Slingplayer for Phones

Main issue is the chromecast icon rarely showing up. Casting ability is there about 10% of the time. I'm keeping an iPad around just to act as a remote and cast starting device. I've never seen it have an issue on the iPad app. Something else new are the constant reconnecting issue. Any time I change a channel or have to buffer slightly it takes the app 60-90 seconds to reconnect to my slingbox. Again this isn't happening on our iDevices. Currently using Pixel XL device.

I love my Slingbox. I can watch anything its connected to on my tablet or cellphone but the Chromecast feature has weird issues that keep it from casting to Chromecast all the time. Casting icon doesn't even show up. It came back on right before I posted this but hopefully it stays. Only seems to work on the paid version but barely. I can confirm it works perfect on Apple version.

Used to work great. Can no longer control programming remotely (on/off, channel adjustment, guide, etc). The app does stream , just not realistic to have to set channel in advance and leave on set top box to utilize the technology. Samsung S7 with recent OS update installed. Issue persists with both this and iOS iPad Air.

Channel controls no longer come up. This isn't an IR issue... The controls never appear, so it is impossible to change the channel or even to hit select to watch the current channel. Slingbox is now 100% broken and useless. Did a complete phone wipe and app still doesn't work.

This app used to be great because I could cast slingplayer from my phone to my tv via a Chromecast dongle. This hand off to Chromecast has been broken for a few months now. The cast starts at first, but then after about 5 minutes it stops every single time. It is unusable now and I'm not sure why they are not fixing this issue as many others have the same issue. I even had to pay for this app....

The paid version is alot better than the free one. Worth the upgrade. As I've seen in other reviews the casting feature doesn't work at all. I never get prompted to cast and this really is the reason I purchased a sling box in the first place. Please fix !!

Only reason I bought this app was to use it with my Chromecast, and as others have posted here the stream never starts successfully. On my most recent attempts, the Chromecast button doesn't even appear in the app anymore when all my other Chromecast-enabled apps have no trouble at all on my Nexus 6P. I can't believe I paid $15 for this TRASH. Also, sending feedback to the developers for the last 2 years has done absolutely nothing to mitigate or resolve the problem. As you can tell the app hasn't been updated since May 2016. Makes you wonder whether or nothing they have anyone working over there at all.

I've had this app for several years on several phones. Loved it. But now with my Samsung S7 edge it clogs up the memory. When I look at the storage settings it tell me the slingbox app is using 18GB. When I Uninstalled the app the problem goes away. As soon as I reinstall and connect the memory problem comes right back. Apparently if my slingbox which is working fine on my laptop is out of warranty you don't offer tech support without paying for it? WTF? Please fix the app

So sad to see this app not supported...Chromecast worked on my phone until it was updated to the newest OS. Fortunately for me I have an old tablet that it still works to Chromecast from, most are probably not so fortunate. Good developers make sure their apps are updated in a timely manner. Unfortunately when you are a monopoly you don't have too.

LG V20, second generation Chromecasts. I can cast my screen, but casting the Slingplayer video is impossible. There is NO problem casting from my wife's iPhone 6 using the free player. To say I am disappointed is a serious understatement. Too bad I cannot assign zero stars.

This UI is a complete dumpster fire, and Chromecasting works for about two seconds before quitting out. The stream stops and buffers after every remote keypress. With the Chrome plugin broken, I have no way to use my expensive Slingbox. Contacting support costs $30 per call. Sling Media is a joke and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. I can't believe they make you pay for the hardware, the app, and support calls all separately.

I had to purchase $80 COMPONENT to HDMI converter, after upgrading Xfinity box. This was not easy, only one company makes the correct converter for slingbox. The remote does not work on my Galaxy 6. I own Sb500 device. Fix remote please and update your technology to move away from Component cables.

