About WiFi Heat

WiFi Heat is a great way to visually show the signal strength of your wireless network with your Android phone or tablet.

WiFi Heat is simple to use--you can create an informative map in minutes. It will create a detailed heatmap that can be used for adjusting your wireless access point settings or location for maximum speed, signal quality and best coverage. You can either use your own floor plan, or simply use Google Maps satellite view. Once you have a map imported into WiFi Heat, you simply walk around the area the map represents and mark your position.

* WiFi heat will display the signal strength of every wireless network in your survey area.
* Supports multiple building levels and will display 2D or 3D signal strength maps of an area.
* WiFi Heat helps you select which channel is the quietest for minimum interference from neighbors.
* WiFi Heat uses a unique algorithm which accurately estimates signal strength in unknown areas.
* Designed for both phones and tablets, in portrait and landscape orientations.
* Supports metric and imperial systems.
* Visualizations are distinguishable for people who are color blind.
* Professionally made with no tolerance for bugs.

If you see anything that you like, would like, or don't like in WiFi Heat, please let us know! We are happy to receive feedback of any kind. Leave us feedback at http://wifiheat.com/

Please note that parabolic antennas have not been tested, so the generated visualisations might not be as accurate as an omnidirectional antenna.

I can't create heat map from two my dual band (2.4 & 5Ghz) routers, because this app can't merge same access point names. I can see the access points one by one. In other hand the coloring is not accurate, the whole home is green on the heat map, however the signal strength is not max everywhere... The map zooming and blueprint fitting is too rough.

The only thing this is missing is sampling and tracking vis gps. You have to manually take a sample. I would very much like a gps option like kismet with gps. Also triangulation of detected ap would be a huge win.

Not worth the money at all. Cute if a free app, annoying that I had to pay for it.

The app doesn't use your GPS receiver data at all. This makes it useless for any actual work.

App does not work

C70%

No updates since 2012. That says it all. This software uses a well tested method to gather samples. A floor plan is displayed, user selects thier physical location on map, adds sample. It works in commercial settings where we cannot trust GPS reception for the efficacy of our findings. However, the heat map lacks precision and always assumes a signal continues past ones sample area. You must litterally survey the entire displayed area. No improvements made or effort to improve user expirence. Abandoned.

Z70%
by Z####:

The map data is not cached, therefore if you are in a building or without good connection you do not see the map. It is necessary to see the map since you have put in your position on the map by hand. There is no GPS tracking of your exact position integrated. Only at the beginning the app accesses GPS to frame your survey area.

App insists that you line up your floorplan with Google Earth imagery. My floorplan isn't to scale and I'm not leaving the building anyway, so why would I do that?

Q70%
by Q####:

Pics look nice, app is pretty lame actually. If you are looking for something where you can take an overlay image (satellite photo, blueprint, etc) and walk around and map WiFi AP signal strengths, then this app is terrible at delivering that. The photos tell a different story, here is why I say don't waste your money: 1) you can take a satellite photo or overlay or whatever for your survey, but the data points that you gather have nothing to do with the image they are overlayed on! There is no setting or feature to allow you to control the SCALING or registration of the image. The datapoints used to generate the heatmap have NO CORRELATION to the image the heatmap is generated over. You would think that at least the google maps satellite image they would be able to scale the GPS location info appropriately, but it is not even close. Useless really... 2) You must manually select the AP you want to sample and then PRESS + to add a sample point. You can't just walk around and sample all the AP's and signal levels in an area. You must select the AP by MAC address and manually add each datapoint it gathers. Imagine if you have a building with a wireless mesh and lots of AP's to test!

Gave the app a test run around our warehouse to test the WIFI coverage. We are in the process of implementing an expensive warehouse management system that uses WIFI barcode scanners. WIFI Heat helped us identify areas with low coverage before going live. Consultants were planning to charge us thousands of dollars to perform a site survey. This app saved us a fortune!

Q70%
by Q####:

As there is no GPS integration for the samples, you need to position the target yourself using the touchscreen as you walk around. This is likely to be very imprecise outdoors (with less exact reference points) as well as tiring. For indoor mapping it appears to be well suited.

Still has some bugs and is not very handy. Especially adding a Floorplan and aligning it is awful. The resolution of the map Screenshot is really bad. Perhaps open street map would be way better here. GPS/Wi-Fi localization works bad and I cannot even find the option to start it when I declined it in the first place. Could also be improved on free fields with automatic samples and GPS Position. At the moment I recommend using software on your laptop. Very unprofessional: you can't enter decimal Heights!

This is a great app, and will for the most part do what I need it to do. However three recommendations: 1. Add channel listing to the heat map where it lists AP and Mac. 2. auto plot based off of GPS 3. Combine SSID to a single AP. Add these and you will have a 5 star app.

It would be nice to not gave to be forced to include google earth imagery onto my floor plan. My location does not have high resolution Google earth imagery so it just makes a mess out of the map. Uninstalled.

This app is worth every penny. Very surprised it doesn't have more reviews! I learned a lot about my WiFi setup very easily and quickly. SATELLITE MODE MAY SEEM GLITCHY! Just zoom in while it's loading! I do wish it didn't start satellite mode using gps. Ability to input an address would be great, but if you play with it instead waiting for the gps position it works fine. THE HEAT MAP IS EASY TO SET UP! Especially with the satellite image option. No need to bust out a tape measure and make a crude blueprint of your house (though it would help, and is an option). Just run around your house/property taking samples (and moving the sample target location) and you'll build a heat map very quickly. NOTE THAT THE MAP DOES NOT ESTIMATE SIGNAL DECAY! If you take two samples with great signal on one side of your map, you'll see green forever in that direction. Make sure to take plenty of samples! Data in data out! I was mostly concerned with the signal range outside of my house. My front porch has always been a dead zone unless I'm sitting under the kitchen window. Turns out my WiFi was shooting out the back and towards my neighbor's house :) Super awesome for the price.

I use this for mapping out WiFi in retail stores. It has really helped to identify dead zones and overlap. Only problem so far is it crashes when trying to import a floorplan. I have to use Satellite images which can be difficult to map accurately.

This is a great little app towards finding the strong and weak areas of your home network. I'm sure there could be many ideas towards improvements and wish lists. Two that come to mind for me is being able to wipe out all points if you choose to, and the other would be for the tablet to automatically scan in the points as you walk around. This might be done by a combination of reading the gps points and marking the points at certain intervals along the way.

This app did exactly what I wanted it to do. Would be nice to be able to hit a button and have it collect a bunch or samples over a small specified time interval and then average the results rather than just collecting one sample for a given position. I think this would average out some of the error to obtain more accurate results.
