About S.O.S. by American Red Cross

Be safe, prepared and informed when a medical emergency strikes with the American Red Cross’s S.O.S. App for Android.

The American Red Cross has teamed up with Dr. Oz and Sharecare to create the ultimate emergency care application. S.O.S. provides step-by-step instructions on dealing with a variety of emergencies, including choking, broken bones, strokes, allergic reactions and more. Not sure what the problem is? We’ll help you figure that out, too.

This free app includes:

- An expansive Emergency Guide for easy access to emergency care information.
- A questionnaire to help you determine an emergency’s severity and proper treatment.
- Dozens of videos, narrated by Dr. Oz, to coach you through emergency protocols. Particularly complex techniques, such as unconscious choking and CPR also include an audio and visual counter for real-time CPR compressions.
- Quick Care factoids to help you stay ahead of the curve before an emergency strikes. These range from knowing which foods can help motion sickness to the medical use for kitty litter.
- Easy access to 9-1-1. If you’re not in the US, we’ve got you covered – the app will determine what country you’re in and dial the appropriate emergency number.
- Alerts from the Red Cross to make it easy to help out in the case of a major disaster.

Emergency care protocols were developed and reviewed by prestigious medical and educational panels from both the American Red Cross and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).

I just downloaded it, and I am finding the guidance to be helpful, but I see one major shortcoming which is the very small font size. In an emergency I won't have the luxury of sitting down with my reading glasses on. If this is fixed I would give it 5 stars.

I haven't gone through the whole app but I'm not comfortable with the emergency button in the app. I accidentally pressed it and almost called 911 for no reason.

Although it's an awesome app. some of the contents inside the app uses such tiny font size, that in case of emergencies you will need to find a magnifier first.

From what I have seen so far it is a very informative simple straightforward easy to use emergency care informational app. I hope to never have to use it but it looks like if I do it will lead me the right way.

Good app. Could benefit from a "typed in" search function and less "Q&A" style. Needs to be more advanced technically. Thank you...the info given is a good starting point.

M70%
by M####:

some of their choking videos need to be modified for example it says to keep doing the chest and back blows until the object is removed or emergency personnel arrive.. what it should say is you should continue going back and forth between chest and back blows until obect is dislodged or infant becomes unresponsive. if child becomes unresponsive can you start CPR

N70%
by N####:

This is a very helpful app it has training videos (that are completly free to view) on all the first aid issues that could pop up. It also has helpful hints that are great.

M70%
by M####:

The older version seemed faster, and in an emergency seconds matter. Also, i preferred the old start screen, seemed more useful and intuitive for emergency situations.
