Barcode Scanner+, from Sean Owen of ZXing Team, uses the camera on your device to read barcodes of all kinds. After scanning barcodes you find on products, for example, you can discover prices and reviews for it. Or, when scanning newer two-dimensional barcodes, like QR Codes, you can access contact information, bookmarks, web site links and more inside.
Barcode Scanner+ is an enhanced version of the popular, free Barcode Scanner application, which is a product of the ZXing open-source barcode scanning library from Google. Barcode Scanner+ is based on the same code, and has been developed by one of the two primary authors of the original Barcode Scanner, Sean Owen.
Barcode Scanner+ includes all of Barcode Scanner's functionality, and is intended as a drop-in replacement for Barcode Scanner. It adds several enhancements:
Better barcode scanning
- New image processing algorithm for detection of 1D barcode formats, including UPC and EAN product codes
- Uses both cores of dual-core processors
- Optionally, scan for Aztec and PDF417 barcodes (note: PDF417 support is 'alpha' quality)
- Rewritten to take advantage of Java 6, Android 2.2+ APIs, and latest Android SDK features
Refined user interface
- Now scan in tall "portrait" orientation, in addition to "landscape" orientation
- More intuitive pattern-based scanning guide
- Streamlined and improved user interface elements
- Android 4 and tablet device support
- Expanded Help screens
New features
- Decode a barcode from an image file
- Option to scan light-on-dark barcodes
- Activate device's LED light to scan in low light
- Basic support for scanning NFC tags

If you name your app "Barcode Scanner" I expect it to work in any kind of barcode, I mean even the fancy kinds like the one UPS uses, or Datamatrix. But this app doesn't scan these! So until the developer is honest and says in the description what types it can scan or the name is changed then I will keep 1 star only as the name is misleading.

Works well for all barcodes I use :) Great job!Anyways,I have one suggestion:It will be a great con to implement this app also as some kind of an input method for Android (similar as a keyboard) so I can scan barcodes directly to custom web apps for example. The plain text or app share methods are good,but in such situation it is an unnecessary extra step when you consider you have always to share to clipboard for example,then switch to browser and in best case longhold and paste data (because some specific web apps support only Ctrl+V combination).

I've used this for years and it's always worked really well. Well priced and It's reliable and allows a great bulk scaning mode. Only thing missing is a "Macro mode" which would lock the focus to either a specified user-set distance or a camera macro mode.

With this app, the camera can't adapt to low light. Means that you basically get a black screen if you're indoors and not under a light bulb. Modifying compatibility options does not help. NO OTHER app has this problem, including the original ZXing scanner, which works perfectly in same conditions. (LG G3)

This app scans barcodes on curved surfaces when all the other apps I could find failed. If one app works in a common situation that confounds every other app, the choice becomes simple.

This app rarely shows any useful information on the products I scan. It seems pointless to use. I have better luck typing in the product name manually in a search to see price and info than scanning a barcode. Truly. I'm upset I wasted some of my cash in purchasing this.

On my S5 after scanning a URL and going to the site, coming back always crashes the camera. Always. Scans well, though. 4 stars.

Good app. Added features and optimizations are great, though just the portrait mode alone is a big plus. That's always been an annoyance with ZXing Barcode Scanner. No ads, no spyware, no online junk, works in airplane mode. It is a paid app but at a buck it's cheaper than a soda.
