ESV Bible

I love the app, but could you PLEASE bring back the search & menu buttons? I don't understand why they were taken away in the first place. I can highlight & favorite verses & add notes to them, but I can't go back & find any of that, which makes those features kind of pointless. The Apple version of this app is PERFECT! You NEED TO UPDATE the Android version to match it. **Thank you for fixing it!!

I have been using this free app for almost three years on 3 different smartphones. It stands as a marvelously elegant and simple design. I use it mostly to read and follow texts used by a speaker live or recorded or in books or pamphlets. The user can highlight texts and look at references to other related passages. Personal notes can be added and favorite verses can be marked. Crossway has never put an advertisement or offer to upgrade this to a premium app for any price. I heartily recommend this app.

This is the first Bible that was actually meant for me. Not a " you can borrow it," or coming across it second hand. It was for Daniel. Awesome. I guess the only problem I have is that there isn't any space for notes. Keep everything the same, just add an inch or two at the border.

Good for the most BASIC bible app however there is too much missing differences between the IOS and Android versions. Firstly it's not as clean and aesthetic. Secondly, i can't download and use the Study bible. Thirdly: There are way too many missing features, such as night reading, ect. Very very disappointed, please try to update and upgrade this application. Thank you!

Simple, but quick and easy. Took off one star because on Nexus 5X on Marshmallow it crashes when I open it. Reopening it always works, so it's just a minor annoyance. I emailed Crossway about it. Update after a couple years: still crashes most of the time when I open it on Android N and O.

I have had this app for at least 2 years. It is nice and easy to use. However, it is mind boggling to me that, after all this time, the app still crashes about 95% of the time when I start it up. Second try is fine, but this is a little ridiculous. I have tried it on 3 different Android phones with the same result!

Good for a basic Bible reading app. Disappointing the difference in the Android and iOS version. Missing glaring features and not near as clean aesthetically. *Night reading mode *Readers Mode *Daily Reading plans *Lectionary *Ability to highlight large chunks of text (seriously?!) Switching back to YouVersion.

Far better on iOS devices. When selecting passages on iOS you can select multiple verses for highlighting, sharing and note making. The Android version is garbage it only selects 1 verse at a time, chopping up your notes and making sharing useless. The iOS version also includes chapter and verse when you share. The Android sharing just looks like random text. For an OS that is known to be more open and flexible the execution of this app on Android is garbage.

Disappointed that the android version is so behind from the iOS version. The app lags on my S8 and is not as intuitive or crisp as the iPhone 6S. I've been using this app for 7 years, and the android version still looks the same.

This app keeps kicking me out. When I first go into the app it says there was a problem but seconds later when I go into it again, it works just fine. It is frustrating and takes too much time to do. Will be uninstalling

Really pleased the menu (search etc) is back. I really missed that functionality when I changed my phone last year. It crashes occasionally when opening after not using it for a few hours, but that's a minor problem and doesn't warrant dropping to 4 out of 5. Hence 5 out 5.

Still the best and most straight forward Bible App but the iOS version is MILES ahead of this android version. No Continuous scrolling, no audio, no reading plans, no selecting multiple verses, iOS app even "looks" better, etc. For how much I loved the iPhone app this was pretty disappointing.

This app needs a major refresh. Your logo is out of date and looks sad in the new material design world. It's hard to read and I have a larger phone screen and icons then normal. Secondly the way of navigating within the app has changed dramatically and your app has not changed with the times. Scrolling through to find the next chapter button is crazy. Left and Right swipe makes more sense. The browse button is also awkward. Voice related enhancements should be a priority as well. I should be able to say Matthew Chapter 19 verse 9 with the app open and whala it pulls up the wanted verse. The problem is the ESV translation is the best translation available for those working with biblical text on phones. You have a good basic framework but phones are more capable and so the needs of your users has grown.

I am on android 7.1.1 and the app crashes almost every time I open it. It will then work when I open it again. Kind of annoying.

