SkyBell HD for Android
Was generally ok before, but like a new product since update. It just works! Does what it promises and what you'd expect. Now it loads fast and performs well. One great feature to add would be choice of viewing the recorded video or going to live if you don't click the notification immediately. If I'm clicking a motion alarm 30 minutes later, I'd much prefer the option to view what triggered the alert, not go straight to live video.
In the short time I've used the Skybell HD it has been pretty much perfect for my needs. The video is crisp and clear. The 2 way audio is very useful. A few things to improve the usability : 1. Include a button to silence the chime on the main screen. This is a very functional mode when u have a baby sleeping. 2. Setup a schedule where the chime can be silenced. Once again very useful when u have a baby. 3. Add filters on the main screen for going through the cloud videos that have been captured. The product and functionality is on point. Many of the features implemented can be carried over into exterior lighting (sconces) as well. Keep up the good work Skybell team.
I was contacted and assisted getting skybell to work with hidden ssid on android successfully with an alpha update. Hopefully all the bugs will be remedied in the android app soon. This is greatly improved from the earlier versions and so far I am happy with it. When installing the device try putting your phone in airplane mode but with wifi turned on. It connects much simpler that way.
Latest update is hit and miss. Still plagued by delays or complete failure to come up. Motion triggered recording stops after 35second and would not re trigger for a couple minutes make it useless as a security camera. Things that could make it better: Features like in the competitor bell - selective motion zones? How about windows app?
Good design and idea. Like a fact that there is no subscription. Initially had issues with my LTE cell phone connection - no video. Jeremy from SkyBell responded very fast and fixed the issue. Awesome product no monthly charges and great response and help from Jeremy. Keep improving product hope you will add more good features soon.
The last update was a huge improvement. The motion detection is much more responsive, and the wide video picture has more clarity. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating is that I waiting for Skybell to address the support for"hidden SSID". For me, this is a huge security flaw.
Wow! Great device and even better support! It worked fantastically for a day and then it didn't. I "complained" and within the hour I had two support chaps (incl CTO) on the case. The app could do with individual notifications mute per user at app level though; like for when I'm in a meeting but someone is at home to answer on their device. Also needs a personal account management web page?
I was on the fence on returning the skybell HD. Not being able to connect to the live video mode was a real bummer. Ultimately, i decided against it. However, after todays update, things seem to be looking up! I have been able to successfully connect to live view 3 out of 3 times today. Each attempt took about 5 or less seconds to initialize. I will keep checking it periodically, but I am cautiously optimistic now! UPDATE: This app and the device itself have improved by leaps and bounds since I purchased it (mid December '16). I am extremely happy with this product now. If you are on the fence about buying this product solely because of the low average rating of this app, please make sure to look at the recent reviews! I don't think you can go wrong with this!
I hear all these great reviews about Jeromy responding quickly to his customers. I sent 2 emails and submitted a support request on their website. It's been almost 2 weeks and I still haven't heard from anyone! Very disappointed. I cannot download 1080p video to my device even though the setting is at 1080p. It downloads 720p regardless of the setting. Frame rate is only at 10 fps even though advertised at 30fps. My internet speed is very good so there should not be a problem with the connection. Update: I received a call from Jeremy and he was upfront and explained about the resolution and frame rate. He assured me that they will have 1080p video download in future updates. He was very helpful. Let's hope the update will come soon!
(Updating my review) - I thought this thing was terrible 2 months ago. Now I think it is the best smart doorbell on the market. Skybell made some tremendous changes (for the better) over the last two updates. Great Job Skybell Team!!!
This product and app is anything but reliable. I have great wireless coverage and a 300 megabits per second connection yet the video will connect one out of every 10 times. This product will work as a camera but then you might as well buy a camera with more features for a lower price. Using this product as a doorbell is almost impossible because video will not connect and when it does connect it is so delayed that the person has probably left already ------------------------------------ Update 2/7: Jeremy from Skybell reached out to me and was nice enough to work with me in order to get the issue resolved. After a special firmware update was made to my unit, functionality has become a lot more consistent and reliable. I will post another update as I get more time with the new firmware but so far so good. Thanks Jeremy
Initially I was unable to get live video, but Jeremy from support contacted me and the device now works fine. A technical issue to do with my provider which is fixed in my device and should be in the next firmware update. Now the device is working perfectly, I am using a galaxy S7.
