SkySafari 5 Plus is more than the basic astronomy app, and this is its best version yet! It's a full-featured space simulator with telescope control. Note that there is no discount upgrade path from SkySafari Plus to Pro. Choose carefully! Here's what's new:

1) Complete rewrite of the compass code, for smoother and more accurate sky tracking!

2) Tonight at a Glance: the Sun, Moon, Planets, ISS, and Iridium flares in one handy view!

3) Notifications when the ISS will pass overhead, when Iridium satellites flare, and more!

4) Completely new sound effects, and a new look to the sky and horizon. Better transitions between portrait and landscape mode.

5) OpenGL boost! New 3D models of the ISS, HST, Phobos, Deimos, Ceres, Vesta, and other solar system objects and spacecraft. City lights on Earth's night side.

6) Object lists in the Search menu now show thumbnail images. New options in Advanced Search.

7) Updated object descriptions, now with images in-line! Every object now has a description!

8) Reworked Time Flow controls. Set the date and time directly from the main toolbar. Run time 1000 x faster than reality!

9) Google Drive sync for your settings and observing lists! Change them on one device, and synchronize your changes across all your Android and iOS devices!

10) An on-line repository of observing lists from experienced amateur astronomers. A "tour mode" that guides you through objects in each list!

11) An improved deep sky database with Abell and Hickson galaxy clusters, and globular clusters in M 31.

12) A handy Digitized Sky Survey viewer that lets you download images from the DSS!

13) Improved multi-star alignment for telescopes with digital setting circles. Add Barlows and Focal Reducers to your equipment list!

If you haven't used SkySafari Plus before, here's what you can do with it.

• Hold your device up, and SkySafari 5 Plus will find stars, constellations, planets, and more! The star chart updates automatically with your movements for the ultimate stargazing experience.

• Simulate the night sky up to 10,000 years in the past or future! Animate meteor showers, conjunctions, eclipses, and other celestial events with Time Flow.

• Search from our extensive database, and follow the arrow to objects in the sky. See spectacular views of Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and other planets!

• Learn the history, mythology, and science of astronomy! Browse over 1500 object descriptions and astronomical images. Explore NASA space missions! Stay up-to-date with SkyWeek for all major sky events every day!

• Control your telescope! SkySafari 5 Plus adds wired or wireless control for Celestron, Meade, Orion, SkyWatcher, and many other telescopes. Point your GoTo or “Push-To” telescope anywhere in the sky! Requires SkyFi or SkyWire accessories (sold separately).

• Plan observing sessions with Observing Lists, log your observations, and share with friends!

All this is built into SkySafari 5 Plus – no need for an Internet connection.

For even more features, and a gigantic database aimed at the most dedicated amateur or professional astronomer, check out SkySafari 5 Pro!

This is a great Astronomy app, I love it, I have learned a lot with this app, it has huge database and so much customization and many useful features which you don't get in any other app. But one thing which is annoying me and which led me to reduce rating from 5 to 4 stars is that it's sky doesn't look real as we see in night sky with our own eyes. And no matter how much you tweak the settings you don't get the real sky that you get in Stellarium app. And most of the time it's difficult to star hop because sky doesn't look Realistic. I tweaking many settings changing labels visibility and magnitude limit but still I don't get that sky that I see in Stellarium. It should also simulate light pollution by which by adjusting light polution I can get best possible real looking sky. Please learn these few things from Stellarium. I use Stellarium app to find my way in night sky instead if this. I really want you to implement this. Otherwise it's a very good app.

Everybody I know who is seriously into observing has this app. It is infinitely helpful in the field. If you do any sort of astro outreach, you need this app.

Y70%
by Y####:

Easy to use and full of information. I am using this app to spot the ISS.

Y70%

Great app. Works good with my scope. Love all of the detailed information.

S70%
by S####:

Exceptional experience. Simply the best value in all astronomy.

X70%
by X####:

Exellent star atlas, search function, and the skyfi connection to guide my scope works well (I needed some help from one of the developers to get the settings right ). What's not to like? Special thanks to Brian, the developer who helped me at the Texas Star Party. Version used: skysafari 5 plus on Android Addendum: it is easy to flip the view for both refractors and reflectors

X70%
by X####:

Excellent app which I use both to plan observing sessions and in the field. In combination with some more traditional tools like a sky atlas, it is an indispensable aid and reference.

Y70%

Does everything you would want in an astronomy program, even control your telescope.

I am a planetarium senior educator and presenter and I have used this app to teach the sky when not in the planetarium.

Informative. Fun.

O70%

I like the app. Good functionality, decent information. The transition from home to orbit view is a bit ridiculous, doesn't add anything to the app but takes time to go from one view to the other. I would like to see lunar features named on the moon and maybe an option to get more upcoming events (Jupiter moon events, red spot visibility etc), ie event times covering the next week rather than couple hours only.

Y70%
by Y####:

Easy to use, the telescope control is a big plus!

Y70%
by Y####:

Good program that works well

K70%
by K####:

The app is fantastic in almost every respect except that it does not allow it's display to be flipped vertically or horizontally. Telescopes often inverts or flip the image vertically or side to side or both. When using this app at the eyepiece, it should have the ability to make those same transitions so it's view can be set to match that view at the telescope eyepiece.

W70%
by W####:

Great app, excellent remote control of the Telescope and wonderful ability to follow where the Telescope is pointing at in your table or phone. Information, display, search capability and all other features are really very good. A pleasure to use. Only improvement I would recommend is to design an easier way to input multiple observations of the same object. Excellent work. Would recommend this app to anyone interested in Astronomy, especially if you own a go to Telescope.

F70%
by F####:

Simply the best astronomy app out there. Great for knowing what you are looking at and about what you are looking at. Can be used to control many telescopes. You don't need a scope to enjoy using it.

Y70%

Overall a great app for casual observing with either binos or a telescope. I love using the app to control my Celestron Schmidt Cass. I really appreciate the updates too.

I wish I'd gotten this ages ago! I've been using the free version, SkyPortal, but this one has way more objects and useful features while maintaining the easy-to-use functionality. As an astrophotographer, I needed access to a lot more targets, and this app is much easier to use than the mobile version of Stellarium. Highly recommend for any astronomer!

U70%
by U####:

The best app out there. The pro version has a lot more, but this has things way beyond the capabilities of my scope.

Z70%
by Z####:

Very poor support. I need to bind my heq5 mount with virtuoso app, then connect to the mount. After all this, the app closes down and shuts the phone down. Then I keep getting messages that this app is using up my battery. I want my money back!

A70%

Tends to stop and exit 4 or 5 times a week. Most annoying. Less stable than Sky Safari 4 Plus.

Y70%

So informative that it has made my passion for the universe and understanding it's make up, a journey that, so far, I am thoroughly enjoying with my family, friends and myself.

X70%

Y70%
by Y####:

Great app. Telescope control works like a charm. Observation lists are very handy ! What seems to be missing (maybe it's just a bug or so): it transfers the location (GPS coordinates, time, ...) to SynScan Hand Contorler, but it doesn't transfer the altitude also ?!?, so altitude must be manually filled in in the Hand Controler. I have SkyWatcher AZEQ5 with SynScan (V4) Hand Controler.

Y70%
by Y####:

Great app when purchased at the discount price, would still be good at full price. Not that many more features than the basic app which is a must have for all amateur scopers.

Y70%

My Motorola unable to download a compass app. Therefore cannot get full value. Information is very good
