You are being spied on. It’s more than one app you trust on your smartphone. For example:
Why does Brightest Flashlight need to Geolocate you? It doesn’t. That’s why the FTC recently sued them. Here's the story: http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2014/04/ftc-approves-final-order-settling-charges-against-flashlight-app
But what about all the other apps on your smartphone or tablet? What about your kids? Just watch this video of Miss Teen USA 2013, Cassidy Wolf, who was victimized because an online predator could watch her remotely through her webcam from an app she trusted: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/miss-teen-usa-discusses-webcam-hack-at-cyber-security-expo/

BACKGROUND
Everyone wants a flashlight app on their phone.
Finding your keys, searching for something you lost, looking for the light switch in a hotel room? What a great utility, right? Wrong! The top 10 free flashlight apps in the Google Play store alone account for nearly 1/2 BILLION INSTALLATIONS, and appear to be spying on users and monetizing their data, with application sizes ranging from of 1.2 to 5 megabytes (~1200-5000kB) before even considering the data these apps store.
In fact, an optimized flashlight application should only be ~100-200kB; that's 25 times smaller than some of these "free" flashlights.
PROBLEM
So, why so big? The size is significant because there's a lot more code than necessary embedded in these applications which allows them to eavesdrop on you - among other things. Nothing in life is free. These flashlight apps do some very strange things – geolocate you, read your contacts list, read your device storage (possibly looking for personal and sensitive pictures), read and write files, access your phone number and so much more that we would consider all of them well designed MALWARE. All of them!!!
It’s clear to us at SnoopWall that these applications are designed to expose your personal information to cybercriminals. In addition, you are at significant risk if you do Mobile Banking on the same device as one of these free Flashlight Apps. Our strong recommendation is to uninstall your flashlight app immediately.
SOLUTION
SnoopWall developed Privacy Flashlight for Google Android, Apple iOS and MS Windows smartphones and tablets. The file size of the SnoopWall Privacy Flashlight application is approximately 138 kilobytes before installation. It only accesses the flash of the camera (requires the flashlight and camera permissions in Android) and the screen display, which is all a flashlight app should be doing anyway.
We've also developed another free application, Privacy App, which will scan your Android device and show you what apps are potentially spying on you. Does an app seem suspicious? Confirm with Privacy App.
If you do online banking, make sure your Mobile Banking App has SnoopWall's patented Privacy Shield inside.

So after all this, why does running this app result in "Internet connection not active" messages? Restart, check to make sure it's the only manual app running, wait, no messages, run it, they appear again. Why does a supposedly safe flashlight need internet access? Forgive me, folks, after all this talk, I'm suspicious. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
There is no reason this app shouldn't have an overall rating of five stars. It seems dumb people don't understand the app needs permission to access the camera in order to use the flash as a flashlight. Anyway, I like that it can turn on when you open the app. I love that there's a display light as well as the LED light. I mostly love the tiny 240k size. The first flashlight I downloaded was literally 100 times that size which you know is fishy. THANK YOU developers for this great little app.
Pro: You can set flashlight to automatically turn on when opening app. Pro: Has a widget that works like a flashlight button. Con: Flashlight in the app is on the left. & w/ ugly interface. Con: Not instantaneously quick/responsive. Those were my nitpicks, but this specific flashlight app is the most convenient even at a tiny size. I prefer if all phones came with a stock flashlight app though, because this good flashlight app does not hold up to the stock flashlights.
It took me a long time to find a flashlight app that didn't take permissions to view my phone accounts and then relay it back to base by taking network data access rights too. Thank you for helping us out!
Don't ever use any other flashlight. 99.9% of flashlight apps in the app store spy on its users. Regardless if this is just to feed you ads, its leaky. Leaks your location and possibly much more.
I don't understand why it needs permission to use the camera. Shouldn't it need only 1 permission: to use the flashlight? It doesn't make sense to me. Other than that, this app is easily one of the best apps on the Google store. It's how an app should be: simple, compact, easy to use, very functional, and not malware.
