94.9 KUOW Public Radio Seattle for Android
If i didnt like kuow, this horribly glitchy, always stopping and needing to be restarted pos app would be uninstalled already! Worst functioning app ive ever seen!!! I have to restart my phone to quit the app or it runs forever fix this crap!
This is the only app I have for which I need to employ "tricks" to get it to work. EG, it often hangs on the opening advertisement, the, seemingly randomly, starts streaming 2, 5 or 10 minutes later. I don't have the cut out issue that others describe, but this is pretty annoying. I've reported it to the station, but they just told me they cannot replicate the problem. I get other station via app's just fine, so I know it's not my wifi.
The audio doesn't stop when i get a phone call. I have to answer the phone and yell over the app to ask people to hold on while i try to get it to stop playing.
When it works, it's great. Too many crashes and the streaming can't change networks without being restarted. Edit: 4/7/17 Streaming has been fixed. Very happy with it!
The app continuously freezes streaming which means you can't follow a story on this radio channel. When it freezes, you lose track of the story. So incredibly frustrating period at the point where I'm just going to uninstall the app. I've also had problems exiting the app. You have to hit the back button twice and sometimes that doesn't work sometimes I also need to open up all apps and X out that app as well. I have contacted their technical support on several occasions but they still can't get it together.
Glitchy as hell. Great except for the app randomly pausing audio or the opposite of magically playing for no reason on full blast speaker. Can somewhat be embarrassing in a quiet office setting Edit: 5/12 - Dropping this down to a 2. The app is getting worse can randomly launching by itself and completely randomly playing with absolutely no input from me.
I guess it works but I hate it. Bloated. Wish I could share any news item or program segment I hear via email.
This version has issues with being able to thrn it off once you close it. It just keeps playing. Very annoying.
The complaints in the reviews make me think that perhaps the problem is that the SIM cards are on the fritz. Ask your provider for a new one. Try it, you'll like it. I live in my van. After the app became available, I started listening on the phone, to use less of what the solar panels provide. After having the new app for several weeks, today was the first time I heard an instrument "clanging." Is there a way to listen to each segment that has aired, or are some only presented as text ? Six out of five stars !
So far so good. Minimal issues with playback, it only occasionally cuts out, but picks up where it left off. Pretty easy to use.
I listen every morning. The app does cut out from time to time, replaying their opening 'ad'. It doesn't really bother me. I love being able to live stream the news.
Very unstable. Stops playing frequently compared to other apps. I'm using the free NPR app instead -- it is a much better platform for KUOW and other NPR stations.
Just installed new version of KUOW App; so, revising my rating to "5" from a"1". In two weeks, no drop outs! Major improvement! Now, I can concentrate on the content, not the app platform's poor performance.
Terrible app. Doesn't stop playing when closed! It also buffers constantly, even on wifi. Really too bad, it is a great station.
The stream cuts out far to often. The app is also difficult to exit and will drain your battery if you don't monitor and insure it is off.
It cuts out frequently and then has to go thru the advertising/sponsorship spiel so you miss content.
Will not close when done listening, have to 'force stop' in android. Content great, app poor.
Frequently stops playing. I still use it because it is my only option.
Worked great. Latest updated prevents the app from being closed. I have to uninstall just to get it to stop playing. Please squash these bugs.
Audio stops playing intermittently.
Pretty glichy, so glitchy that it keeps asking me to rate it:/
Cuts out. Hard to kill.
Unreliable signal for live stream
I am a fan and will continue to support any and. All PBS broadcasting.
Frequently cuts out.
Better than KUER but still cuts outs randomly. Same look and feel.
Still buggy. I love the station, but the app leaves much to be desired.
I listen to Science Friday. That's all.
Works well
Listening to radio on phone is Cool
Get KNOW anywhere in the world!!!!
Convenient, reliable.
Love it!

Tried to load an add before starting the stream which makes the app crash. You have to restart it so that the stream will start without playing the add. Anytime you switch between cell towers or WiFi Hotspot the stream stops until you open the app again, then it restarts on its own. Sometimes the stream just stops for no reason, so you have to open the app and every few minutes to keep listening. I'm a first time member this year, but as this is my primary way of listening, it's probably the last year I'll be a member too.
Avid NPR listener. This app as it's been upgraded is easier to use. The station is a rich resource very accessible. No more driveway moments as I can turn the radio on in this app as I turn it off in my car and listen to it walking to and into the house.
UPDATE February 2017: After some in improvements to streaming since my last review, the app now stops when the device locks and cannot be restarted. You need to stop the app and restart it for streaming to resume. That makes it essentially useless. I still use it mostly at home over WIFI. The app is supposed to stream KUOW radio. Unfortunately, the Android version is just plain terrible. Streaming stops every minute or so, and you need to hit the play button to re-start streaming, which may or may not work. I use the app mostly at home over WIFI, so it's not a signal problem. My husband experiences the same issues. The app is pretty much useless the way it is (not) working now. Used to own an iPhone, never had trouble streaming KUOW with it.
I've been listening to kuow since 1971 even though I have lived far away I listen to it almost every day. Part of the joy is catching up with things I've missed earlier in the day. But mostly it's the depth and breadth of the programming.
This app is great when it actually works. It crashes or stops playing every 15 minutes or so. I've updated the app and even upgraded to Dual-band WiFi, but it still won't work for long enough to even hear the end of a story.

Cuts out often. Once I turn it off it will turn itself on again randomly. Have to restart my phone for it to turn off completely. The new logo looks too Etsy for my tastes. That said, I listen through the ap every morning because I don't have a radio in my house, so it is good enough.
