About SnapNPlay music Demo

Your phone can sight read sheet music! "SnapNPlay music" is the first app that allows you to take a picture of sheet music and play it back. It is designed for the students of music. Snap a picture of sheet music and watch the notes light up in time as you hear the music played back to you. Select an instrument to watch it play the notes in time to the music. Choose between piano, recorder, guitar, violin, viola, cello, and bass. Watch the positions on the instrument light up and learn to play with ease!

For optimal results hold your camera as close as possible to the line of sheet music. Do not include clef, key signature nor time signature in snap. When holding the camera too far away, it doesn't work as well.

Be sure to watch the tutorials right here: http://musical-snapnplay.com/?page_id=12

The demo version has limited features. You cannot save a snap, combine snaps, and you will only be able to view half the notes light up on the instruments. The piano will light up all the notes.

The workflow:
Snap a picture of 3-4 phrases of sheet music. Fit the music in the rectangle and keep it steady. Select the Key and Clef. Edit the music. SnapNPlay will detect most notes and rhythms, but you will have to analyze and correct the music. Play the music. Learn the tune. Select an instrument. Save the snap. Snap the next 3-4 phrases...save it. Snap some more..save it. Then you can combine snaps that you saved and hear an entire tune played while watching the notes light up in time. Adjust the tempo or transpose the tune. Sing it, play it on your fiddle, recorder, viola, cello, bass, guitar or piano. Do you want other instruments to be included? Email the developer.

Email me when you experience difficulty. Email me when you have suggestions. Send me your snaps. I'd love to see them so I can analyze and make the app better!

Currently the SnapNPlay algorithm only tries to detect notes, their length and accidentals. It does not try to parse triplets, rests, or grace notes. It does a great job at helping you learn a tune and learning to read sheet music. Just spend a few minutes snapping and learning. After you learn the tune, you will always be able to play it!

Doesn't know what a sharp, flat, clef, or time signature is... Waste of time and space.

My snaps are crisp and clear and it won't recognize any of the notes.

Freezes once the picture is taken

U70%

Can't decide what is and is not a note? K.

C70%
by C####:

Helped me. Seriously.

R70%
by R####:

The app is picking up sharps and flats as a note. Not much help that it doesnt play the correct pitch either.

R70%
by R####:

Every time I take a photo of some songs it thinks that the words above are notes, and you can't zoom in close enough to get the full bar without the words or only getting a small portion of the line....

J70%
by J####:

I took a picture of my sheet music and it cant tell the difference between a flat sign and the notes

P70%

Doesn't know what a sharp, flat, clef, or time signature is... Waste of time and space.

But not much. don't waste your time.

S70%

Couldn't focus on sheet music, wouldn't respond to clicking on shutter, crashed every time it managed to try taking a picture. What a load of garbage.

Z70%
by Z####:

Don't know if it freezes because of it only being a demo but it does. If it were ME trying to sell this app, I'd make sure the the demo worked flawlessly. That way the customer was left with no doubt about it's functionality.

Doesnt work well

Z70%

Doesnt read well on any sheet music and doesnt work with rest symbols or anything.

My daughter asked hoe her sheet violin music should be played. With this app I took a photo of the top line, made a couple of easy edits where marks on the paper were thought to be notes, and then it played the tune perfectly! She then remembered the rhythm and xould do the rest by herself. Very helpful app!

C70%
by C####:

Had a good picture, yet it kept missing notes or misinterpreting other notations as notes.

Great.

Great concept, but needs work. Read poetry much everything it possibly could as a note (clef, rest, musical notations, even part if a bar at one point) which lead to some weird effects. That said, I can see the potential. And it works be great if you could tie together several shots to play and entire piece.

This is a brilliant idea! It's still a little rough around the edges but it definitely has potential. I suggest you find a way to take more than one picture and then be able to play all notes at once. Another future option could be to have more than just the piano like a guitar or drums.

Q70%
by Q####:

It's a great start, somewhat hampered by narrow angle lenses on smartphone cameras but as the development continues I see lots of promise. I'll buy it after my grade 1. Keep up the top work dev!

Q70%
by Q####:

Fantastic concept but it struggled to recognise anything I snapped, it was playing notes randomly and missing notes all together. Can only get better though!

C70%
by C####:

It's not perfect, but the idea is really cool, and the app does work to a limited extent.

T70%
by T####:

With further development this will be the next big thing! Move it along through the experiment phase, give it a great UI, and you'll have a hit seller!

Q70%
by Q####:

This is a good looking app and very easy to use, which is important for non technical users such as myself. The videos are a great help. I look forward to seeing future updates from this publisher and I am downloading the paid version as we speak. I just used it to play Gotye "Somebody that I used to know" and it worked awesome

Q70%
by Q####:

Interesting idea, but demo had very limited features, and even at that it doesn't seem to work so well.

X70%
by X####:

Doesn't work at all on my tablet. Crashes as soon as you hit 'Snap' to take the picture. Oh well, it's in development.. A very cool concept, should be popular as it develops.

Q70%
by Q####:

It's good overall just needs to work on picking up notes a little better. Took snapshots of different sheets and sometimes it worked great while other times when the line had a lot of notes, the app skipped some notes.

Q70%
by Q####:

ut it shows some quirks. Staccato notes were seen as two notes, the cleff was played as a note. Might be because of the photo I took? I wonder if the full version is better

Z70%
by Z####:

Works great on my Galaxy Nexus! Looking forward to future updates!

P70%
by P####:

Excellent concept.my sister which plays piano loved it.

Q70%
by Q####:

All things considered it is a great start. Hope to see many improvements!

Q70%
by Q####:

The cleft was read as a note. Tempo is limited to 180 BPM. Staccato is read and played as separate. Would be good if it could transcribe a whole piece. MIDI export will also be a good feature to have.

P70%
by P####:

Nice try but a long way to go yet for it to be truly useful.

Q70%
by Q####:

Awesome!

X70%
by X####:

First it was snapping for five minutes straight, then it started playing and there is no percussion option. This is a terrible demo if you want us to buy the full version.

U70%
by U####:

This isnt good it cant read music at all

U70%
by U####:

How can you convince us to buy the full version if it does not detect the rest of the notes?? The snapshots are pretty clear, but some notes are not detected. Will that be fixed?

K70%
by K####:

I really like this app. It has video help tutorials, if you follow the directions it works really well. Note recognition is better than smartscore. It can work with different types of music and has an edit function. I was so happy with this app that I upgraded to pro within 5 minutes.
