About FieldScout TruFirm
The FieldScout TruFirm Android app allows users to record turf and bunker sand firmness measurements from their FieldScout TruFirm meter and analyze the data over nine distinct regions for each given sample area. Users can save and compare information for multiple courses, measurement sessions, course holes, and surface types.
The app works with the FieldScout TruFirm Turf Firmness meter with Bluetooth (sold separately by Spectrum Technologies). The TruFirm meter must have the Bluetooth feature to be able to use the TruFirm app. TruFirm meters are available at http://www.specmeters.com/trufirm
Based on technology developed by the United States Golf Association (USGA), the FieldScout TruFirm offers a quick, easy, and affordable method to measure the firmness of turf and bunker sands. Data measurements from the device allow golf course superintendents and sports turf managers the ability to take appropriate actions to reach the desired firmness of golf course greens, fairways, and bunkers, as well as other playing surfaces to ensure firm, fast, and consistent conditions for exceptional playability.
The TruFirm app is simple to use. Once paired, TruFirm meter measurements are instantly communicated via Bluetooth to the app. By selecting one of the nine regions comprising a given surface (Back Left, Back Center, Back Right, Middle Left, Middle Center, Middle Right, Front Left, Front Center, and Front Right), representative measurements can be taken to map out the surface being sampled. The app can average readings in a specific region, or an individual measurement can be taken. Users are able to configure color schemes with different user-defined range thresholds for easy pictorial representation of the surface. Advanced features offer the ability to graph the measurements taken on specific holes and/or surface types. Data is stored as an SQLite file and can be downloaded to the user’s computer for further analysis.
