PilotOnline for Android
Can't read comments
Great look, but as others have noted you have to set the notifications every time. You can't share articles, and you have to look for news that you have received notifications on. Way too buggy. Update did not fix the above issues. And now you select an article and when it opens, it isn't the article you chose. Time to hire someone else to fix this app or revert to version before big update.
Pilot fixed something that wasn't broken. Has become too cumbersome to open and tired of the biggest news stories being how Sammy who is in the 9th grade has stated his intentions to go to Va Tech. But there's good in everything. I'm now reading other news apps and found there's a big world outside Hampton Roads.
Still have to set push notifications and when you click on a story the headline is cut off.
Still not fixed
Very slow and cumbersome. Also, cannot turn off push notifications.
The old app worked good; this one requires the set up of notifications each time it is opened.
Can't turn off notifications and they won't respond to my email. DELETED!
Garbage, broke, dysfunctional.
I enjoy the app, but it needs a few things. First, when I flip to a story, especially when it's down the line in the article column, the app roles right back to the top of the listed stories, which necessitates that I have to re scroll through to get to my original place. Second, I often get breaking news updates, but when I click the link, they're not on the app yet. These issues aside, I enjoy the coverage.
Nice to catch up on the news wherever I am. One drawback. When I click on an alert the app opens and the story is almost never there.
Good app but could use improvement especially where obits are concerned. Thx!
Informative
Good app
If I wanted fake news from the Amazon Gazette, I would install the WaPo app. This filler seems to be a pilot app exclusive as I haven't seen it in the web version.
Leave the sports for the sports page. I got the app for news, not that crap.
I loved the old app. This one is too cumbersome. Too much trouble to set notifications each time i open it. Deleted it.
News displayed is ten days old and will not update. Useless.
Like other users, my app stopped updating ePilot. Two emails received no response, so I called. Turns out the app has been updated, and in order to obtain the update we must uninstall our existing app and then install the new one. No problem, but due to the lack of notification and response I'm giving only a 3 rating.
Epilot tab doesn't show issues after 11/16. Emailed "appsupport" three times without result or even acknowledgement.
The ePilot tab does not work anymore. Have uninstalled and reinstalled. Click on today's paper and nothing happens. Tech support sent a link to latest app on pilot homepage. First of all there's no place to download app from pilot website, second of all I have the latest app from the Google app store. Useless and terrible tech support.
It just comes up as web page not available or moved. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled an still get the same message.
Hey it's Hampton Roads nothing works around here. So why should this app?
Leave the sports for the sports page. I got the app for news, not that crap.
Another update I guess? E-Pilot hasn't worked since 11/16/15.
Obits will not load on tablets. Unable to read because it says that the site is under construction. This has been over a month but I am able to read on my mobile. Using the app for both devices.
Just got app today so I'll use it a week and come back and let how I like it.
What happened to the online newspaper for readers who subscribe to the Virginia Pilot? This app misses the point of wanting to get access to the newspaper. Where Where are my comics? . . . . Revised after current update. EPilot is back and able to read the newspaper online.
The very latest iteration of this app as of April 15, 2015 now works much like the old Spreed versions did for accessing the ePilot online version of the V-P newspaper. The gotcha is that the version number has not been incremented since the initial v5.3.13.0 (April 1st) despite this being at least the third update in this new series from Verve. So IF you (like me) allowed an auto update or updated to this version and it did not initally work to read the ePilot then you will need to manually uninstall and reinstall this same app to get the latest version that does indeed work. Until the developers start incrementing version numbers in the Play Store I also suspect that auto updates will continue to not happen. Thanks to folks in the V-P IT support dept for working this problem with the Verve developers. Versioning however still needs to be fixed!
No breaking news. No updates throughout the day. The Entertainment tab has 3 week old stories that don't load. The update was not ready for a roll out. This is the first time I've ever commented on an app.
Update does not work app represents paper you think that they would get it right
I pay for a subscription to the e-pilot, I can no longer read it on my phone. What gives?
I've had this app for a while, and it was great keeping up with local news on the go, but now a paid subscription is required to fetch online articles. I imagine they started charging for access to make up for lost revenue from paper subscriptions, but other news agencies find ways to keep from charging folks. I'll be removing this one for now.
UPDATE: The Daily Press has an app and all content is free. Why pay for news when I can get it free from local TV news apps. App deleted.
I have to keep logging in and it still won't show anything but an error message.
Id rather have ads than pay for this app and probably still get ads
Deleting app. Using daily press app.
I have to pay to read news i can read for free elsewhere? bye bye pilot
Let's you read a few articles then cuts you off unless you subscribe.

I hate that even though i have a paid subscription to their print version, i have to log in constantly on this app. I log in, and then have to log in again in the middle of reading an article or watching a video. I am close to cancelling my subscription to The Virginian Pilot.
