If your current loft staircase has a stairwell, you're in luck. Convert the stairwell into extra living space. You can either transform it into a chair (ideal for stairwells used as room dividers, giving the occupants a pleasing view of the apartment) or you can convert the stairwell into a tiny office. Note that extensions sometimes built at the top of staircases are often wasted space. Fill them by adding a small table topped with a plant or a vase full of flowers. If wall space is available, hang artwork or a mirror above the table. A mirror can create the illusion of a window by reflecting any natural light that comes into the area.