3/26/17 update: i have 3 different chromecasts in my house. The free app nor the paid app finds any of them. What a joke. Soooo what happened to the ability to cast to chromecast? This is ridiculous. App is a joke. All the other video apps i use (hbo go, foxsports, netflix, youtube) all have no problem finding any of my chromecasts immediately. This app never will connect.

Casting to a Chromecast is very unreliable, and that's a big factor for me. FIX THIS DEFECT, and you get 5 stars. I'm tired of having to reboot my SGS8 every time I want to cast to my TV, which is the only reliably way to see the cast icon.

I've been using slingbox for a long time (tuner). Now, I have the m1 because tv stuff is gping digital now. Everything is A-ok except the remote. I hope the interface is much simpler as it's hard looking for certain buttons & constant switching of tabs to look.

What more can you ask for. Streams well, looks good, great features and now that they've added the guide along with photo and media streaming one is left wondering can it get any better? Don't hesitate to buy it is the real deal! UPDATE ..... I loved it before. I was excited to receive my S7 Edge and couldn't wait to view my Slingbox on this screen only to be so disappointed. It constantly flickers green. The sad part is I bought this app even before they reduced the price. So I reduced the stars from 5 to 1 please fix this.

App & system totally meet my needs. Great when you're away from home. Chromecast, Chromecast, Chromecast. Tut, tut, tut... What a shame. Paid all this money for a great product but the easy stuff slips through the devs fingers. How does that happen? Chromecast icon appears infrequently. But, TV on the phone is still excellent. Please fix the Chromecast issue and I'll return to 5 stars a sing sling box praises!

Works great with Nexus 6P. Love the interface and responsiveness. Only reason for four stars vs five is price. IMHO, purchasing a hardware device, and then having to pay extra for the software to make it work, on my phone, and even more to make it work on a tablet, seems a bit greedy. At least there's no fees for USING the service.

The app works fine for playing video on the phone. The Chromecast icon never shows up on any of my android devices including my Nexus 6. I also have multiple Chromecast devices, both first and second gen. It worked in the past. Casting works fine for all other apps I use and I can cast the entire phone screen using the Android native functions. Please fix this app.

Chromecast icon sometimes shows up, but most of the time it doesn't. I get a green flickering once in awhile as well. My fiance has an iPhone and sometimes she has a chromecast icon, and sometimes she doesn't. I'm using galaxy s7 with the latest updates. Works great when it works. Can we please get an update to fix the chromecast issues? Customer support is non existent.

I purchased this app specifically to cast from the Slingplayer on my phone to Chromecast and my TV. This worked very well until recently. The Slingplayer still runs very well on my phone, but the Chromecast icon never appears. I see that many others are having the same problem. I already paid the ridiculous $16 for this app. This issue needs to be fixed immediately. I will re-rate if the issue is fixed.

Rich with features, all of which are helpful. Set up is intuitive and easy to use. My only criticism is that $14.99 is a bit steep for a steaming app. I have to say, if I had not already bought the hardware , I might have thought twice about the whole endeavor. EDIT: Got new xfinity cable box, app says connected video signal not supported. WTF!!! Still using component connection!

I've been using slingbox for years and it's been great - until now! It crashed EVERY SINGLE TIME within a minute on Android. I know that others have the same issue. Sling acts dumb like there is nothing wrong. There is something wrong. This app is useless.

7/20: The flickering green frames issue reported long ago on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge finally appears corrected, either by Sling or Samsung. The Slingbox concept is good and the app has finally restored a good user experience on S7E. It works well and I can again recommend it.

The Chromecast streaming feature does not work consistently. Often, even when connected to the right wi-fi network and when other apps can stream to the Chromecast, SlingPlayer does not show the Chromecast icon. Furthermore, there is a bug on the galaxy s7 which makes viewing on the phone impossible as the screen constantly flashes green.

Not working keeps asking me to check if the sling box connected to the Internet.I am 2000 miles away how am I supposed to do that? By the way it is connected OK . Please fix or me and many others I'm sure will have to look for alternative means !

