(Old) Learn Chinese: Beginner for Android
Let's me read something at my level. Large text and converts to pin yin very easily. Thanks!
Audio way too fast. Ability to import own text would be great.
For study
I found it very useful.
The concept is good but in practice its not great. Many words appear that are not in the relevant HSK lists, although not much of an issue. My friend who is a Chinese linguists and professional translator suggested that the passages are not bad and represent the way Chinese speak, rather than can be found in a typical (inappropriate) direct English to Chinese translation as found in many teaching materials. Some stories have no point at all to them and actually are confusing hence you are left thinking "whats this point got to do with anything?" However the major drawback is the use of machine translations for the texts. The are almost meaning less and barely make any sense in English. This should be human translated by the authors The use of popup pinyin is useful but I am not sure is the voice is human or machine Over all, it is useful to try figure out for yourself, the Chinese texts, as if you know the HSK 2 / 3 words its will be easily surmountable. However trying to grasp the exact meaning rather than a general meaning it may be difficult due to lacking translations In summary For the same price as a fancy coffee, its well worth it, just limited
