This app should NOT be advertised as "Free" It is useless unless you PAY for "premium content" Don't bother! Uninstalling it.

Very helpful

The map was helpful so we didn't miss anyplace. But after the first few sites, it required payment to get any significant information about a site. And the audio never played on my Android phone. I will check out the $2.99 app and hope it isn't constantly asking for money.

by Q####:

Great app with lots of interesting information, but only until you've clicked on 4-5 points of interest, then the Premium Content request blurs out the pages, making the app completely useless. UPDATE: Developer replied 12/10/16 to say this isn't the case, which may be very true now, but wasn't on 7/20/15 when I left the initial review. I would rely on more recent reviews about its performance when deciding whether or not to download it.

Crashes way too often. But when it does work, it has basically the same info as the free pamphlet, and also gives good info on hours of operation, etc., as well as other sights along the trail that aren't part of the official Freedom Trail sites.

Well.. If only a demo of the first and some stops is free it should not be advertised as free

It gives you great info for a certain amount of time then makes you buy premium to read anymore

o General info is blocked after viewing 7 or 8 sites. This would be a great app if that didn't happen. Likely would've purchased premium version but glitches seem to forbode bad functionality.

Has great potential but I got information on ONE sight, then couldn't pay for or access any further information. A sincerely terrible business model

I would like to purchase the premium content but I am unable to do so. The layout is easy to read and has good information though.

Paid for it. None of the audio would play.

Wouldn't recommend, audio didnt always work and we wasted too much time trying to figure it out.

This tour is interesting and well worth taking. The app starts off well with an excellent map on on Google. However when you try to click through for the individual description s for each place it whirs away and doesn't open up. My guess is that when too many people are trying to access the server it doesn't have enough bandwidth. I'm glad I didn't pay for the premium content. Then it would have been annoying. As a free app it was okay.

Every time you touch the screen, in the stops descriptions, the app will open the option to buy premium content. You close it, then it opens again. It's simply not possible to use the app. I would buy the premium content, but I'm not sure if the problem will stop even if I buy it. Edit: After I bought the premium content, the problem stopped. I'm changing my evaluation to 3 stars, and after the visit to the Freedom Trail I'll come back again to tell how it was the experience. Anyway, I think it could be clearer what content is premium and what content is free. I found it very anoying to use the app without buying the premium content.

Great app. Uses google maps to show the route with aim the official does, plus other interesting spots on the way. Each stop is clickable to see the details. Liked the free version so much we downloaded the enhanced/additional content for $4. Only issue was sometimes not being able to find where we were. Well worth the download and purchase.

Useless on S4, zoom button on top of share button so keeps sharing trying to move around. The locations arent overlaid properly and dont move correctly when the map is moved making it impossible to use. Much easier to walk trail and follow instructions in the street.

This app was easy to use and showed you where you were on the freedom trail in case you got lost. Loved the unofficial stops along the way and the information about the stops. This was all on the free versmion too. Excellent app!

Only used free part of app.Loved having this on my phone as we walked around. Map was useful and tidbits of info was all we needed to jog memory.

Bought the physical book and then downloaded the free companion app. Helped plan our visit, gave us the tips we needed, and the background history was excellent (my son is a History Major) – just what we wanted to make our visit a success. The companion app is the perfect complement to what was in the book – we used them side by side, and it was great having both. There is a premium version ($2.99) of the free app that includes a ton more sites (those beyond downtown), a lot of detailed history that is hyperlinked to the sites, and other information like budget tips – some of this was also in the book, but there is new stuff here too. What is a killer is that the app automatically downloads (based on the language of the phone) pre-translated versions of the app. We were having Spanish speaking guests, and they loved it! It supports 8 languages - Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese. My guess is Google Translate, because it is not perfect, but it is extremely helpful. All in all, a great product and very innovative. Strongly recommended.

Great app to use while walking the trail. Lots of information using google maps as a base. Not only the points of interest on the trail but others as well close to the trail.

Looks like this embeds a Google Map in an app wrapper, but it's a phenomenal map and the app exposes all the cool features - streetmode, directions, satellite view, etc. The map's content provides a ton. It's not as pretty as some, but far more useful. A bargain at free.
