The password can't be empty. Well, IRCNet servers in the homeland of IRC do not use passwords. Useless :(

G70%

Scratches the need for synced irc messages with push notifications. Similar to irccloud, but at less than $5 a month. Could use some additional options, particularly in notifications and additional highlight words.

N70%
by N####:

Can't even handle commands. What kind of irc client is this? By the way, it doesn't work with weechat as someone else mentioned, you DO have to use the official tapatalk bnc. I wouldn't mind switching but I just can't stand this android client.

T70%
by T####:

You need the server side component, but once that's set, this really brings your IRC experience on mobile to the level it should be on.

This app makes me so happy. It took some fiddling to get the nodejs backend going, but after that it has been great. Absolutely worth the $5 if you like to have a persistent irc session, and a killer app for irssi+screen users if you set up irssi's proxy support. I see two glaringly missing features, tough: 1) There appears to be no way to send /me actions! 2) There is apparently no way to change the notification sound that tapchat uses, nor to disable vibrate for notifications. Why?

L70%

Keep it up. The nicest irc client I've used on android thus far. Kudos for the irccloud integration too. One little feature I'd like to see is hiding join/part messages.

Tapchat is how IRC on a phone was meant to be.

The app is what was lacking on the Android Store, A push notification based IRC client. It is very promising, it works very well right now, and I think with some minor feature improvements it can reach a very high level of quality and usefulness.

T70%
by T####:

The IRC protocol itself is what mostly held me back from using it on my phone, and tapchat solves that problem. Future feature suggestions would be first and foremost the ability to fling through IRC channels, implemented as well as it has been for networks. Second would be standard slash commands, as well as baked in mode/actions when selecting a user (users?). So far though it is excellent and I already see it as money well spent!

If you're an IRC user and want push notifications, this is it. I run irssi-proxy on a server and have the tapchat server connect to the proxy via localhost. Boom, all my channels, all the time, no extra usernames or connections. Push notifications arrive almost instantaneously, even when device is asleep, due to C2DM. FYI the tapchat server currently only runs on Ubuntu and Debian (which took a bit of extra work to get going).

By far the best Android IRC client. Totally worth the money. This is basically like a mobile friendly irssi-screen combination. Stays connected on your server; doesn't waste your battery; looks beautiful

X70%

By far, the slickest IRC app on the Market. Developer is very responsive, and very polished for a new app. The node.js server is really easy to set up, and really is what makes this app great.

Absolutely fulfilled my needs for an always on irc connection. Looking forward to more updates and features! Particularly the stuff that's easily configurable on the server side like auto-join, logging, etc. Overall very pleased, nice clean UI and gets all the basics right.

The most amazing IRC service for convergence :-) ran into some very nasty problems after the last update but got great support on #tapchat Freenode. Thanks for this awesome piece of work!

U70%

This app needs to allow you greater control over notifications in the same way that almost EVERY OTHER app does. I should be able to toggle vibration, choose a specific sound, etc. The fact that there is a single toggle for notifications is frankly unacceptable for a paid app. Furthermore, the fact there is still no ability to send irc commands is somewhat disappointing for an IRC app. 3 stars as stands. Could be 5 if my comments were addressed.

O70%
by O####:

The push notifications were extremely smooth, and I liked the UX elsewhere, but... There was never any support for basic things like actions, and the latest update seems to have removed the ability to log in to my server at all -- it's a somewhat pretty invalid username or password prompt now, even after clearing all server data, restarting and creating a new username and password with utmost care and so on. Ah, well. So it goes.

U70%
by U####:

The app seems to be unmaintained and is slowly developing bit-rot. Basic things like buttons (e.g join channel) should work, but don't. I also have a hard time giving 4 star without the ability to send commands to server, but 3 star wouldn't be fair either because it has improved my battery life a ton. I would gladly pay $10 for a deluxe version if it were properly maintained.

But lacks features, development seems to have slowed down considerably and documentation on features is sparse (only through issues on github I found out there is a basic web interface to give an example).

U70%
by U####:

I hope that in the future he'll add features like nick completion. Other than that, this works great. I like the minimal aesthetic! Thanks for this. Love the server idea. It's something I thought of myself and then *boom*, here's this great implementation! Other than the the lack of some features that are standard in other clients, this is awesome (especially considering that this is a mobile app)!

U70%
by U####:

Lacking features, badly. Can use commands. No nickname completion, can't even set highlight words. I use it only for the push notifications and then use Andchat for chatting.

U70%
by U####:

Looks like it has a lot of potential but the developer hasn't been maintaining it. There hasn't been a commit made in over 7 months and he appears to have moved on to other projects.

The app only works over WIFI, I get an error when connecting over mobile network: "java.lang.illegalstateexception scheme 'http' not registered". Over wifi it works well, but I have been unable to test it on my regular IRC servers since it doesn't allow me to connect to servers with self-signed certificates.

U70%
by U####:

The app itself is pretty, although seems largely unfinished - lacking some of the functionality you would expect of an IRC client - and feels unpolished. However the real problems with the client lie with the node.js-based server which is very unstable and doesn't properly support SSL. Also, push notifications are iffy and don't always work. P.S. It would be nice if we could change the accent colour from green to something else.

U70%
by U####:

On wifi it works.. but mobil network i get scheme htt registrated. Fix was to remove proxy in the apn. Seems i dont get any notifications anymore. N7105 with 4.1.2. My nexus7 with 4.2 gets them.

U70%

Application does exactly what it is advertised to do. The developer was able to explain a couple of things for me on his IRC Channel. The interface is very clean and the application does not feel bloated at all. It is perfect! Bottom Line: There is more that could be implemented, but the application does everything listed in the description. Five Stars!

U70%
by U####:

I'd like to have more notification options. Instead of just notify on mention current nick, I'd like to be able to specify a list of strings to watch for.

In a lot of ways, this is what a mobile IRC client should be like. The push notifications are AWESOME. The price for this app however is a little steep considering the lack of features. Why is there no way to save connection information? I don't want this client running all the time, and I definitely don't want to have to enter login details every time I need to connect. I use an IRC bouncer (ZNC) and unfortunately it seems like the tapchat server stays connected to it even if my client is not connected to the tapchat server, which is a bummer. There are some useful features/modules for ZNC which take actions when all clients are disconnected, but with the tapchat server running, there is now always at least one client connected. If these two issues were resolved, I'd say my $5 was very well spent!

Quite expensive for Android ecosystem, should support commands, show op/voice stat etc. for such price. Development is quite slow :(
