그는 영화를 보기 보단, 영화를 보는 그녀를 보고 있었던 것이다. 세계 희곡 수업의 마지막 날, 그들은 체홉의 알려지지 않은 희곡으로 만든 러시아 영화를 한 편 보았다. 마치 어느 인상주의 화가의 투명한 화폭에서처럼, 부신 빛과 희미한 빛이 흰 스크린을 적셔 대는 동안, 그는 계속해서 그녀가 앉은 쪽을 흘끔거리고 있었다.
그날엔, 그녀의 얼굴 가득히, 화면에서 반사된 빛들이 마치 어떤 몽상처럼 묻어났다. 그는 그녀 이마의 둥근 선과 각지지 않고 늘씬한 콧날의 생김새, 가늘고 진한 눈썹과 동공이 열린 채로 길게 벌어져 있는 눈자위를 흘끔거렸다.