Works great on the iPhone, but I've had nothing but problems with it on my Android. Was unable to sync when initially purchased and the app crashes every time I try to use it. Again, if you have an iPhone it seems work pretty well. But Android users, beware...
So far it just works as a very expensive door bell. No video, no live streaming, and no access to settings config. I'm begining to regret my decision to purchase this product. UPDATE:. Jeremy from Skybell HD was very interested in resolving my issue and did so very quickly while giving plenty of follow up to make certain the Skybell HD was working well. This product is awesome once it is setup and functioning properly. Thanks Jeremy!!! :D UPDATE 2:. Amazing product and the customer service rocks! The notications are great and the app opens right away. Having two way conversations with people at the door are clear and you can understand everything they say. The motion sensor is awesome and the video is excellent (1080). I love the fact that it automatically stores the recordings and you can download the videos and/or delete the videos you don't want. There's no monthly fee like other companies. Install was quick and easy. If you're worried about Internet connection at the doorbell, I downloaded a speed test app on my phone and ran it at the doorbell site. The instructions tell you what recommended speeds to run the camera. I highly recommend this product.
Overall the app is OK. I'd really like a much faster load time and perhaps a prompt that pops up, by the time I answer with video they've usually left. But my main beef is deleting videos, I beg you please add a select all and a multi select radio button so I can either delete all videos or one, two, twelve if I see fit. Man it takes time to purge videos with your current app!
It has improved with HD, however I still do not get the alert as quick as I should. I use two different phones one Verizon and one Sprint, the Sprint phone some times takes as long as 15 mins to get alert. The Verizon phone sometime gets the alert after 1 to 2 minutes. This means the person is leaving or already entered the home before I get the alert. I guess I can always refer to the video which seems to do a pretty good job of recording. A little personal issue I have is that I can not change the alert tone to something I can hear. I would like to have the ability to change it to a louder ring tone of my choosing. Again this is just a personal issue.
A little difficult to connect to android. Overall a great product. We're able to assist police department because of a burglary suspect coming up to the door and seeing if someone was home... scarey to watch. Still having issues with motion detection. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
I was an early adopter and suffered the consequences of a half-baked product. But the Skybell team provided excellent customer service, fixed the issues and delivered on promises to make major improvements, so that now Skybell is truly the great tool it professes to be.
I spent a lot of time deciding between the Skybell and Ring Pro. I made the wrong decision going with Skybell. The simple functionality of streaming video doesn't work, this should be the top feature that Skybell should have focused on. This does work with my iPad so I know it's not my router or network system. Simply put, spend your money elsewhere, I wish I did.
Right now it is an overpriced doorbell. I can't get it to sync with my android app. It syncs with no issues on my wife's iPhone.
This latest update connect faster now. I had an issue with hearing someone at the door. But I checked the settings on the app to ensure volume setting is set to high and I also clear the cache on the app.. working slot better now. Keep up the good job.
Really liking the product and app so far. Have one on my home and another installed for my parents in another city. We share an account so I've been able to say hello whenever someone I know goes over to their house and I'll occasionally say hi when my parents grab their mail. My Mom and Dad love being able to turn away solicitors without having to answer the door.
Really good product and great customer support! Would love to have the ability to delete multiple videos at a time. The new version of the app seems to be much better! Much of the latency between someone pressing the button and receiving a notification on my phone has been resolved. The only issue that I have is not being able to turn off motion notifications on my phones. One frustration that I have is that the app doesn't use standard network ports. At home I have an ASA firewall and I have to open all UDP ports to the Internet. Also I cannot be on the wireless network at work for the same reason. Jeremy has informed me that they are investigating options. Thanks Skybell support!
