About Glowfly

Convenient, extensible popup alerts for new SMS/MMS messages. Would you like to extend the functionality of Glowfly beyond text messages? Be sure to check out our growing selection of plugins and themes! Currently third party plugins are limited by time, resources and of course third party developer cooperation. If there is a third party app you would like to see, please feel free to contact us and let us know.

In order to get Glowfly to work with Google Voice, you will need to set Google Voice text messages to be sent and received within the SMS app. This option is found within the Google Voice mobile app.

**NOTE**
- You will need to disable the system sms notifications in order to not receive multiple alerts. Android 4.4 (KitKat) does not allow apps such as Glowfly to mark messages as read.
- May not work well with all Android 5+ roms.
- Task killer and certain sms apps have been known to conflict with standard operation of this app. Contact us for any help needed if this issue applies.

"An ICS-themed SMS/MMS popup app - sign me up! So far I haven't seen anything even remotely as good-looking, even in the most popular SMS apps out there - they all seem cheesy and all over the place. Well done, Spiderfly Studios!" ~ Android Police

Thank you for your support and all the nice reviews! Reviewing the app helps us out a lot by giving us valuable feedback that lends to future development.

We have listened and always will listen to you. We are working hard to add the features you have requested and to improve the app in all aspects. If you are experiencing any errors with the app, find a possible bug or have questions on a feature, please email us or visit our Facebook/Google+ pages so we can assist you rather than simply leaving a low rating and negative comment. This is the only way we can help resolve any issues you may be experiencing. We cannot respond directly to comments in the Play Store. Thank you!

**TIP** We have now given Glowfly access to other apps. One great use of this is already built into Android. Simply go to your widgets/shortcuts and set a new direct message for a contact. When you click on that shortcut you can choose Glowfly. Doing so will bring up the quick reply window where you can send a quick message.

This doesn't work good with KitKat. I'm using Google hangouts as my default SMS app, but it keep opening my ASOP messaging app when I click on view message. I guess it's the KitKat limitation.

D70%
by D####:

Perfect app, does exactly what it says in a slick fashion and caters to all my texting needs! Replying without unlocking the phone may not be secure but it's so convenient! At 99 cents it was a steal!

D70%

Now there is no contact for the devs, and neither contact specific notifications, nor the Holo colors are working. Will update review as soon as these get solved. Glowfly has been my absolute favorite messaging app, because having the ability to color code my contacts is indispensable. Galaxy S5; it doesn't look like I'm the only person having an issue. Please come back, guys.

F70%
by F####:

I've had this app on my old Samsung phone and it worked great. I put it on the phone I have now and the themes aren't working.? All the colors become grey. For example dark halo yellow will come out black with a grey bar on the top rather than yellow. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both theme apps as well as this one and still the same result. Any advice.?

Coming from Chomp SMS, which is a very nice app but can't view mms with popup. This app is so much lighter and give me everything I like. The only thing this app can't do is mark the message read after you dismiss it which I think it's a kit Kat issue. Please find a way to over come this issue for root users. .

by J####:

I really like this app, it works awesome. Recently, after updating to KitKat on my galaxy s3, however, replying to the messages or dismissing them doesn't mark them as read, so my messaging app says that I have a ton of unread messages until I go into the app and open them. It's also an issue with glowfly in the notification area, where it has "New Messages" and it doesn't mark them as read when I dismiss them or reply.

Just works. And if something seems wrong just contact the Dev and he's on it. Best pop-up messaging app available. Almost completely replaces stock messaging app for me. I barely go into stock I do everything from the pop up. You can even initiate a text (not just respond) from contact widgets or short cuts! This is my my go-to app on every phone I own from now on.

D70%
by D####:

I've tried them ALL. Using this because Handcent wouldn't send half my texts. Tried all the other pop up apps, this one shows mms pictures in popup! Woohoo! This works great! Love the bigger pop up contacts photo, but you can't insert picture to your reply yet (hope the add that feature! ).I also love that it shows over my lock screen very much. Hope I can attach pics soon. :-)

I purchased this app last night and it worked all night. Suddenly today it stoppedssending notifications or when they do come its and hour or two after the text? Anyone have similar issues? Developer immediately contacted me within a minute and helped me resolve Fabulous app and coming from an iphone I love this more that iphone notifications

Used to be a fantastic app, doing what described best. For over 8 months now has been constantly crashing, force-closing and being generally unstable. Submitted a few bug reports to the dev and emailed offering assistance in replicating when errors occur at the beginning of 2014 - no reply and seemingly no fix. Would be a 5* app again should the bugs be attended to.

