About Aircraft VOR

Aircraft VOR provides you with a GPS based aircraft VOR instrument shown as a typical Bendix/King KI-208A instrument.

It lets you 'tune' aircraft navigation Very High Frequency Omni-direction range (VOR) beacons via a worldwide database and allows you to select and track a VOR radial to or from the VOR station.
It also optionally shows you your cross-track deviation in metres.

Features:
- Bendix/King KI-208A face
- Worldwide VOR navigation database (downloaded on first use)
- Digital CRS and distance to station indications
- Option to display cross-track error
- Filtered and smoothed display - no jitter or jumping!
- Support for portrait and landscape screens
- Support for multiple screen resolutions

Usage

IMPORTANT POINT 1 - Please ensure you have an active data connection when starting the app for the first time as it will attempt to download the radio navigation database.

Don't use it until you know its working!
Until a GPS fix is obtained, or in case of GPS fix being lost, the VOR on/off indicator will be shown and the distance to station will show ----

Tuning a station
Use the app menu to select 'Tune NAV'. You will be presented with all the VOR stations within 200 nautical miles of your current location. Selecting a VOR will tune it up. Hit your devices 'Back' button when you have selected your desired VOR.

Finding out which radial you currently on
The first thing to remember when trying to find out which radial you are on is that all radials are from the station. The indicator is able to show you which direction to track to the station but this is not directly which radial you are on (it's 180 degrees out). To centre the needle and find the radial you are currently on, rotate the instruments compass card until the needle centres with a FROM indication.

Finding out your current bearing to the station
Sometimes it is necessary to obtain your current bearing to station. To obtain the bearing from your current position to the station, rotate the instruments compass card until the needle is centred and the TO flag is showing.

Flying a specific radial
Sometimes it is necessary to fly along a specific radial to/from the station. In this case, first select the radial you wish to fly by rotating the instruments compass card to that radial, ensuring the TO/FROM flag is in the correct sense. The VOR needle will then indicate to you which direction you need to move in order to intercept your desired radial. If the needle is to the right, fly right. If it is to the left, fly left. Upon approaching your desired radial, the needle will close into the centre. Each dot indicated on the display is 2 degrees, so the needle will start to move when you are within 10 degrees of the desired radial. You should begin to turn onto a desired course, which matches your radial so that your aircraft heading matches the desired radial when the needle is centred. You will need to compensate for wind appropriately.

Displaying X-Track deviation
You can display you current cross-track error in metres by toggling the menu option. This will show you the number of metres left or right of track when you close to less than 1km of your desired radial

Have used this app for a long time and it worked fine until I bought a new ASUS Zen tablet. Now there is no way to input a station frequency. The drop down selection screen is gone making the app unusable. Please fix this as I really enjoyed using this great app.

I had just installed this app on my Galaxy tablet and just flew a 119 nm cross country tracking two VORs. It was spot on for both VORs! I had even taken a photo of the 2nd VOR station (wish we could post photos here with our reviews) showing the station's location on top of a mountain. It's very accurate and highly recommend this app if your plane doesn't have a working NAV radio in it. I do have an excellent moving map app already on my tablet, but would like to stay current on my VOR navigation skills and that's why I chose to install and purchase this app. Great price also for this app!

App is not working on my Samsung J5. Is it just me, or anybody else is having the same problem?

C70%
by C####:

The List of VORS displayed is Huge and listed randomly regardless of Frequency or Distance, the fact that there is no and no search feature make it difficult to find the required VOR during flight.

Worked flawlessly right out of the "box" ! VOR and DME for $1.60 cents !!! No room for a VOR reciever and antenna in my antique aircraft. BINGO Problem solved. this simulated vor has no radio propagation problems in the mountains and valleys. Fabulous data base. Works exactly like a radio based VOR does. Every student pilot should use this in his car to learn the ways in which VOR navigation works... and doesn't ! Graphics are super, function is super. Professional in every way.

To use this app on Oneplus you need to activate the On-screen-navigation bar. Used this on Samsung previously, and this app is an absolute must for flying :)

Update. I recently upgraded my phone to a Samsung S5. Reloaded this app now the settings menu is not displayed making the app basically non funtional. I can't tune into any stations. I down loaded this app to keep my VOR nav chops up when flying a light sport. Tested it out on cross country from KWVI to KPRB. Worked very nicely - cross checked to panel instruments and it was on the money.

This app works exactly like I think it should. As a student pilot, I sometimes use this to practice navigation while my wife drives. In fact, I have it on my phone and tablet and practice locating position based on the intersects of the radials. (How about a version for the tablet with two displays on it?)

There is no way to change the frequency it just pops up with 999 and no menu

Utility would have been better if there was a toggle for to/from and to centre the needle, to enable a quick way to find heading to station as well as radial from station

I cannot make it working on Note4 android 4.4.4. When the satellite symbol stops blinking, and the wording "navdata valid" appears, actually nothing happens. No menu is available, only the radial selection bug works. On the lower window there is a fixed value "564" that does never change. Whta did I make wrong? please help. 12 jan 2015. found the"hidden" menu button on Note4. The app works well and does what promises.

Great, limited a bit by the weakness/time to acquire GPS on my Tesco Hudl but great ... Would like to be able to programming in eg KMB at Kemble and other non-listed ones. Thanks!

I haven't used it in the air yet, but I've had all sorts of fun using this app, along with the NDB app, in my car while I'm driving. Select a nearby VOR and give yourself some training exercises (without crashing into anyone). The OBS is a bit touchy, but otherwise it works great. Very realistic operation. Would be even better if I could use both apps, side by side, at the same time.
