I downloaded this & purchased the Victoria UK voice several years ago and it worked great back then. Upgraded to Samsung Galaxy S5 (Android 4.4.4) & reinstalled my apps, including this one. Unfortunately, data download on WiFi for the voice repeatedly failed, and when it did actually complete, the app just kept force-closing. Given the date of the last update, it seems the devs have no interest in keeping up with Android. :-( So, no choice but to uninstall, even though I paid money for it....

I love this app. I have found one issue though... When i reset or turn off and on my phone svox does not work unless i open the voice tts and make it speak. I dont mind... Lets face it is not like i reset every day

I have purchased this TTS engine and several of the voices. I have been most pleased with the quality and clarity of the voices. I use them not only on my android, but in several desktop computer applications, and the UK English male voice is a wonderful substitute for the built-in one that comes with "Evan" the personal assistant. I would be even happier if the SVOX engine integrated with more applications.

no update for almost 2 years drops this app in the abandonware bin, it does work, but system changes in the OS may not work well for new OS versions.. as we have already had several OS updates since the last time this app was updated.. I'd hold off on buying any voices for a while. Google's native voice output app has come a long way and sounds better when you download the expanded packs..

If you're on android 6.0.0 or greater this works but you have to change a default setting. Under "Language and Input" look for TTS options, then under Svox options unchecked "Use Optimized Engine". You might have to drill down in advanced settings. I had never tried this setting in Lollipop perhaps it workshop there too. I still believe this is the best TTS option for android. The ability to customize pronunciation set it up above all others. Just don't expect support, I believe this app is abandoned.

I understand the comments about cost now. 04/19/2014. I installed the app to try it to see if it will read kindle books for my Dad who is blind. After installation I installed several trial voices and EVERYONE of them said that the trial period has expired. Hmmm, they expired before I even installed them. Reminds me of Dell computer that did the same thing to me on a NEW computer purchase which they refused to warrant because they said the warranty expired a month before I purchased it. Cost is not the prob

Dear developers, in 99% of cases I'd like to use the pronunciation correction option to correct the accentuation of a word. I don't see a simple easy way to do so. Please let me know if there is such an option, or provide one. In that case I'll buy. Without it russian pronunciation is sometimes really annoying. Thanks in advance.

I love the Victoria voice and have been using it through the last 3 years of google maps navigation….but now it doesn't work with the latest update on the samasung s4 mini. PLEASE FIX! I really dislike the american voice default and use Victoria all the time! Please advise!

This app worked just fine with Kit Kat and versions of Android prior to Kit Kat but it appears that the app is no longer being supported by it's developers since there has not been any new development on it since 2012. Don't believe the Play Store if you are being told that this app is compatible with all of your devices. The app itself may run but none of the voices for the app will work if you are running Lollipop.

Broken on Android 6.x (Marshmallow). I just noticed it has NOT BEEN UPDATED IN FOUR YEARS! No wonder it is broken. Google should change policy of abandoned paid apps to free after 1.5 years abandoned or something. This is unacceptable. However, prior to Marshmallow release, worked great on all my devices. NO UPDATES IN FOUR YEARS THOUGH!!! So no improvements in engine, database, voice processing, etc. NOTHING!

The Victoria voice is the best synthetic voice available at the moment. I'm only giving 4 stars because SVOX is always in my recent apps list, cluttering it up, for no apparent reason. I'm guessing DRM but as a paying customer I find it irritating.

I loved Grace, and it worked until I changed from a SGS3 to a LG G5. SHe went silent and no amount of prodding seems to get the developer's attention. Called Nuance in MA and transferred to CA and talked rep that said we don't support that product anymore. So I guess that it'll be uninstalled now, and added to the abandoned software bin. Thanks Nuance.

I use Svox with Norwegian speech on my Samsung Note 2, latest android version. Svox creates bugs every minute. Very annoying. When the bug problems are removed, I will give Svox 5 stars, now it is almost useless!!

by X####:

BEWARE - DON'T PAY FOR VOICES This used to be an excellent app but there has been no sign of development since 2012. It no longer works with newer versions of Android. ADDED: The developer does not reply to emails.