I wasn't too sure if this app was what I was looking for. After having this app for a proper day, I can easily say that this app was definitely what I was missing. It just works. The pop-up messages are clean. The amount of customization is insane. This app is definitely worth the money! Why are you still reading? You should be buying this app!

D70%
by D####:

It was great before with previous phones. They did do an update that got it functioning for the most part with the N5. Now the N6 is coming out using art cache and this wasn't fully resolved for KitKat. I tried to communicate with them over half a year ago, no response or update. It doesn't dismiss properly, in my notification bar it will say 42 messages or whatever # while I've checked all my messages. Click it in notification bar and it always announces it crashed instead of opening or clearing.

I have tried all the pop up notification apps and this one by far is the best! I love the many options and customizations the app provides. The only issue I have is I'm not able to create and save 'custom pop ups' for different contacts. Still a great app and a must for any android user but please fix my issue! Thanks!

D70%
by D####:

In reply to the following comment left by the developer, please see the SMS Pop Up application. They seem to have solved for the Kit Kat issue. They are able to allow one to select a default SMS application. I feel justified in down-rating your application because another free application currently performs this function. As soon as you add the functionality, I will increase the rating. "This is a KitKat specific issue that all such apps as Glowfly are experiencing. We are working on a solution, but down rating the app won't magically make it work."

B70%
by B####:

I'm loving this app. Much better than previous popup apps I've tried. One question: is there a way to mark an sms as read after using quick reply? On my S2 it only marks them as read if you dismiss them.

D70%
by D####:

I know it's not directly the dev's fault, but not being able to clear the Samsung SMS notification icon without a reboot means I can't use it anymore. I did 't have this problem on the Note 2 with the 4.1.2 rom, but I do have it with the new 4.3 rom. I hope the dev can find a way around this.

F70%
by F####:

I liked this, until it started mixing up names on my texts. Would say a different person sent the text than the actual person, way too many times!!! Uninstalled *Edit... using stock sms, using Notify Lite now- never have this problem with Notify.

D70%
by D####:

@A Google User - Please contact us prior to leaving such a low rating. Handcent is the issue there, not Glowfly. That app prevents other apps from showing popups for SMS. You will need to look for the priority settings in Handcent in order to get it working.

I emailed the developer at 8:30pm and received an immediate response and solution. It doesn't get any better than that. The app itself is the perfect solution to what I was looking for - an app that displays pop ups of my unread text messages with options to reply, dismiss, delete from my Galaxy s3 lock screen.

Please Update to work with SMS built into Hangouts. Opens Stock Messaging App Instead of Hangouts. When clicking the new message notification from glowfly in the notification bar it opens the stock app instead the hangouts app. Or clicking the reply button on the popup it opens stockmessaging app instead of hangouts

Love the nice clean look to it. How you can personalize very popup to a certain someone in your contact. Love this app! Edit: Reported the minor bugs months ago that never got fixed along with some ideas both never gotten any response. The app hasn't be updated since Dec 2012 seeing how its the same version from your change log. I'm fearing the developers abandoned this project. Would really like a refund seeing how I paid for an app that no longer gets the job done well. I advise you to download Ninja sms

Bugs everywhere. Popup freezes when I pick up the phone horizontally and get unread text notifications even after answering the text and deleting it. Tried to contact developers but all the contact information is out of date.

I love this app. Only thing is I can't set it as default in my settings cause it does not appear in my menu, it only works on incoming messages. Basically I cannot send quick messages. I am running 4.4.2, wonder if that's the issue thank

D70%
by D####:

So I don't know if I'm just not seeing it or what but I was wondering if there is a way that on the widget that you can get rid of the leading zero on the time. Say its 1 o'clock right now. There is a zero in front of the 1. Just wanting to get rid of that zero. Please and thank you. Super awesome app though!

D70%
by D####:

I seem to have an issue. Replying to sms text messages from pop-up does not mark then as read. (4.4.2.) But other than that, this is a wonderful app, at a very reasonable price. Thank you for your hard work!

You need an updated theme.very old looking. Its small in size, cool themes, does exactly what it says, pops up and unlocks the phone if needed. My stock pops up but doesn't unlock the phone. This app will even show the MMS picture on the popup. No other app can do that yet! Just wish it had a transparency picker or theme or Great App!

I kept uninstalling because of issue I would have with it. The devs don't bother with it anymore. I bought this two years ago, pretty much, and almost nothing has changed. No new themes either.

