SpiderOakONE for Android
I can't download an entire folder even though the desktop website allows me to do so. Some of my folders contain over 100 files; downloading one file at a time is not practical when I need to view documents on my phone while I'm away from my PC. Also, as other reviewers have noted, there is no option to upload files in this app. However, dear reader, I do recommend the desktop application.; my experience therewith in Windows is more than satisfactory.
No search, no home button, unintuitive, slow. Can't find anything. The excellence of the Spideroak service underlines how truly dire the app is. Really guys, it's appalling, completely unusable. Stop f*cking about with semaphore and make the core functionality useful. Please! It's been years and we are PAYING three figures for your service.
I love the service, I subscribe. This Android app is a streaming pile of dog poo. Most of the time it shows folders as empty, sometimes it shows something in them, when it shows empty it's difficult to back out of the empty to retry. Seriously, many of us want to get at our data on our Androids and can't. There are other services out there do I need to move?
Hangs on larger files. I can download 5kb word docs like a boss....worthless. Not even considering other deficiencies since you can't even get file DL right.
One way sync only still? Come on devs it's been years. Two way sync required. Fix the timeouts too.
In addition to what others have said, I find it incredibly difficult to check my archive when the file tree suddenly goes blank. The only way I found to remedy this is to go back and reopen file folders until the tree actually stays up.
I think the only thing that is good from this app is because snowden himself recommended it. Aside from that, nothing...buggy, bad UI, poor features, etc..
It's OK, but I still get 404 Network Timeout error
Great company and service but this is a useless app for Android users. Please overhaul this app.
Just some constructive criticism in terms of feedback. The concept of Spider Oak One and all other Spider Oak products are excellent - no problems there. However, this app needs some urgent attention especially in the area of being able to upload from an Android device. Not being able to upload from my phone and/or tablet is a deal breaker for me and the main reason for not upgrading to a paid subscription. I'd be inclined to think that I speak for many other Spider Oak subscribers too, where not being to upload from a mobile device reflects poorly on Spider Oak becoming their main cloud service overall. Definitely something to seriously consider in the next run of upgrades for this app.
Spideroak is simple the best cloud service. It's secure, fast and reliable. This app however lacks some major features. No automated uploading of folders/pictures seems crazy. This has become a standard feature of cloud storage. I get that spideroak focus on security and privacy but I find myself stiff using other services because I don't want to forget to manually upload images.
Allows access to uploaded files, but doesn't allow uploads. I'm ok with increased battery drain while encrypting and decrypting - just game me the option between local/server decryption and warn the user about uploading!
Still not great, had this installed for 3 years now and it's still filled with bugs. Eg. I can't download any files which defeats the purpose of having this app. Don't hold your breath for bug fixes.
If I try to download a file larger than 100 MB or so it times out 9 out of 10. Both on wifi and fast LTE. There are also no upload functions.
A bit clunky, but does essentially what's needed. A couple of features are missing: 1. Cannot upload/modify files from mobile. 2. No obvious way to locate a favorited file outside of the app. EG, I need access to my KeePass database. 3. Automatic folder syncing (IE, always sync my phone photos).
I absolutely love the desktop version, however, the Mobile App seems to be lacking many necessary features. I can't seem to upload files to my hive at all. Along with that, I have no idea where my files are downloading to. Using file manager, I can't find a download location at all. Nothing in preferences/settings either. I shouldn't have to hunt for a download location at all. All this app is useful for is verifying what is already in the hive. Uninstalling until some major improvements are made.
Whats the point of using this SpiderOakOne program if I can't even access my files on the road??? It's the only reason I purchased it! It deserves LESS than one star.
And still am to an extent, but ...too closed source, US based and no 2FA mean wavering faith. Really good hive feature, reliable backups and great linux support but have nearly finished migrating all DR to a European solution
Was 4 stars on Android 6. Just got Android 7 and I can't open any files. Odd behavior. Please fix.
Allow me to upload files. Add things like auto upload. Allow my phone to be a proper device wit it's own key pair. Like this the app is of very limited usefulness :(
Very limited functionality. No background or foreground sync, only file download. SpiderOak works great on desktops but mobile client can drive users off the platform.
Dosent add functionality over a web login. Would love to be able to synch and backup content on my android. Love spideroak, hope for a new app soon.
I love SpiderOak and have been a paid customer for years now. However the Android app is in need of an upgrade to make it fit for modern smartphones. There is no excuse for a modern phone not having the ability to upload - the processors in most modern phones are very powerful and more than up to the job of encrypting before upload.
Not useful. Can not sync files, set folders. There is no reason to install it. Disappointing app.
Please add secure automatic file synching from the phone; change the logo cause its not beautiful; make the app and sync quick; keep zero knowledge policy
There is exactly one (1) thing I wanted this app to do: sync the files in my SpiderOak Hive to my smartphone. Which it turns out it can't do.
App hangs at "downloading" when I try to open a file, rendering the app essentially useless.
Cannot upload and back up my phone. Why? This is not good will be looking for another service.
First of all, this app doesn't have their zero-knowledge feature. You'd think this is the worst problem but even if you do log in, the app doesn't offer any synchronization or upload feature, meaning you can only access your storage. This app is technically gives you only what the web client does so there's really no point to it.
Not really sure what to say... Please build us a new app that rivals Dropbox
Desktop application works fine but as others have noted on this and other spider oak apps I constantly get 401 errors and the app just sits there. Worthless. No response from support also.
No update for over a year, still using SO on my desktop but having to use annoyingly complex ways to effect secure file transfer from my mobile. Upload please! Down to one star now, the app seems to have been abandoned apart from the paint job and new name. Still love the desktop app, such a shame to have to keep running other cloud services to be able to exchange files on mobile
You can download files to your mobile device, but there doesn't appear to be a way to upload or change anything. This is a deal-breaker for me. I had hoped this would replace Dropbox and/or Google Drive.
Very limited functionality. No background or foreground sync, only file download. SpiderOak works great on desktops but mobile client can drive users off the platform.
Awesome company and zero knowledge policy, but mobile app is in serious need of work. 1) add mobile upload - preferably sync in background 2) allow download to run in the background 3) configure default download location 4) be able to download entire folders
No upload? No way to backup stuff from mobile? In 2016? Really? Get your act together, this is taking way too long :( You've been promising mobile enhancements for years, but I see next to zero improvements! Can you share a roadmap to fix this please? Uninstalling for now.
Happens often that it would not automatically refresh the content of the hive. And unfortunately there is no manual refresh button. Shows sometimes "Network error (500)" even though the network is fine.
Constantly getting a 402 "temporary server failure" error when logging in on mobile.
One way sync only still? Come on devs it's been years. Two way sync required.

Same as everyone else: No uploading from app, no 2-FA options, have had multiple issues with downloads hanging and/or the app freezing. Sigh... without any direct communication as to why these features are not available, my subscription dollars are looking for greener pastures.
