Shani Mantra is one of the most efficacious one to chant in a way averting the ill effects of the Saade sati (7½ year) period when an individual comes under the influence of Shani or Saturn. The name Shanidev comes from the root Sanaischara meaning slow mover (the word ‘chara’ in Sanskrit means ‘movement). Astrologically, the planet of Shani or Saturn is the slowest moving one that resides for about 2½ years in a given zodiac sign.
