About ChordKey (demo)

ChordKey is an experimental chorded keyboard application for Android. It allows you to type one-handed using different combinations ("chords") of only five keys, similar to Doug Engelbart’s original chorded keyboard.

ChordKey uses the Microwriter alphabet, invented by Cy Endfield and used with the permission of Chris Rainey. For best results, we recommend using the CyKey hardware keyboard with a PC:

This application is designed to be used on Android tablets (phone screens are typically too small), and requires touch screen hardware that supports at least 5 simultaneous touches.

CyKey was an invention that focuses on chording keys to achieve letters. The idea bases itself on gestures, almost. This app demonstrates it incredibly. I would love to see it executed into a true Android keyboard, but I suppose it's best as a physical product.

As an ex-Microwriter owner, I beg you... Please make it work as a switchable primary keyboard, with dictionary, or add a button to send text to clipboard (so it can be easily pasted into a document).

Had the microwriter in the early eighties and later versions including usb version for pc. Unbelievably fast learning curve due to the genius finger to letter representations. Have wanted cykey to provide an android version and I am now very excited. It would be good if the keys could be placed on the outside of a smart phone or 7 " tablet as that would make a perfect match. Brilliant piece of work

system brought to life in current technology. Cy Endfield, visionary theater & film director developed this intuitive text generator at the dawn of the electronic age to write scripts while off in the jungles making movies ("Zulu" w Michael Caine - who wrote about it in his Autobiography.) This is the one alternative to the antique single stroke typewriter keyboard that is truly preferable. Learn it in two hours., practice/play with it for two weeks, and you will prefer it to your QWERTY. - The future of mobile typing.

I have been using the microwriter keyboard, in all its incarnations, ever wince the original Microwriter back in 1981. I have been playing with this app on my HTC Desire HD phone, and I think it is great. I would love to able to use a full version on my phone.
