L’applicazione mobile “SOS Angioma” è un servizio gratuito incentrato specificamente sugli aspetti biomedici, sanitari e socio-assistenziali che riguardano le Malformazioni Cavernose Cerebrali (CCM), dette anche angiomi cavernosi o cavernomi: lesioni vascolari caratterizzate da agglomerati di capillari sanguigni abnormemente dilatati e fragili che si possono trovare nel cervello, nel midollo spinale e nella retina. Nonostante sia ancora poco conosciuta persino in ambito medico, si tratta di una malattia genetica che interessa approssimativamente lo 0,2% della popolazione generale (circa uno ogni 500-600 individui), senza distinzione di sesso e di età, e si manifesta clinicamente nel 20-30% dei casi attraverso vari sintomi, quali mal di testa ricorrenti, attacchi epilettici, deficit neurologici e, nei casi più gravi, emorragie cerebrali. La malattia appare quindi ad oggi diagnosticata solo in minima parte, a causa di una sintomatologia che spesso porta a diagnosi sbagliate.

In particolare, “SOS Angioma” complementa ed estende i servizi già efficacemente offerti dai portali del network nazionale di ricerca multidisciplinare e integrata CCM Italia e dell’Associazione Italiana Angiomi Cavernosi (AIAC), già di per sé complementari, che hanno creato una piattaforma di condivisione e d’interazione per una comunità italiana di pazienti, medici e ricercatori incentrata sulla malattia CCM. Questa piattaforma congiunta ha consentito da una parte l’instaurarsi di una produttiva cooperazione tra ricercatori di base e clinici impegnati nella definizione dei meccanismi patogenetici della malattia CCM e di nuove strategie terapeutiche sicure ed efficaci, sopperendo allo stesso tempo alla mancanza di un’assistenza territoriale coordinata in modo uniforme, e dall’altra di ampliare significativamente la divulgazione delle conoscenze della malattia e far fronte al problema dell’isolamento in cui spesso si ritrovano le persone affette e i loro familiari.

Attraverso evoluti sistemi di geolocalizzazione, l’applicazione “SOS Angioma”, disponibile per smartphone e per tablet, consente di localizzare reparti ospedalieri e centri clinici specializzati per la diagnosi (clinica, neuroradiologica e genetica) e il trattamento medico-chirurgico della malattia CCM, nonché i centri di ricerca clinica e di base interessati a questa specifica problematica biomedica, con le possibilità aggiuntive di contattare telefonicamente i servizi di centralino e prenotazione di visite ed esami o direttamente i reparti e gli specialisti d’interesse; ricercare centri di fisioterapia e riabilitazione e servizi socio-assistenziali; reperire rapidamente informazioni su come raggiungere il centro d’interesse (aereo, treno, auto, tram/bus), come orientarsi in ospedale per trovare specifici reparti, e sugli orari delle visite.

D’altra parte, sarà possibile visualizzare feedback lasciati da altri utenti e lasciare i propri direttamente dall’applicazione, scambiando esperienze e informazioni e aiutando così anche altre persone a trovare la migliore soluzione per le loro necessità.
