About Homer Player

Homer Player is an audiobook player for the elderly. Its simple user interface makes it easy to operate for seniors and people with poor vision (or both).

Features:
- simplicity: just a list of audiobooks and a "start" button,
- flip-to-stop: there's no need to press any buttons to pause playback, just put the device face down on a table,
- low-vision friendly interface: book titles are read aloud and high contrast, large UI elements are used,
- adjust speed: slow down playback for those hard of hearing.

Single application mode (kiosk):
With this mode enabled the user cannot exit the application so they don't need to know how to use a tablet.
Perfect for building a dedicated audiobook player for your grandparents.

This is a great app that works as described. I can confirm that it works on a Sony C1904 smartphone running Android 4.3. SD card: I created a folder called AudioBooks in the root folder of the the SD card. Some older reviews said you couldn't save to SD card, but the software has been updated to allow reading files from an SD card, even on Android 4.3. Settings: The app ingeniously allows you to access the settings menu by tapping five times on the main screen. This allows you to set things while reducing the chance of the senior from accidentally accessing the settings. Audio files: If your audiobook is made up of multiple mp3 files, the app treats it as one long files, which is perfect. It seamlessly plays there in order. The time counter on the app shows the combined playing time. Kiosk mode: In order to prevent the senior from accidentally going to the home screen of the phone or tablet, you can turn on Kiosk mode. There are two flavors of Kiosk Mode. With "Full" you can totally block the senior from existing the app. With "Simple" only the navigation bar disappears. Unfortunately, on Android 4.3 you only get the "Simple" option. Conclusion: Great app. Love it.

Ideal for my partially sighted Father. Has all the functions we need (I.e as few as possible) and very straightforward to use. Thank you Marcin.

This is exactly what I was looking for! My girlfriend's grandmother has recently lost most of her sight and this is perfect. My only complaint is that you have to upload the books directly to the tablet and it won't read from the SD card. Other than that great job!!!

Very Promising! For the past week I have been searching for an audio book reader with a simple interface, suited for the visually impaired. Strangely enough, those readers are NOT designed for what I believed to be the main target group. Even the best one had too many buttons and was not suitable for my mother-in-law. This Homer Player, even in its initial stage and with only a basic start/stop button, is already functional enough so that I am convinced that my relative will be able to handle it. And the Kiosk mode would just be awesome. Kudos, kind regards.

I have an elderly mother, and I wanted to give her the opportunity to listen to audio books. There's nothing much out there that matched her needs. So I bought her an Asus ZenPad C7.0 and added HomerPlayer to it. I needed only a little support from Marcin to set the tablet to kiosk mode. So far it works a treat. No evidence of Malware that someone else suggested.

I stumbled upon this while browsing another website to make a one button audio player using a raspberry pi for my grandmother. This is so much easier to setup and use. This is perfect for my grandmother who has difficulty using even the simplest devices to listen to her media. Can you add an option for continuous play so it doesn't stop when it plays the last file in the folder and the ability to swipe back and forth between files without having to press stop first. Great job! this is going to make a lot of old people very happy.
