เสียงนกตีนเทียน

นกตีนเทียน (Black-winged Stilt) น่าจะเป็นนกชนิดแรกๆที่นักดูนกมือใหม่จะจำได้ขึ้นใจจากการดูนกชายเลนภาคสนาม เมื่อพบว่าไม่น่ามีนกชนิดไหนในเมืองไทยที่มีปากเรียวยาวและมีขายาวเท่ากับนกชนิดนี้อีกแล้ว

ด้วยความที่มีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่เมื่อเทียบกับนกอื่นๆในกลุ่มนกชายเลน มีลำตัวสีขาว ปีกสีดำและขาสีชมพูอมแดงอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ในช่วงฤดูหนาวจะมีกระหม่อมและใบหน้ามีสีเทาเข้ม แต่ในฤดูผสมพันธุ์นกตัวผู้มักมีหัวสีขาวโพลน ตัวเมียมีหลังสีอ่อนกว่าตัวผู้เล็กน้อย นกที่ยังโตไม่เต็มวัยมีกระหม่อมและท้ายทอยเป็นสีเทา หลังเป็นสีเทาเข้มและมีขอบขนสีขาวจางๆ ขาเป็นสีเนื้อ
