About RSS Conference
What is Conference?
Conference is the one time a year where Regents Scholars across the University of California can meet, trade ideas, and form networks in an exciting (but hopefully stress-free) setting. The agenda usually includes keynote speakers, student-led workshops, and team-building activities. The UC campuses with active Regents Scholars Societies take turns hosting Conference -- UC Davis is now taking a turn after recent conferences at UCLA and UC Berkeley. In addition to meeting other Regents Scholars, Conference also offers the opportunity to explore different parts of California and learn about student experiences at other UC campuses.
When is Conference?
This year's conference will be from Friday, May 2nd, to Sunday, May 4th. Check-in and early activities will take place Friday night, and events will continue through Sunday morning.
Where do we stay?
UC Davis Regents Scholars will host attendees in both on and off-campus housing. Many will be hosted by underclassmen Regents Scholars in the freshman honors dorm. Others will be able to stay in student apartments and houses in the town of Davis (which is directly adjacent to campus). Davis drivers will provide a comprehensive shuttling service to make sure visitors can easily get to and from their housing throughout the weekend.
What are the keynote speeches like?
At each conference, the hosting society invites distinguished faculty and community members to give brief lectures about their experiences in academia or other motivational presentations. Previous keynote speeches have included everything from an autobiographical presentation to a lecture on animal-based personality quizzes.
What are the workshops like?
Workshops offer an opportunity for Regents Scholars to teach and learn from each other. Every participating delegation is invited to prepare a workshop for the conference. Workshops can be professional (Ex: "How to increase your productivity and workflow with technology"), professional (Ex: "How to build your Regents Scholars Society"), or social (Ex: "Inter-UC nerf gun war"). Workshops will be arranged in blocks on Saturday, so each segment will offer several choices of simultaneous workshops for participants to attend.
What do we do for food?
The conference hosts will provide certain meals for attendees through UC Davis catering services. This is included in the fees for the conference. For other meals, attendees are welcome to sample the numerous restaurants in the downtown Davis, located three (short) blocks off campus.
How much does Conference cost, and what do the fees include?
Conference costs are variable by school, as transportation (either gas or airfare) may become a significant portion of the price of attending conference. Attendees are encouraged to talk with their society leadership in determining how they will get to Davis and what the overhead will be. The Davis-based fee of $25 per attendee goes towards meal services, conference t-shirts, and parking passes.

About Davis RSS
The UC Davis Regents Scholars Society (usually abbreviated as RSS) seeks to provide an environment for Regents Scholars to network and build professional skills. At UC Davis, virtually every freshman Regents Scholar lives in the same residence hall, resulting in unusually strong bonds and shared experiences throughout the honors program. RSS seeks to continue to nurture those bonds and create a cohesive community among the university's top students. Davis RSS members have had wonderful experiences at previous conferences, and seek to share their enthusiasm with the rest of the UC system and to deliver the same top-notch conference experience as previous years.
