Star Tribune News for Android
I wrote a review then somehow this erased it. So in summary star tribune is propaganda bs they don't bother making the system and our accounts functional because then we could call them on this garbage.
Still crashes but works better than it did at one time. My biggest complaint is that photos won't load most of the time.
Turning into a scam, haven't used app for months, click on story and it says I have viewed all my articles. Just a way to get money
Print too small! why not column width and rotate screen. This is an app.
None of the videos ever load...
I continue to get message "Sorry, we could not locate your account" when I try to access from my Android phone. Using the same login and password works just fine on my laptop. I've complained to Star Tribune about paying for a service I can't use because it won't let me log in using my preferred method, my phone. So far, no solution and no digital access from my phone. Very disappointing.
When this app works correctly it's great. Unfortunately it crashes so frequently that I hate using it. The crashing problem has been around for a long time and they don't seem interested in fixing it.
If your app is freezing, turn on airplane mode! I finally figured out that my app freezes whenever I use it with a bad wireless connection. The solution is to simply turn off your data antenna by switching to airplane mode. I'm very excited to have discovered this fix. As an avid reader of the Star Tribune, the app's freezing drives me insane. Giving three stars because of this bug...which is generous, considering this should have been fixed a loooooooong time ago. I expect better from the Strib. Seriously. Fix this. Please.
Overall, it is a good app. The only complaint I have is that I have to reload it every so often...but it is no big deal. I'm on android!
Covers African Americans being shot by police but not about white Americans getting shot. More white Americans are killed by police then African Americans. Never here about the white American getting shot.
Articles constantly redirect to other articles and crash.
I have to keep.uninstalling and installing the app, once I run out if pages.
...crashes too often.
Can't read stories without logging in. Won't let me log on. Can't locate me.
Dumb
I pay a monthly subscription fee for online access. When I click on a story I'd like to read it often sucks me into viewing an advertisement with the "continue to star tribune" link underneath the ad. I wouldn't mind the ad if not for the fact that the app sometimes freezes or greatly slows when viewing an ad supported story. I understand the need for ads. Put them in the banner or somewhere that doesn't hurt the functionality of the app.
Had lots of trouble w initial signup. Then worked great for over a year. Just updated to android lollipop on samsung s4. App loads, but no articles appear. Blank screen. When i go back to Touchwiz it works. Doesnt work w lollipop. Hope they fix it. Really liked it when it worked.
The text snaps to the top of the story every few seconds. I'm spending more time finding where I was last than time reading.
Constantly fighting to make the app refresh on Android. Shows me yesterday's headlines but when I select any one of them I get a story from today- the same story no matter what I select! Also has trouble loading photos. Works slightly better on Ipad but still has lots of bugs.
Crashes frequently, takes forever to load, doesn't automatically update when you open the app. I often give up and read something else instead. I don't like the Star Tribune website, either.
Used to work but hasn't for quite a while. Like the other user I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling to even work once. What's going on?!? UPDATE 3.19.15: STILL DOESN'T WORK UPDATE 6.21.15: started working much better with a recent update. Still seems a bit slow, but at least it is not shutting down all the time. Will post again if this seems to be the trend.
App keeps refreshing. It's unusable.
Won't let me log in sho i can read more than a couple articles.
Where's the national/ international news and commentary that's not slanted left? Oh, that's right; I forgot the Star Tribune is still stuck in the 1960s.
This app is helpful and saves money on paper on trees. I am happy to get the Star and Tribune on my cell phone.
This used to be my favorite app. Crashed occasionally, but would force stop it and it would start right up again. Since end of May 2015 it runs once and only way to get it back is to uninstall and reinstall. Completely unusable at this point. Running on HTC One M8 and Android 5.0.2.
I echo the other comments. I have to repeatedly kill or uninstall the app. It will not refresh the content and it hangs up with a blank screen. Very poor quality compared to other newspaper apps.
Thought I'd give it another try after a few months, but the second time I opened it, it froze, just like before. I'll uninstall and maybe try again sometime in the distant future.
Just a black screen. Never did get it to do anything.
Needs updates for performance fixes but better than the mobile website. The add complaint is kinda silly as ads are part of any newspaper or magazine you subscribe to and they're way less frequent than what you see in print. In all, update the performance issues and this works.
Worked fine in jelly Bean
Every time I tried to run this app I had to restart my phone...
opens up to a blank screen on my Moto x 2014 with lollipop.
Used to work but hasn't for quite a while. Like the other user I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling to even work once. What's going on?!? UPDATE 3.19.15: STILL DOESN'T WORK
Paper leans to the left. Looking for facts not opinion of the news except in the opinion section. SACK more often than not skewers Republicans.
First of all, if you're complaining about having tiny insignificant banner ads and paying a subscription, its not any different than the paper version. NEWSPAPERS NEED MONEY TO SURVIVE. It's not bad in the slightest. And everythibg else functions geat! No crashing. Great intuitive navigation.
I have an eEdition subscription and password but the app won't accept it. It forces me out to the Web page to a tiny link that allows me access. It doesn't hold that info so I have to redo it every time. Work out the kinks Strib.
The articles rurn in different sections and the poor ones run for days. The good ones are yanked within hours . Be consistent
I like it. It has been pretty good. For Minnesota/local news, the Star Tribune without question has the best content and coverage.

Very frustrating that comments are not visible. In today's media, commentary becomes as important to the conversation as the story itself. Every time I read a controversial (informative) article, I have to separately go to the website. Other sources are easier in terms of seeing everything...
