Photo Translator Free for Android
I tried three times. The first time I just got nothing really, the second time I took just a segment of the text and it translated it quite nicely. It was from a botanical book, from French to English, and I understood quite well what was going on. The third time was from a picture with notations a,b,c etc with a word explanation and it didn't mix up anything. I got my translation alphabetically though they we're scattered around on the picture.
I had few Chinese manuals.. And i dont even know, what it said till i get this app..and the worst thing, for me, as i dont know Chinese letters, i cant even type that into google or something to transalte it to english.. Now i got this app.. And i managed to read the important things which i was waiting to know about for some years.. You guys are just great.. Well done.. Hope u will add more language support soon. And also indian unicodes too.. Wish u all the best
I was testing with the free version (English to Spanish) and it scanned a few phrases and translated. I would like to see how it does with the other languages. Update- since getting the code for the full version, I have been trying to get a good scan and translation from Chinese (traditional) to English. The scanning brings a lot of garbage in and you get a series of characters not in the original.
I know there is another app out there making the news but I will stick with this one. There are so many more languages to choose from. Not the basic European languages. You can select two languages other than just English->X or X->English, and I love the fact it does not open right to the camera screen to drain the battery, you can translate a document sent to your phone and the language selection options are easier to navigate.
When choosing what option to translate from.. It needs an option for "how in the heck would I know what language it is" ... Cuz seriously it's not like my image says "this is written in ______<--- (insert language here) just so ya know.. plus it worked once then I used the same pic again and it didn't work second time. If you agree click the little thumbs up that you found it helpful.. So maybe then the dev will recognize that it's an issue and fix it?.
Everyone should try this is great to have on hand. You never know when you'll come across something that you have no idea what it is these days! This help will double many mysteries!
Photo translation Haven‘t used it yet but is a great idea if it works like it says it does. It's too bad you have to rate this application to get the full version. Should come as a full version from the start so the rating would legitimate.
Yes, you have to pay for it to be useful. It is not particularly accurate, but you can generally figure out enough to get by. It is often hilarious. I'm having fun reading hotel guide and seeing what it comes up with. Who knew I could get kindey neoplasms from the front desk?
I took a text photo of about 150 words and clicked to translate. The program told me that the translation would take a minute. I am still waiting 5 minutes later. The app is not yet competent. I have seen much better apps where the text is converted in real-time without clicking photograph. This is the app I wanted to download. Does anyone know the name of this app?
Haven't tried it yet though. I want to translate chinese characters so I'm still waiting for the full version after this. Would have been better if they let us try the 25 languages once, then rate to make a more detailed review. Ohh well... The general idea is great and handy since not many people are multi-lingual. Hoping it proves itself as a worthy translating app.
It does a good job translating from german to English. The only problem is that i am looking for an app that replaces the text in the same pucture that i took. For example i recived a ensurance form in german. The app did a good job at translating the text to English but it just arange it like plain text. I need to know witch is witch so i can fill in the form. Maybe a next version will have that option. Tcs anyways. For those who want just a simple translation is great.
Great concept but - On the website they have listed many languages including arabic. Right now they have only 5 language combinations, but they are the standard English, French, German, thai and I think Spanish. That is more than what Google translate has. But I wanted to translate an arabic image text to English. Though it is listed they don't have it.
I really would like to be able to translate languages like Japanese and Korean. Languages like German Spanish Belgian, etc. At least you can read the characters, but the Asian ones are impossible. I'm in Japan now. I'll be in Korea in a few months. If it works I'll come back and up my rating.
I just love it. I have never seen any image translator app more exact. This one is great. Try it. You'll see how easy you can translate one whole text in any language you want. The only thing you have to be careful is the pictures you take. They have to be clear and not blurry. Download it and enjoy it. :-)
Some texts may not be translated because of the different formating of other programs but it works very well-if you crop the photo first before you can translate it. And be more precise in about how much of the text you need at a time. And also, be careful where it came from (the Album,-photo or gallery.) the best for myself is album-photo-select photo, language(s), translate. I truly hope this has been helpful.
Great idea but free version is ok at best. 1/5 of photos translated. Stopped working 2 times and blank translation page 2 times. Ability to upgrade to pro version for rating the app a great idea! Will keep installed to try again after next update.
In theory this app will be really useful but need it for Italian and that is not on the trial list. Tried from English to any free language. Wouldn't select image from gallery so tried camera. Took a very clear picture of 3 simple words and it didn't recognise anything
A lot of magazines in a multitude of languages cross my desk every month and this app is a brilliant way to read snippets of text without any bother. It won't translate a page at a time - a paragraph is about the limit - but it's very useful nonetheless.
First it tried to get me to rate the app before even using it, but ignoring that, I tried it using one of the four languages available, and the app didn't work at all. It's a cool concept, but it returned nothing each time I tried to translate something. I tried taking a picture of an object with wording, I tried uploading a document with type, neither returned results and both the original text and translation were blank.
it's a scam to offer full version if we put a rating and (positive obviously) feedback. It falsely inflated the app's rating and the number of downloads which was why I was misled to believe this was a quality app. This defeats the whole purpose of this feedback and rating system, Google shouldn't even allow this in the first place. Shame on Google for not picking their slack. And Google, you should offer 0 rating or even negative rating options if you want a truly free and healthy market.
