helps to also converse daily with Japanese friends, but the app helps so much with learning and memorizing! I reccommend it 100% おなまえ わ 水晶です! はじめまして! -Crystal G.

Y70%
by Y####:

Design is terrible, scrolling is laggy. I find it annoying that I know hiragana 100% all the time (for kunyomi readings). Now I must either trust my gut feeling when unsure or have a dictionary at hand. Neither is pleasant. Otherwise, it's a useful app before Duolingo releases Japanese, lol.

I have been struggling to find a good app to learn kanji and here it is :Tengugo Kanji! Tengugo Kanji is better than any apps I have downloaded which actually has a pretty high rating. This app explains every thing in detail. For example, about the kun-yomi and on-yomi. I like how they have tests, that you can redo again and again to test your ability. And that's not all! This app is the perfect one if you want to learn kanji, I totally recommend it. :)

This is pretty good for kanji learning! Definitely better than any kanji app I know. I wish I had this when I was struggling with kanji in my college days :)

If you already know all the hira/kana charts, this app is a must. Worth every cent of it, I'm loving and learning by myself but I still want to take class in the future, so that's why I want to at least know the basics. 5 stars.

by R####:

Genuinely very helpful, from having a good grasp of the kanas, I had very little knowledge of kanji, and this has explained them well, and so far is teaching the practice and recognition well too.

D70%
by D####:

Ugh. You can't test for yomi only, which means you're forced to keep encountering English. If you're above JLPT 5 don't bother. Oh, and it will ask include homonyms in reading questions (eg, you'll be asked whether the answer is ひ or ひ). Even worse, it contains errors. Don't bother.

This app is amazing! I'm planning a trip to Japan and already have a basic knowledge of Japanese, but only know 50 or so Kanji. It starts out by explaining what kanji are, and that you'll be guided through the meanings, pronunciation, and history behind 2000+ kanji within the app. It has very detailed recommendations and splits everything up nicely into different levels of lessons and quizzes, so you'll never be overwhelmed unless you choose to 5 cherry blossom trees out of 5! Definitely worth the price.

It is a perfect introduction to kanji characters. There's plenty practice material and helpful explanations, all well organized and easy to understand.

If you know a little, this app is good for advancing. Not much starter though.

The presentation is very bare bones, but the content is very good. Worth the price, for sure. Will definitely help those who are learning their basic kanji.

So far , awesome. Learning a new language is fun and easy, if you apply memory techniques and are motivated to do it. it's probably harder to learn Chopin's fantasie impromptu than japanese. I suggest you do both and thank me later.

As a relative beginner, I don't always understand kun-yomi vs. on-yumi, and wish this app explained more. But it's great for practice, with a fantastic interface.

I've been really wanting to learn Kanji so I bought a book for 30 dollars but the book was confusing and hard to use. This app was only a dollar and I learned 10 Kanji in just 10 minutes

C70%

Looks like a great way to start learning kanji and its pronunciation. They don't just throw a bunch of kanji at you and expect you to learn it. You go though, study, and then take quizzes meant to solidify your knowledge. 5/5

Glad I found this app as I was lost without it. Kana seemed so complicated and hard to remember but the way this app works makes it so much easier to do both at about any pace you want.

Learning Kanji is probably one of the most difficult steps while developing Japanese language skills. If you're ever in doubt and have a dollar to spare, do yourself a favor and buy this to make your studies much easier!

I70%

There are a few obvious mistakes, e.g. 最後 does not read さいしょう, and most of the subgroups 9 in the JLPT quizzes don't work. Looks like a bug. There are also a lot of cases where the meaning of the kanji isn't the same as that of the kun yomi word, so it would have been nice to have a test based on it too.