Great simple Bible app. Only thing is I wish it had night reading mode. I would give it 5 stars if they added this feature in a future update

This is a very good app and I really enjoy the layout. Maybe I haven't searched the app enough, but it would be great if the was a way to save all the content on my phone so I'm able touseother devices and have all my work still avaliable. Maybe have an account or something. The app is really good though!

Find some other renderer for Android, your current one scrolls jerky. Use some native Android hardware accelerated function. Don't be lazy :)

The reason why I love it is because, it is very easy to memorize a single verse or a whole chapter. I just pick up my phone and Zap! ,I start memorizing . But I still think a real ESV Bible would be better, so that you can communicate with God and be more focused, because on phone you may be a little bit distracted .But I still love the application Good Job Crossway I know it is God that helped you create this marvellous application ????????

It does not have an audiobook setting for Android but it has it for iPhone. The app crashes a lot as well. Otherwise it is simple and easy to use.

Simple, reliable, and fast. Love this app for reading and highlighting. The only thing missing is a dark theme/mode for trading at night. Thanks for such a great resource!

Disappointing lack of improvement or basic maintenance. Regularly crashes when opened for first time. Fast navigation, good translation. Would be acceptable if new and first release.

I love the lack of distracting ads in this Bible app and how easy it is to navigate. I do really wish that there was an option like on the iPhone to have the daily reading plans, like the daily office lectionary.

I like this app and used it especially with my ESV Global Bible. And used the cross references that other apps don't provide. However I added bookmarks, highlights and notes that the site is says is stored locally for Android. I bought a new phone and this is one of the only apps which doesn't let me migrate fully. I am wondering if my only option is to type everything again or copy paste each note again... That would be painful. Can you please at least tell us the storage file name and location on Android and we can save it to PC and maybe try restoring it on the new phone? Please respond. God bless your work. It would be nice to be able to copy and paste from the app on android. When doing lessons, that would be handy. Would also be jicw to be able to chamge the background to black like the snapshot image. Otherwise, very good.

Easy to use. The translation is great. The font size can be adjusted. No complications and it is devoid of annoying pop ups.

This App needs to be udated for Android; is old and is missing features from iOS version. Otherwise is a great app

If you can please add a black background view. Would be good for nighttime viewing or even in daytime. From 2012: Working well so far. Good job developers and translators. Installs needing only 1 permission: internet access. Works offline. Stable so far on verse changes. Blessed access to Words of life.

God's word, what's not to love! Simple to use cross reference. Use off line is great to always have your bible with you. EPH 2:8-9

This app is absolute garbage on android. Far better on iOS devices. They need to release a fix and updates.

All I say is All Praises to YAHUAH El Shaddai for this app. So far this is the best ESV Bible app out there,usually I stick to the KJV, but the ESV is a good translation as well. I wish Crossway would make a KJV app like this one. I love the cross references on here. Makes bible study fun Halleluyah!

My favorite bible app, only if it could be on multi-version. Still, the space for notes and verse cross referencing make it a very useful note book. The biggest challenge is when you change phones and need to transfer notes and bookmarks, this is the biggest and maybe only reservation I have on this app

It's easy to navigate and easy to read, but I would like if it was able to switch to dark field text so it doesn't blind me at me nighttime devotions.

It was great until I updated from Kit Kat. In Marshmallow, there's no way to open the menu for settings, search, etc. Desperately needs an update.

Not simple to undestand because the bible is NOT easy to read and comprehend but it is very clear and readable. Great app. I reccomand it to all bible readers beginners. ⛧⛤⛤⛤⛧

Glad to see a new update this month, Still wish some of the features from the iPhone version would come to Android

Very easy to access and use. Great translation with the added feature of offline use. Bonus...App is also able to be moved to SD card and great search capabilities. Small footprint and Many notes. There are others that do more, but for quick, offline and searchable, this is tops!!

Loves that it let's you read more about a verse while still on that chapter, it takes to other related verses. It's great for study. Let's you copy and paste and let's you highlight your favorite verses. And no ads pop up!!!Best Bible app I've used.

Not even latest edition text? Website is better. Please add black background support, and readers mode.

Everytime I use it it crashes on the first try. However, it does open on second try.
