কৃষ্ণ চরিত্র

ধর্ম সম্বন্ধে আমার যাহা বলিবার আছে, তাহার সমস্ত আনুপূর্বিক সাধারণকে বুঝাইতে পারি, এমন সম্ভাবনা অল্পই। কেন না, কথা অনেক, সময় অল্প। সেই সকল কথার মধ্যে তিনটি কথা, আমি তিনটি প্রবন্ধে বুঝাইতে প্রবৃত্ত আছি। ঐ প্রবন্ধ তিনটি দুইখানি সাময়িক পত্রে ক্রমান্বয়ে প্রকাশিত হইতেছে।

উক্ত তিনটি প্রবন্ধের একটি অনুশীলন ধর্মবিষয়ক; দ্বিতীয়টি দেবতত্ত্ব বিষয়ক; তৃতীয়টি কৃষ্ণচরিত্র। প্রথম প্রবন্ধ “নবজীবনে” প্রকাশিত হইতেছে; দ্বিতীয় ও তৃতীয় “প্রচার” নামক পত্রে প্রকাশিত হইতেছে।

প্রায় দুই বৎসর হইল এই প্রবন্ধগুলি প্রকাশ আরম্ভ হইয়াছে; কিন্তু ইহার মধ্যে একটিও আজি পর্যন্ত সমাপ্ত করিতে পারি নাই। সমাপ্তি দূরে থাকুক, কোনটিও অধিক দূর অগ্রসর হইতে পারে নাই। তাহার অনেকগুলি কারণ আছে।

একে বিষয়গুলি অতি মহৎ, অতি বিস্তারিত সমালোচনা ভিন্ন তন্মধ্যে কোন বিষয়েরই মীমাংসা হইতে পারে না; তাহাতে আবার দাসত্বশৃঙ্খলে বদ্ধ লেখকের সময়ও অতি অল্প; এবং পরিশ্রম করিবার শক্তিও মনুষ্যের চিরকাল সমান থাকে না।