This app works in real time and does what it says on the box. Although out does give you the impression that if you point it at a road sign it will translate the whole thing, it actually only does a line of txt. But it certainly helps to instantly translate. Will upgrade .
I downloaded the lite version and tried to translate Spanish to English from a plain text document. I focused on two examples of short sentences less than 8 words. It attempts to translate for a minute then says "file not found". I then took a couple more pictures with the native camera app on my phone instead of this translate app. I re-entered the translate app and found the pictures again. It continues to not translate. I'm leaving this review in hopes that I get full access to the app. If it works, I'll change this review. Currently doesn't work for me.
Waste of time unless you purchase full app. Free version is limited to 4 languages, but no way am I going to purchase if I am unable to confirm it works first. Why not limit the number of translations instead of languages???
I needed to be able to check my daughter's Greek homework translation. This would be ideal, but every time I take a picture of a word, the app shuts down. I paid $2.99 and haven't been able to use it once. Love the concept if it worked.
In comparison with other apps, I found this one to be easy to use. I went to a Mexican restaurant took a picture on my tablet to translate to English. I'm in my late 50's at my age you want things in life to go easy, this app. Is easy to use in comparison with others. Thank you for making life a little easier. Thomas
Not sure why it asks for feedback the very first time I open it. I mean I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I'm trying to translate some Korean text so I'll need the full version to test it out. Perhaps it may be best to ask for feedback after a few usages?
Amazing app, works almost all the time. When my friend told me that this app exists, i was doubtful that it will work. I then tested it on a few differnet language texts and realized that they are perfect translations evnthough the word orders are a bit messed up. Saved me a lot of time when i am doing projects in my french class. I would recomment this app to anybody who likes to save time and learn more languages :)
Downloaded and uninstalled in 10 minutes. Image selection from album never worked. It select the image from camera but while translating it give error file not found. I would say try world lens to translate the image text much better than this app
*Edit... just tried the english to japanese translator and all it gave me complete gibberish. Not worth a flip. I understand that it takes alot to extract text and translate but this program is even worth being free. Havent used it yet but it is a good concept if it works and doesnt kill my data. Not too good over seas unless your on wifi.
I've tried it with English to Spanish, and the translation is quite accurate in my opinion. I just hope that the full version is free so that everyone can enjoy it. "Forcing" the users to leave a feedback to avail the full version for free is not really appealing. I really want to try this app with Chinese and Korean.
Update: as I thought, doesn't work. Great concept, but no idea if the app works because I can't try it in Japanese. I have to leave this review before I can download the full version, which is an odd and kind of pointless system but oh well. Great if it works, but I've not got high hopes.
Thw program as a whole works well, though not seamlessly. Still, it outranks its rivals by far. I use it, and have been happy with what rwsults I have been able to get... it is somwtimes spotty in other countries (where it is most likely to be used!) So -one star for context. Thank you
Strange and tedious function of having to snap a pic one by one to get a text done. Slow reactions as such and requires a lot of uploading waiting time. Not as handy as i thought when in a rush eg. Classes. It however translated French well. Great for large texts. 5 stars if it had live translation.
You have to get quite close on the text. I find a normal A4 page needs to be split into 2 or 3 images. You also have to save the image to use it so im constantly having to take, translate, then delete the image. It also loses all formatting which makes it very hard to know where one thing has ended and another starts I.e. on a menu where one dish finishes and another starts.
It says if I leave a feedback I will get the full version for free is this the right place to leave this? I have not yet tried the program, but I need something that will translate text from pictures, thanks if it work correctly.
Have to leave a reveiw before i use it it took me having to delete it and redownload to open it in the first place but it might still be okay well see edit tried to use it after reveiw wouldnt accept that id written a reveiw when i tried to open it again after that it just came up with an error message i will be deleting this app
I wanted to use this to translate Japanese which is only available if I pay or leave a review. I actually have no idea how this app works but should soon
I am happy to find an app like this that translates more than just a few languages, unlike the Google app that does this. The google version doesn't even do Chinese but this one does. BTW, about the people complaining about reviewing it to get the full version FOR FREE, you can also just make a straight out in-app purchase for under 2 bucks instead... if you prefer.
Works most part of the time. Anyway, sometimes it is not able to extract the text, especially from letters that has watermarks or lateral annotations. Fair app.

I can't say if I hated it this software or love it. Certainly the in-between ratings are just as invalid. Simply put you have to rate this software before you can adequately use it or even test it. After installing this I was given only one choice in translating; English to Spanish. This would be a great way to determine if this software works or is well designed if I spoke or understood Spanish. I am writing a review now just so I might have a chance to actually test this software but since it is installed on a tablet while this review is written on my computer (typing on a table is tortuously slow) I can't even be guaranteed this will allow me access now. Keep this mind when you go to test this out.