Worst app developer, Does not work with chromecast, even on latest update 2.13.1. Cast icon randomly shows up 1 out of 20 times. I have no issues with other cast ready apps, only from slingmedia. Chromecast is best selling streaming device, there should be support for this device. It seems like they are intentionally limiting functionality to chromecast, since no other app has problems working with chromecast. How hard can it be to get cast feature working when all other apps have it?

Still no update? It's been months. please fix Chromecast!! Sometimes I used to have to reset the app 10-11 times to get it to work on chromecast, but now not at all. The chromecast screen will show connecting for a sec, then goes back to my background pictures. This is a great player. But: The controls are missing a menu and exit option. Those would be nice. Big problems after upgrading to a Galaxy S7. Green screen shows up constantly. Had to go into developer options. Turned off hardware overlays to get it to work properly. Not sure how that will affect other apps. I turn it back on when I'm done watching my slingbox. Needs this fixed.

Update: PLEASE UPDATE THE APP, crashes the slingbox Everytime I change channel from phone. Works fine on tablet and computer!!!!! The interface is that of earlier iPhone generations.. this has to be fixed. It is sub par at best. Buggy. Similar to Web player for computer. Need to invest time and money into these fields. I just got new chromecast and it will not stream for more than a few mins without crashing. Phone says you are streaming to chromecast but the chromecast isn't casting

Does not work correctly with google pixel xl phone. Any command sent to the slingbox from the app causes the app to indicate it needs to reconnect and when it reconnects it is in the exact same state as when the connection was lost. Confirmed the app works from a laptop and Samsung 6 edge no problem. The issue is only with the google pixel XL that I can tell.

I bought this to use with Chromecast, and it doesn't work. I tried using their terrible FAQs but clearly the problem is with this app. A quick search will show that this problem exists for a vast majority of users.

Love using this app to chromecast to my TV. It can work near flawlessly (besides struggling to find the Chromecast) for days and then all of the sudden brick itself. On multiple occasions I've spent an hour attempting to cast without success. It'll fail to find a chromecast on my network, fail to load onto the chromecast, and then run into an unable to stream error. The next day it'll be fine again.

None of the slingplayer apps support Android Multi Window mode (I.e. multitasking with two apps side by side). The app can be put into multi window mode beside another app, but slingplayer immediately disconnects when you interact with the second app (I.e. when slingplayer loses focus). Also, I'd like a way to limit bandwidth over WiFi like you can already do for mobile data (so that when I'm connected to a mobile hotspot over WiFi, I.e. tethering, I don't burn through data as fast).

Does as advertised. Just wish screen controls approximated the actual remote control so I can do dvr functions. Important when playing back dvr./on S-5 worked ok/on new S-7 keeps cutting out and showing green screen every couple minutes. Hard to watch anything!

Update resulted in loss of vol control of TWC Sci Atl DVR cable box. Vol control of Android device itself w/in app is useless. Otherwise, nice app..

Allows you to watch your local channels and everything else you pay for. Its worth paying for the ad free version also. It's 15 bucks so don't be cheap, just buy it and enjoy the ad free version. Cable providers love saying you can watch anywhere but they don't tell you it excludes local channels or blackout games(anyone with directv gamepass knows about this) this way you can watch EVERY channel. Great device.

Used this app for years on my Samsung Galaxy S4 and it was mostly reliable with just a few exceptions when trying to watch overseas. But with the Galaxy S7, this app intermittently flashes a green screen color during video, especially when using the menus. It also rebuffers the video WAY more frequently, causing gaps in playback. I thought Slingbox would get working on these new S7 issues but it's now been 4 months and no updates. It's really starting to get annoying.

Disappointment.

Updates are slow, when the app works it's great but since upgrading to S7 Edge the app no longer works again. Streams fine for about a minute and then just freezes. Please update the app quicker. I could have really done with this working this week. Customer support is terrible, worst I've seen from any tech company.