X70%
by X####:

Still not quite there. I wish there were some options. One, for example, would be the ability to change some punctuation. A "-" is said as "hyphen" and this makes for difficult listening. It throws you off what is being listened to. If you could add an option where fir example a "-" (hyphen) is not spoken, but is a pause ot would help. After all, svox does not say "comma" when it comes to a ",".

After upgrading to ICS, the voices I purchased and successfully used have disappeared. I keep reloading them (luckily, I do not get charged again) but they keep disappearing after reboot. I emailed the developer - silence. I want this fixed or get my money back.

Voices still sound robotic/synthisized. Compared to the other voice apps this sounds terrible. Voices pitchs are off and sound scratchy, and when saying s they scream, very unpleasant

Used this for years, (the grace voice) but it won't install the voice data on my new phone (xperia xa)... I've checked the permissions and went hunting through the the file system to make sure it wasn't locked... I don't know what the problem is.

I have been constantly looking to get an English UK male voice and stumbled across this app. From what I have experienced and read, as of now nothing will work on updated Galaxy S4 in the US other then then stock crap voice. Seems only option I have is the crappy Google Now janky female for now so pointless to spend money on this?

X70%

Been over a year since any of their apps have been updated, their Web page is out of date also. Google needs to do something about these developers. STAY AWAY!!!

Says it works with PDF to Speech. I have the pro version and it does not work with it. I changed the speech engine to svox classic tts and get nothing. I'm running Android 4.3

But when i try to launch the voice app in order for it to download the necessary files it hungs on... Checking app license. Please wait... I even installed a trial voice, but i have the same issue. Unfortunately I had to leave a 1 star as it doesn't work with Google Maps, the exact reason I purchased it. I have even factory reset my phone and using Android 5.0.1. Nothing works that I've tried so far.. please fix this issue with maps.

I use this app to read Nook books which utilizes the "em dash" (long dash) and svox pronounces it "hyphen". If the book author users them often it can drive me crazy. Is there a way to edit the "em dash"? My keyboard supports it but it doesn't show up in the edit dictionary.

E70%
by E####:

I like it, BUT you all REALLY need to fix the problem with the voice reader reading dashes in the text. If real live people don't read dashes in the text than neither should voice reader. If you can than I would give it 5 stars.

Ivona is free for now. Ivona has much higher quality voices. The United States voices are a joke. In fact a couple of them are joke voices. Useless. They really need to get their business model correct and that out very very high-quality voices. The people working on them right now settle for robot sounding voices. You can tell they are/were young putting out things like dark Lord and Ghost. They should've spent that time putting out higher-quality voices for different as real sounding people.

When I first purchased this app, it worked extremely well, and I was pleased with it. However, the developers do not seem to have kept up with the evolution of Android. I have not been able to select SVOX as my TTS engine since Ice Cream Sandwich, nor with Jelly Bean, and now not with KitKat. The last apparent update according to their information here was September, 2012. The tech world moves fast, and it would be nice if the creators of this app showed a willingness to keep up. I'm giving it three stars because it DID work once upon a time, but no longer. UPDATE 2015: I would like to have reported that this problem was finally solved, but alas, I cannot. Here we are at Android 5.1.1, and I am still stuck with the stock Google TTS voice, and no matter how many times I select SVOX as my TTS engine, it will not change over. I have yet to hear any feedback from SVOX on this issue. I would so much rather be listening to their gorgeous synthesized voices... I miss Victoria.

Which means no good in the new os such as KitKat and lollipop. I'm using English Victoria, and her voice sounds machine synthesized half of time. Now the Google text to speech has the English speaking voice too, it's generic, I'll have to admit, but it's much more advance than this app.

I paid for both UK English voices. When I updated Car Home Ultra, suddenly they won't work - even though I've chosen SVox in my settings for text to speech. Not going to pay again, so please advise.

C70%

I bought a few voices but couldn't use because of some issues. Although I sent special message within the application nobody replied. The problem is that when you go to settings language inputs -text to speech options and press settings button of svox I get the same message :"unfortunately setting has stopped ". If you would not interested in the problems sent to you what you sold the voices. By the way to understand the voices you buy you have to be a good native speaker. If all fixed only,u'll have >4

Using a SG5 Active now. I've bin using this for at least 2 years, on 3 different phones, and never had any problems, love it, much smoother then google voice. I'm leaving my rating at 2 stars till I can get an explanation. Hoping you can fix this.