Was working much better after their recent updates but started getting "stream could not be established" again, just like I used to. Do not buy this garbage, it's been almost a year and they still can't get this right.
I am very impressed by the commitment of their support people to help solving problems. I enjoy using the device and I am very happy with my purchase. Special thanks to Jeremy, a very skilled and devoted man, clearly passionate about his work and the relationship with customers like me.
The reason I only gave 3 stars even though the functionality is great. However one of the main points of this app is to be able to answer the bell when someone rings it. There i however a delay of around 30 seconds until my phone gets the ring. The app also takes another 30 sec to load the streaming video after clicking the notification. My internet speed in my house is 50 down 25 up. Also it would be smarter if when the bell and phone are on the same network they communicate directly not through the internet. Regarding installation: I just bought this Bell from amazon. I have a project fi phone with the latest version of android and when I try to sync I keep getting "there was an error sending wifi data to skybell". I look all over and didn't find an answer. However after to waiting for the next business day to talk to support (after waiting 40 min until I got through to a rep). They told there is a bug so you have to put your phone in airplane mode to prevent the phone from trying to use the cellular data method for communicating with the app as opposed to the wifi.
After initial install live feed did not work but later the same day the developer pushed an update that fixed it. Latest update is much more reliable.
Had this installed for a full week. Video quality is nice. But audio quality can be hit and miss at times. Sometimes I can't hear the person outside but they can hear me while video still looks perfectly fine so can't be the wifi. Need to test more. The motion detection is also very sensitive to loud noise. Picks up trucks going by across the street before it even enters the camera view. Hopefully that can be made adjustable in the next update. For now all the false triggers are forcing me to keep motion notification disable. But that defeats the purpose of this feature...
After installibg we were able to see a cat crossing the lawn in the night. Only thing is that people can hear our voices on the sidewalk. We like it.
I don't review much. But I have had this skybell for about 7 months and could only rely on the recording never live. Now with the latest update I can now connect seemless within 5-10 sec at most. And connect in a easy hold, one hand, portrait view. Huge improvement. Would love a custom ringtone chooser. Also a auto connect to the app feature to automatically open the app if you chose rather than click on the notification.
The app has gotten so much better since I bought the doorbell. I highly recommend this product now no more back of head recordings, no more 10% connection rate, no more could not establish connection. I am very impressed with the way this product has evolved. Great customer service, great company, great product. I have never written a review before but this is worth it. Would be 5 stars if deleting old recordings was easier. Swipe then confirm, should just be a swipe maybe a 10 second undo but should have to confirm delete, and need a way to bulk delete.
Why can't I receive notifications!!!! This is bothersome EDIT: After getting contacted by support my notifications are working!!!!!! I am thrilled!!!!
Who pushes out an app for a hardware interface and doesn't TEST IT!? Returning my SkyBell asap. The product almost works. Bad job. The recording starts about 10 seconds too late on doorbell presses and motion detection. The download video recording button downloads the wrong video most of the time. The video on the server isn't representative of what's shown on the mobile app.
It keeps telling me unfortunately skybell has stopped just got problem fix they went above and beyond to help me fix the problem that's awesome service to me thanks guys
I've been trying to connect for the last 3 days, & all I get is poor customer service, they have you wait on the phone for an hour and when you do get someone they don't know about their product, I'll be returning this cr@p in the morning.
The APP is ok. There could be some sorting features (motion vs button). The company, however, is crap if you need support. Waiting 2 weeks for my ticket to be even looked at.
I love the huge improvement everything looks and works great,but wish when Skybell button is pressed wish the notification would be louder with a doorbell sound or something .
You guys do an strains job give your costumers what they want. More than happy with me skybell

From zero to hero. New firmware and updated app, I used to say save your money and get a ring, now these guys blow ring out of the water. Also a most helpful, personable, and humble CEO, this company is great, don't ever change! I only wish they had been able to achieve such greatness BEFORE Christmas when my Amazon Christmas packages were stolen off my porch and the camera didn't record or capture the motion. Looking forward to future app enhancements now that functionality is working top notch.
