About Canoeing
Canoeing is a sport or recreational activity that involves paddling a canoe with a single-bladed paddle. In some parts of Europe canoeing canoeing and canoeing, with a canoe being called an open canoe.
An ancient mode of transportation, modern canoe-kayak was created at the end of the 19th century. In 1924, the canoe-kayak associations of Austria, Germany, Denmark and Sweden founded the International Representation for Kanusport, the precursor of the International Canoe Federation. Canoeing became part of the Summer Olympics in 1936.
The main form of competitive sport was sprint in canoe. Others include polo canoeing, whitewater canoeing, marathon canoeing, ICF marathon canoeing, and playboating.
National canoe associations include the American, Canadian, British, Scottish and Welsh.
A recreational form of canoe is canoe-camping.
Types of canoes include:
Recreational boats: These are the most widely used canoes because of their light weight and durability. They are usually made of aluminum or plastic. They can be found at the most sporting goods store, and are available for hire at public lakes and rivers.
Intermediate or advanced canoes: These are improved versions of standard canoes, offering more comfort and increased speed. They are designed for canoe enthusiasts, who often use them for fishing or bird watching.
Whitewater canoes: These are designed for whitewater and river canoeing. They offer better safety, allowing the user to attach flotation bags that prevent the boat from sinking if it returns or takes water accidentally. They have higher sides, which help to prevent water from entering the boat. It is easier to transform these canoes strongly because of their flat bottom.

A recreational form of canoeing is canoe camping. Others include a wide range of casual canoeing on lakes, rivers, ponds and streams.
