1. Can I use a different password for important files ? Yes, by default files are protected by the login PIN. You can apply a secondary password to individual files for additional security. Just long click on the file and select "Use password override".
2. What happens if I forget my password ? If you forget your password, there is NO way to retrieve it. This is for your protection. If the password could be retrieved, then Secure Notes would not be secure. There are many notepad apps on the Android market that provide a recovery feature that unlock by answering a secondary security question. These products are NOT secure since they have a backdoor around the original password.
3. Can I change the amount of time before the desktop is automatically locked. Yes, see the options menu.

Every time this thing updated, which it did a lot, it wiped out my protected files. Be careful with this thing. Make sure you have a backup copy of anything you encrypt.

Can not change passwords even if the app is uninstalled and then reinstalled,it remembers the original password, even if you restore a back up it requires the original passwords,so whatever you do do not forget your original password or you'll lose all your data and you'll be a throwing the money spent on this App down the drain. Edit 25/03/15 - Many thanks to Chuck from Signal Beach Software for his advice today on reinstalling this App.As it is possible to start afresh even though the previously entered data would still be lost I have now given this app 5 stars .

First I like this app a lot and believe it is exactly what I have been looking for. But for some reason I can't open the vault with pin. Would like to reset.

I was having a problem with my aVault encrypted database suddenly disappearing and the program essentially resetting itself. It appears now that this problem may be due to some other programs which are running on my smartphone and not due to a problem with the aVault program. This problem has so far disappeared after removing three programs all by Cheetah Mobile. They were CM Antivirus, Clean Master, and Battery Doctor. The author of aVault has been helpful and working with me to resolve this problem. I switched to Kaspersky Antivirus and CCleaner and have had no issues now since May 13, 2015. I was told another user had run aVault for almost a year with no problems until he installed some Cheetah Mobile apps. That's apparently when the same issues I was having started occurring. He suspected the CM antivirus but who knows for sure. Anyway, I'd certainly recommend this very useful app!!!

I keep losing my files and password. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times with the same results. Never had this problem before. What is the problem? This was the best app before this problem appeared. This happens only on my Samsung android tablet. Thank you.

Was a huge fan of this app, relying on it to assist this old man's memory, that is until I went to retrieve a password and all my data was lost. Wiped out just like I was starting over. I had purchased the pro version because I liked it so much. Totally deflated my opinion, from the 5-star rating I had previously given it, to this rating of only one star.

Love the fact that you can view or modify encrypted documents without having to unencrypt, modify and reencrypt. This is a must have for sensitive business documents. Support is fabulous too! Very responsive and friendly!

This application has the potential. No search function however in this application. If you have many documents then you have to browse with your eyes to find what you are looking for. Hope this feature add on will be implemented soon. 5 star regardless.

Much easier than always having to enter a PIN screen unlock code everytime I use my phone and more secure too. Only need to enter password when actually use one of my important files. I use separate, strong passwords, on critical stuff. Nice

True encryption for all file types After trying a dozen other "vault" apps that do little more than stash naughty pics in an obscure location, I settled on aVault for its true encryption of documents and media files, as well as for its handy interface. Files can be added from the internal file browser or by sending/sharing from Gallery or some other app. If the former, they can be linked rather than stored internally, and encrypted/decrypted in place, but the file name is of course still visible; for complete privacy use the import method. Once added, files can be reorganized within the vault, but the process is not obvious: you must open the properties dialog for each file and save to a different folder. The app will temporarily decrypt a file to be sent to a viewer or editor, or to its own HTML, text, and picture viewers (see Options), but it's not the most convenient solution for browsing multiple photos, as you have to open each one separately. PS - I don't get the other reviewer's beef about the login screen; I find it attractive and easy to use.

Backup and restore on android 7.0 crashes the app rendering it useless as a secure method of storage. Please update and my star rating will go back to 5 as before it was a good app.
