About SMS Sounds

Allows you to assign custom ringtones, vibrations, and LED Colors* to each of your contacts whenever you receive a text or multimedia message (SMS or MMS)! This app is very small compared to the full service SMS applications. It will not bloat your phone as it is designed to be used in addition to the default messaging software on your phone. You can setup every contact with a different ringtone so you know exactly who is sending you a text message!

*Some phones do not allow the color of the LED light to be altered. We cannot guarantee this app will allow you to change its color.

Steps for using SMS Sounds:

1. Turn off the default ringtone in the Messaging app. Run the Messaging app. Click Menu > Settings > Select ringtone > Silent. If you can disable vibrations in the Messaging settings, we recommend you do that also as the app now features vibrations. If not, go to Settings > Sounds > Vibration > Never.

2. Tap the “+” and setup your contacts with their own custom notifications. You can edit them at any time by tapping on the contact in the home screen (be sure to click save before exiting the screen).

3. Tap the "s" and setup the default notification sounds you had to disable in step 1 for the app to work properly.

FYI:
This version includes all the features of the paid version. However, to keep the app free we've included a banner ad as well as an interstitial ad upon exiting the app. This will help us keep the app compatible with all future versions of Android. Please purchase the paid version if you like the app and do not want the ads.

FAQ’s:

Q: Why does the ringtone keep playing until I answer it?

A: Some ringtone files are set to loop endlessly. You can check this when you are in the ringtone picker. Select a tone and if it continues to ring over and over, it will also loop when you receive an SMS. The best thing for you to do is create or pirate your own sound files that do not loop and set them for your contacts.

Q: Why am I unable to assign a contact group a tone?

A: We promote individualism and do not support group tones at this time.

Q: Why do I get two notifications for every SMS text I receive?

A: This common problem occurs when you have a notification tone set in the Messaging app you use. You will need to set the sound to silent by going into the Messaging app then click menu to go to the Settings > Select Ringtone > Set as Silent. Don’t ask me how to shut them off for other custom applications, I didn’t develop them and I certainly don’t recommend them!

Q: My ringtones stopped working!

A: Try restarting your phone or going into the app to uncheck and recheck the "Tones Enabled?" box.

Q: Why do you need all those permissions?

A: That is the only way the application can recognize who an incoming text is coming from and to determine if you have a ringtone assigned to that number. We absolutely do NOT collect contacts or message information!

HTC sucks when it comes to using your own music for custom SMS/MMS. To any HTC One user. Use this app!

I love this app. It does exactly what I want it to, however it had a very annoying bug. Almost half the time I receive a message the led continues blink after I have read the message. The only way to get it to stop is to force quit the app and restart it. Running it on a Galaxy S5. I'd also like more led color options.

I been searching forever for a simple app that sets custom text tones for each contact. Awesome!! Thank youuuuuuu!!

After the fiasco with GO SMS, I tried other SMS apps to customize ringtones for each contact. Nothing worked perfectly, so I'm using the stock SMS app alongside this app, and it's the best set-up so far. Uses a lot of battery.

If you'd like custom notification sounds for certain people without installing a large sms app with a load of gimmicks this is it. It's quick and easy and works. The last update fixed the database number vs. sound name issue. If you have sounds assigned & numbers are shown simply change them (even if the same) to show their name.

I have a VM TCT Venture. I know, not state of the art, but suffices. This app DOES work, but not only does it set off individual text tones, but the default goes off as well. Very odd. Perhaps I have done something not quite to specifications, but I am usually pretty good at these things. So, I give it 3 stars. It does what it says, with issues. UPDATE 10/31/12: I DID do it right after the developer emailed me almost immediately. It worked wonderfully until my phone blew up last night. My bf bought me a new LGE-LG-VM696. When I follow the directions it either gives both sms tones or none. In the process of communicating with the developer.

Lightweight app that does exactly want I need. Update: Notification light keeps blinking after clearing messages. Want this to work so bad.

Z70%

I want different notification tones for different people, by notification i mean TEXT. Either I can't use the app right, or it is bad. When i try to set sms tones by using the s, it sets that as default. I want the default and certain text tones for certain people, my phone will let me set different ringtones. Finding a new app.

I had the app on my Assend 2 and it gave a friend a not so nice text tone. Kinda funny though. Thanks for the laugh.

If you'd like custom notification sounds for certain people without installing a large sms app with a bunch of gimmicks this is it. It's quick and easy and works. The only issue I have is the database number is displayed instead of the sound name. That's quite an annoyance.

Z70%

The sounds repeat incessantly. I have had to turn off all notification sounds. Not sure if this is the app or my Galaxy S3. The app keeps bugging me to add custom sounds.

Used to use SMS popup but it did double notification and this one avoids that. Don't need a fancy popup anyway. I just want to use the stock messaging app but need to assign different tones to each of my contacts' texts. No fancy bells and whistles and I don't need anything more than that. It's minimal, relatively small memory footprint, and does what it's supposed to do.

Works great. My Android 4.1 jelly bean phone had problem with LED light won't stop flashing. I found that if you pull down notification bar (like checking for notifications) then release bar. Lights STOP flashing. On my phone pulling down notification bar also will silence a long text tone so you don't have to listen to the entire tone or song that you assigned to your contact.

Worked on my Huawei ascend 2 and I'm installing it on my LG optimus F6.

A really nice idea, simple but not that efficient. Not working 100% of time. Time to times we get default sound instead of the prefered one. Also, would be nice to set sound group specific (like starred...) Hope to have a fix soon :)
