Identify election ads as they air and learn about who is behind them immediately on your mobile device.
Ad Hawk was produced by the nonpartisan nonprofit Sunlight Foundation. The app helps Americans know who spends money to influence their votes by providing valuable contextual information about the TV and radio ads they see during the 2012 elections.
We ask for permission to access your location because we collect anonymous location information with one-mile accuracy to improve our database of where political ads are airing and to identify slight variations across media markets. This is on by default, and can easily be disabled at any time in the app's settings. Your contributions help improve the database for everyone. Thanks!

Droid RAZR-Tried several times with a couple of ads at different volumes and not one was right. Also the list of possible matches were ads I had never even seen before. Don't waste your time.

Edit: Thanks for the widget! Revising to 5 stars now that it's there! Original review: Great idea... SoundHound ∞ has a widget that lets you immediately start identifying a song, without having to jump into the app and press another button. Something like that would be really helpful here. When you're trying to identify something as short as an ad, having to grab your phone, unlock, open the app, etc. all take valuable seconds. Anything that could be done to cut a second or two of time off may be the difference between getting enough audio to identify and not.

Correctly identified all the ads I tried on the first try. Great to be able to reference up-to-date cash-on-hand and money raised/spent values. Now make one for state legislators!