If only more developers would follow the same path....I've often wondered why apps need access to certain areas within our devices? Truth is, THEY DO NOT! What is done with all of the information, which is (supposed to be) personal and private? For its own behalf, this app takes the worry away. Thank you, keep creating!
Simple and effective. An app that only request permission to access what it needs and not one thing more?!? Yes, you may ask yourself how this can be true. But I can finally say YES IT IS! it's amazing I know and this makes me hopeful again for humanity.
The graphics might not be as spiffy as some of the other flashlight apps, but I like that as soon as I push on the app, the flashlight is ready to turn on. I'm not having to wait up to 10 seconds for an ad to show up before the light comes on.
Just watched Special Report about flashlight apps and immediately deleted the one I had and found this one. However, I have 360 Security on my phone. Shouldn't this help with finding and ridding my phone of viruses, Trojans and malware to prevent anything from happening to it?? I hope so.
Makes light, does not show ads and does not invade your privacy. The 5-second limit is just the default when you first install it. All you need to do is adjust the settings. You can easily make it stay on indefinitely.
Everyone needs a flashlight, but they don't need to be spied on, or have their e-mail, their contact list, or other info sold to who knows who! Thanks to the developer for a simple flashlight that works! I wondered why so many apps ask so many permissions to access things that have nothing to do with their function...now I know why!
After hearing about other flashlight apps stealing information and spying on phones, I'm glad to say this only does what it says. Check your flashlight app, if its a few Mb, it is doing more than turning on a light. Delete it and install this app. Even though the app is small, wish I could move it to SD card since I don't use it that often.
Does what it is supposed too. Made me look into my family's other phones, their flashlights ranged from 16-21 mb , yep they were all Bloatware and spyware filled. Thx for making this.
4 stars for being simple would have been 5 if it could run in the background so I could use the led light while I also used the phone for other things like speaker phone so I can get technical help with issues in dark areas
Idk how but I installed this on my M8.. used it for a little while and then my camera started to make a grinding noise and wouldn't focus..went to AT&T got a replacement...immediately downloaded this app...turned on the light for a few seconds and the same problem... Be careful what device you put it on
Smallest app at 138Kb(!) Without annoying fashing ads! Probably could be even smaller without auto-shut-off feature, but that feature doesn't get in a way, so if you don't need it - just ignore it.
I own a s5 and it keeps turning off by itself . Still turns off when I hit any of my buttons like the power . When I use it I don't want it to turn off unless I say so . It's to turns off from the app itself period no other way. It's a pain having to turn back on when I am in the middle of doing things ........!!!!!!!!!
Nice app, needed somerhing since Sprint disabled the flashlight control on my S5. Best thin IMO is no annoying ADs.
I saw this on Fox News, and sure enough perfect!!! 2 flashlights in 1, I can choose either the LCD screen as a light or the back side camera LED as a light, neat, perfect!!! Now no foreign country spying on my phone via malware and Trojans. Thank you so much! I wish all apps for this honest.

Apps that keep things simple without. trying to highjack your phone are nice. One less thing to consume cpu cycles and network bandwidth. No wonder my Galaxy Note 2 become so slow. I had the "other" flashlight app installed. Currently on my wife's old S4 Active running only the minimum app set I need to, survive at work. This will be a new default app from now on
Was great. Now, only lights up screen, never ever did that. And the actual flashlight gone! I didn't even update. It's worthless. A bright flashlight from my rear camera that actually was a light, not a screen brightener. What happened??? And lost widget because it wouldn't close, so I forced stopped, and that disappeared. I loved it. Was so simple. To press a button, my rear camera light shined bright. Now I get a screen, I've never even seen before. I could care less to brighten my screen. Idn ???
Amazingly, most flashlight apps available ask for unnecessary permissions to areas of your decice. This is one of the only flashlight apps that does not. I recommend this app to all my friends. Always check permissions requested by apps before installing.
