GrooVe Forwarder for Android
Vague menus- I can't tell what the settings are because it resets them every time I go into a menu and gives no confirmation of any update. Also when I lose wifi it doesn't change the setting to non-wifi so then calls aren't forwarded to my cell. Fix those two and I'll give it 5 stars.
If you want this for fallback without cellular connection this is very simple. This is how to set it up so that Google Voice works on WiFi only, in the event that you cannot get a cell signal. Use the automatic settings feature. It should say that your Google Voice number is forwarding calls to your GrooveIP number. This is how it should be configured. Answer the questions in this order 1. YES 2. Groove IP 3. CELLULAR PROVIDER 4. CELLULAR PROVIDER 5. CELLULAR PROVIDER. On prepaid you'll see "GoPhone", or MetroPCS, etc. So it will be 1. YES 2. Groove IP 3. GoPhone 4. GoPhone 5. GoPhone. Turn off your cellular data to test it, then turn it back on if it works. You'll also need to set up (within the Groove IP app), for the app to only be signed in on WiFi.
No longer works (at least for me) with latest Google Voice update. Can no longer sign in to my account. Was good while it lasted!
Useless... This is already handled by Google voice
It doesn't work. UI hangs and crashes when you try to update the settings. It just sits there and eats memory in the background.
The settings are confusing. It seems that no matter how I set it up, my calls ring through to both cell and gtalk.
Easy to understand, either forward the calls to your Google number, your landline on file or both. I personally only forward all my calls to my Google number and it has never failed me.
This function should be standard in the paid GrooveIP, app, but either way, it's worth the money. The new setup wizard is a great addition.
Great.
Works as it should! I'm very happy with it!
I use my Google voice number as my main number. This with groove ip allows me to receive calls regardless of whether I get wifi or carrier signal. It took some support via email, but I'm happy so far with both their apps. The developer should consider merging both apps as such cases like mine are probably common.
Since upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.2 it refuses to login. Now just says cannot retrieve Google voice number.
Great app. Works as advertised. Looks like the developer has updated the login method. Helpful user guide that walks you through all the settings. A widget for this app would be fantastic.
Just set up Groove IP and came across an obvious problem and this app is the obvious solution. I only want to use VOIP over WIFI but not over 3G/4G. This app worked perfectly to change my GV call forwarding settings when disabling/enabling WIFI.
Fails to log me into my voice account. Rebooted phone, doesn't make a difference. Uninstall+reinstall does nothing. No help file and NO REFUND. No one else has reported this problem, but consider yourself warned. And, yes, I keyed the correct user id & password and even generated a Google application-specific password that failed.
Samsung SII/Ting dot com (MVNO over Sprint) For those who do not understand the need for this application; 1. The Why, I use GrooVe IP only on WIFI because a) The bandwidth of WIFI allows for good connection/sound b) I do not use my data plan for phone calls because it is not cost effective and quality is spotty. So before this application, when I wanted my calls redirected to my telco phone, I would have to go to google voice page and disable Google Chat and enable my phone number for call redirection. And do the opposite when I am home, so google voice redirects it to Groove IP (App Phone). 2. For the guy Brian who said "worthless" .., 99.99% of the time I do have 3G connectivity, it may not be good enough for VOIP but good enough for this app to send a quick msg to google app changing the settings. 3. If you do the math, depending on your telco plan, VOIP over 3G may not be cost effective, it uses about 600K - 1MB per minute vs using your call minutes. 4. I second the motion for OATH. I was a bit hesitant to enter my google credentials. Knowing it was the same company as grooVe IP made it easier. 5. Happy to pay $0.99 if it means the developer gives this app a little love.
It affects where the text messages are sent too (meaning gv won't tell me if I have any new texts when grooveip is running, if they're supposed to be sent to my cell. I have to manually change the settings every time). I just wanted it to change my calls according to the description but leave the messages alone!
The best thing to ever happen to Google Voice.
This would be an amazing app if it was possible to create "profiles" that could be activated through programs like Tasker or shortcuts. It covers the bare necessities, but could do so much more. It's also very slow, which may be Google 's fault, but the annoyance from the speed could be negated with the options mentioned above.
Even with my config. Have GrooveIP set to login on wifi and phone to go to airplane mode which stops double rings already. May be useful for some who don't automate airplane mode for that. Real useful part for me is when I manually login to groove IP on cellular to save minutes when they get short and I have spare data. Now double rings are prevented in that case, too :)
Vague menus- I can't tell what the settings are because it resets them every time I go into a menu and gives no confirmation of any update. Also when I lose wifi it doesn't change the setting to non-wifi so then calls aren't forwarded to my cell. Fix those two and I'll give it 5 stars.

They don't EXPLICITLY tell you this upfront but you have to have a live data connection for this to work. This may seem obvious when you understand what the program actually does --- for those like me who just use GV over wifi cell talk with no 3g/4g service the program is useless. Would have been nice to highlight this caveat.
Only useful if you use VOIP on wifi only. I use VOIP through 3g/4g as well, and only want call forwarding to my cell number when there is no data connection from wifi or 3g/4g, ie poor signal or emergencies.
I don't know what people are saying about settings being confusing, it's super easy. You choose which number(s) to forward to when on wifi, and which number(s) to forward to when not on wifi. Since AutoAP switcher apps don't work any more in Android 4.2 (thanks a loot google), this is the best solution I've found. Especially for those of us using VOIP when on wifi and cell when not on wifi.
The purpose of this app is, basically, to avoid a double ring problem of Google Voice calling both your phone and GrooveIp. The idea is to tell GV to stop forwarding to GrooveIP when you loose 3g/4g/wifi so that you will still get calls forwarded to your phone via your cell phone number. However, in order for Groove Forwarder to tell GV to stop forwarding to GrooveIP, there needs to be a data connection..... so you need the data connection you just lost to tell GV to update... uh... so this app is basically worthless.
Keeps force closing. Doesn't work. WTF! N4 - Android 4.2.1
Automatic settings don't work
Great.
$ Excellent+
The automatic settings for this app are confusing and limited, and even when you do set them up they don't work correctly. I'm tried of missing calls because of the automatic settings messing up. Useful if you just want it for the quick manual switching of settings, but that's it. I had a 4 star review for a while, I don't know if it's gone down-hill or if I'm just tired of trying to force it to work correctly.
I had to find just the right setting on the forwarder and on IP to get it to work the way I wanted. The instructions on Forwarder weren't that straight forward in there wording, but it worked out eventually.
I love this app. I can program which phone rings depending on which WiFi network I'm connected to. So if I'm home, only home phone rings. At work, only desk phone rings. At my parents house, only parent's phone rings. In the car, only my own cell phone rings. (I have my cell phone ring in all locations for those rare times WiFi connection might be flaky.) So far it's been flawless. Question: will GV's transition to Hangouts limit this app, like it will for Groove IP (well, killing Groove IP)?
I feel like this should be included with the paid version of Groove IP. It's a pain and sort of confusing have to have another app to so this. The settings are also still confusing as other have said. The wording of settings should be the same as the setting options in Google voice.
Very poor app. Does not do whats promised. Keeps on crashing. Want my money back you theives
Poor implementation, keeps un-forwarding phones. This should be such a trivial program I am surprised at how poorly it works.
This should be part of the paid GrooveIP app...but it works flawlessly and fills a big gap in my VOIP setup. Great work!
This is just what I needed to configure GooVe IP to work the way I want. Makes the setup extremely easy. ☺