After a long wait for a reply which I never got, I quit this app. Couple lil qwirks that needed worked on but it must not've been important enuff for a customer. Keep the dollar. Use it for sum schooling to make a better app. All in all, this app is not good enuff for me n my demands. Handcent still rules in messaging app category.

Of course we know that any app that uses quotes from The Princess Bride in its screenshots will be a winner. It's beautiful and elegant, and not just for a beginner. Anybody want a peanut?

Z70%

A once great app that no longer functions to it's abilities. It's in desperate need of an update to increase its functionality on the newest versions of android. If that happens it will be a 5 star app again. Edit: I understand Google broke that functionality, but the much older app SMS Popup will remove the text messages from the notification tray, where Glowfly not only leaves them but sometimes bring back dead ones.

Since my Samsung Galaxy S3 updated to lollipop I'm having the same problem that a lot of people are having. The difference is I don't blame the developer who can't do anything regarding limitations set by Google. This is an absolutely fantastic application and continue to use it because it's the best I've found. Love that pop up works over my lock screen, quick reply is convenient. It sucks that the application won't mark my sms as read but once again blame google. Thank you love this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

Seems like a decent app, but also appears to be abandoned. Can't recommend it on that basis. There also seems to be a bug where by if the popup is dismissed the message remains unread and a persistent notification stays at the top of the screen. All of the plugins which are promised in the description are no longer available, so you can't be notified about battery level, etc. Would have been nice if development was kept up on the app, maybe add support for hangouts or other apps too. Seems unlikely.

Beautiful design with users in mind, loads of features, detailed personal customization, incredible feedback from the developer, and supporting a good cause with your purchase, what more could you possibly ask for? Spiderfly studios GETS Android users and they know how to make a great app that is only going to improve. Are you using an alternative SMS app to get bug ridden and ugly popup notifications? Do yourself a favor and stop. Use Glowfly and have the interface coupled with the features you wish you had all along. If getting information through SMS/MMS is important to you in any way, you owe it to yourself to give this app a shot. You won't be going back.

I really love this app. I've tried many others but this is the only one that actually works and it's worth buying. It marks messages as read, it has the quick reply option, and it's even customizable (although we could use the option to make our own themes, I won't complain - it's almost perfect!) I'd also like to make a suggestion, which I'm not sure is possible on Android: back in my iOS days I used to have a messaging app that when I long pressed a button (I could choose which) it opened a new message window, and in the recipients field already came as options recently/frequently contacted numbers. I'd love if Glowfly had a similar thing. I think it's so practical since I'm always sending texts. But anyways guys, just keep up with the good stuff. Glowfly is an excellent app and I'm recommending it to my friends. :)

Not only is this app a flawless execution of what it sets out to do; but, the money from the app goes to a good cause. This makes it a much easier purchase. Also the customer service is better then any other app I've ever paid for. I was having some user error related issues and in less than twelve hours they emailed me back with a solution. This app its just wonderful and the team that developed it is equally as wonderful. Would definitely recommend and would have no problem purchasing from in the future.

I really enjoy this app; it works much better than Handcent (IMO), which I had used for a couple of years. The only reason it's a star short of perfect is a recurring issue with the stock msg app. When I hit DISMISS on the pop up, it marks msg as read and gets rid of the Glowfly notification on the status bar. But when I hit REPLY, the GLOWFLY NOTIFICATION stays on the status bar. I've also noticed that it stays there when I reply to a message thread that someone else started, but SEEMS to go away when --I-- start the thread. I should point out this happens with either the stock msg app or with another app (Contacts+). I'm using a Moto X with Updated KitKat. I've read the other feedback about "Cleaning out the database," and I've done that and restarted the phone, but this still happens. It's slightly annoying, but not enough to warrant uninstalling the app. I enjoy the app and will continue to use it (like it better than MotoX notifications). Just would like to see the reply issue resolved when it can be.

I love this app so much because it always me to use my reliable stock messaging app but still have a pop up that looks good. BUT I do have a problem that annoys me! Whenever I get a pop up notification, i reply like i should but then when it closes, i get the message on my status bar and the little notification is still up on the bar. I might have a setting wrong but if not, please please fix. I really love this app, great work on it!

Glowfly is amazing. Not only does it work well, but it's also easy to configure & to understand. I love its light-weight, plug-in based architecture, especially running Gingerbread on my older Optimus V with its limited memory & processor speed. Being able to choose a larger font for the SMS/MMS pop-up window is also a great benefit on a smaller screen, and its cool appearance is a plus. Might be nice to have a "Save Settings" feature.
