About Aathichoodi
12th century literature named Aathichoodi (ஆத்திசூடி) written by Avvaiyar- a poem to help teach our kids the language and morals along. It is like "A for Apple, B for Ball..." but then is poetic, entertaining and packs wisdom. The Our App consists all the 109 lines with their English translations. I will just look to highly some of the key lines.
There are many topics that are covered and one of the most impressive ones are in learning.
எண், எழுத்து இகழேல் - Never insult the power of numbers [Maths] and letters [literature]
ஓதுவது ஒழியேல் - Never stop learning [in life]
இளமையில் கல் - Focus your youth on learning
கேள்வி முயல் - Hone your questioning skills.
கைவினை கரவேல் - Learn to do build stuff.
There are some bizarre ones like "Don't play with snakes", some daily stuff - "Use cotton beds for sleeping", some political proverbs - "Never support land-grabbing", as well as more deeper tips - "Never converse when fatigued".
Although many of the advice is obvious to adults, the pithiness of the poems, the beauty of the analogies and the overall lyrical character makes the work not just great to teach kids, but also to get better as adults.
It teaches good habits, discipline and good works for all.