Love it! It's very bright & you have a choice of using the screen on the phone or your camera as a flashlight. And one of my favorite things about this little doodad is that it's got a timer which is good for me cuz I live out in the sticks & I need a flashlight at night to walk my little Chihuahua to go potty & I hate for my screen to be on when I'm using the flashlight cuz my fingers start pushing other apps to open by mistake. It is totally the best flashlight app in the play store. So I give it all 5 *
Does what it is supposed too. Made me look into my family's other phones, their flashlights ranged from 16-21 mb , yep they were all Bloatware and spyware filled. Thx for making this.
It's so hard to find a respectable company on the app market. I shouldn't have to Give all my info away just for a simple app
The app itself is fine. The widget is still buggy on Samsung Galaxy S6. Randomly turns off. I use this app every day and it will turn off at the times you need it worse. *Update * I about fell down the stairs this morning because it shut off for no reason. One star till problem solved.
Thank you guys so much for putting a flashlight app that doesn't try to spy on you and download malware. I just realized my old flashlight used 11 mb of memory on my phone.
This app has all the things I was looking for. Only needs access to the camera and can be set to turn on by default so you don't have to flick an extra switch and can be set to turn off when you navigate away. That's what a flashlight app should give you.
It's a flashlight, nothing more. No spyware, or anything else. And it's free. If you need multicolored light or strobe features, etc., you need something other than this app. But know your privacy will be gone!
Installed this great app after discovering Flashlight app previously installed used 4.7Mb of data in 45 seconds of use. OK it does not actually flash the led but why would you use that? It does allow you set an on period should you forget to turn it off. Found it by asking why it used data on internet. Great work.
Finally a flashlight that won't ruin your phone! I love this one because the last one I got (a different one) completely broke my phone and I had to get a factory reset.
Remember back when a flashlight used to come built into every standard cellphone? Well, technological progress sure took care of THAT primitive practice. Now in 2016, you can have the pleasure of installing a "flashlight app" that can then go through all the stuff in your phone at leisure. Yay! But seriously, this app is good enough to send them packing. At only a few 100 KB and with privacy-respectful permission requirements, what's not to love?
I took this app apart piece by piece and found NO underlying malware what so ever...non that's amazing...I am a Sony tech for Playstation so I have the knowledge to do things of this nature and I gotta say thanks for an app that works right.i have now told all my friends and family to download this app...pass it on ppl it's lagit.and yes it does....on some devices turn on the camera but only because it has to to use the light below it certain devices are set from the factory this way....no need to worry.
Great app. Love the privacy level for a flashlight app. So many others want way too much info off of your devices. Runs great on my G3. Couldn't ask for more the best of it's kind out there!
Does not spy on you like other apps! NICE! Stays on when screen goes black! NICE! Settings to turn light on when opened! NICE! IT IS THE BEST! And less than a MB! Other ones are 5MB meaning.... Malware/Spyware!
I was getting sick of that "Brightest LED Flashlight" or whatever it's called because it would take nearly 20 seconds or longer just to turn on my flashlight which is ridiculous. I gave this app 5 stars because it does exactly what it's suppose to and nothing more. It doesn't require a zillion little permissions to unrelated functions, just the camera. Also, since it doesn't try to access your entire phone it activates nearly instantly so no more waiting nearly half a min just for my flashlight to activate.
I used this app on my HTC One M7 model (1st edition), and the only issue I ever had was when loading the app. I had to keep the phone still or otherwise it would turn off. Once activated & on I could maneuver the phone around with rarely having issues. The worst that would happen was that I had to start the app again. Now l have the Galaxy Note 4, I have yet to try it out. I will post an update at a later time. I wish more apps had less spyware & followed this creator's lead.

Works excellent. Does what it says, just only camera permission & that's fine with me. Has the options how I want to use the flashlight of having my cell screen off while flashlight does its job. I don't mind the caps of the app, nor the timer it comes with. This is a number one flashlight app of all Google play store to me & for whoever else has it. Plus no ads which makes it just awesome to keep this app. The logo is too big or small that you can't read it
