4G map & speedtest for Android
MyMobileCoverage 1st place, CellMapper 2nd, OpenSignal tied with Sensorly 3rd, RootMetrics distant 4th but getting worse. But we should use all of them at the same time to create evidence carriers can't ignore. Each collects different data needed to see network problems.
I've run this on the past 2 phones I had and while it was great to compare Verizon coverage maps to real world signals I find myself finally wishing for more from this app. Just switched to Project Fi and would love to see the 3 carriers for Fi overlayed in a Project Fi carrier selection both in app and on the website. Still giving 5 stars as it not a deal breaker, just a wish list item. Update Nov '17: Still wish for a Project Fi selection. Or at least option to select multiple carriers.
It had me wondering with the access this app said it needed. But I installed, then it asked me to accept the Terms and Conditions, when you have an EUA longer than the Declaration of Independence your in trouble. I declined and uninstalled. "I dont need no stinking app that bad." Please people start rejecting any app that doesnt use decent terms, something like GPL.
Data hasn't shown up on the map for over a week now. I looked at Details -> Reporting it has said over 5000 messages to send and status says sending for at least the last few days. Seems nothing is being sent to the server.
After last update the new swipe features on the map were a bit confusing. Took me a couple weeks to realize the swipe update... Thought the maps were jacked up. ...minus one star for not being able to see other users speed tests
Great idea, app is nice and easy to use, but, whether I'm on the website or in the app, I'm always getting "The servers are overloaded, try again later". I've tried at different times of day, for the past few days. 'Maps' seems to work, speed test works. 'Compare' doesn't load. Haven't had time to test the 'map a trip' yet. Will try again, another time.
It's not open source, but it does job well. Other applications often REALLY do not measure net speed and are only made to display ads. This one offers not only speed check but mapping coverage and network providers, great.
Very nice... Gives a nice real world baseline expectation for coverage. Just small complaints... No gray circles to indicate a reading with no signal. The data displays slowly while website shows the data immediately.
Suspect it's causing excessive battery drain and poor performance. Has not been updated for Oreo 8.1. Uninstalled. Will update this as I know more.
Easy to use and looks great! Doesn't use too much battery, and you can set a percentage limit just in case. One of the apps I always install as it helps me keep track of where I have coverage in case I want to shop carriers for better deals. More trustworthy than carrier's maps.
I really like the Sensorly app. Besides testing the connection speed and actively surveying the signal on a trip, it can also passively survey the signal in the background, providing a more realistic coverage map than carriers do. It'd be nice if one could see the stronger of 4G, 3G and 2G on the map at the same time, instead of separate maps, one for 4G, another for both 3G and 2G. Though it's possible to limit how much battery this app uses in the background, the battery usage details report higher usage.
well the app works well and gives a good report on my local 4G performance. I only hope it is telling me the truth. On usb hotspot the Huawei P8 only gives me a download speed of 2mb/ sec, where as on its own it ran on this app at 12mb download.
Not bad, used a few days and find many places not mapped for 4g in NI. I see my trip from yesterday has been plotted. Would like to see 1 map for all carriers and modes. Ie show strongest signal available on strongest network. Would be good to integrate carriers PEW, mast location, dead spot alerts, reporting to carriers.
Informative. I love that this is available for consumer use! I'm trying to map areas around my house. Unfortunately some of my drips don't show up for whatever reason.
This app is great for comparing carriers and the interface is nice to look at too. What's nice about the crowdsourcing is that it can map 4g before the carrier even puts it on their own maps.
I want sensorly show, and map the frequency used, whether it's 600Mhz, 700, 800, 1700, 1900, 2.6Ghz and so on. And I want to have an option to automatically do transfer tests at different times of day, with a monthly cap on data usage for these tests. I also want to see 3g and LTE on the same map.
If you're someone that relies on their cell phone or tablet for entertainment purposes but you need to know if you're going to have a good signal then this is the app for you I have tried at least 12 different signal apps and this one is the coup de gras of them all
It's ok, but I really want to see the ability to generate maps of the trips I have recorded and submitted. iOS has this feature, and yet Android users are the ones actually contributing all the data.
It works ok, but annoyingly does not integrate submitted data into the map in any perceivable way and timeframe. Also, it does not show where LTE is not available, as it does with 3G.
This stopped working again on my Note 4. The app no longer logs my mobile signal.
Very useful to evaluate all carriers in the area before changing carriers. It just gets better all the time. I'm using it with Galaxy S7Edge and Tab S 9.7.
GOODBYE SENSORLY. Signal data is still not showing up for bsnl/cellone in AP/Telangana/Odisha/West Bengal states in india. I have no hopes that you would bother to update Indian Carrier data. So Many Updates and Still no data? Also carriers like vodafone, idea, reliance, etc. are launching 4G in india. Need to consolidate BSNL signals into single category in India. No response from the developer despite multiple requests in here and through website feedback form.
Good information , I can now keep track of the REAL results in speed, unlike carriers that say their better(T-Mobile).
Still after several contacts an map error in the south part of the Netherlands. They just don't fix it.
An app that shows REAL coverage for any cell phone carrier. Users submit actual data. You can see EXACTLY where you will have service or not. Great app.
Great app. Great potential. Depends on user input so some areas do not show coverage because no user has mapped that area.
If you are wanting to change networks, this app can save you a lot of aggravation!
Add support for Nigeria and carriers in Nigeria. Absolutely disgusted to find out that the country with the largest population in the continent is missing from your app.
It just doesn't pick up my actual location, it is showing me my location as a place which is around 15 kms away from me, what is the use and takes forever to load the data.
I like this so far. I'm on Google Fi service, so I kinda wish the app would show multiple data points simultaneously, such as Xfinity WiFi, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular. Maybe even enabling users to check favorites would be nice.
Pros: Free; no ads. Cons: Requires access to 5 permission categories. When I switch to "no contributory" of data in settings...the next time/second I access settings...it has magical switched to " passively contributory."
The long page that must be agreed to along with another thing that has to be okayed led to me uninstalling before getting to try.
Pretty cool speedmetrics good app tells the exact speeds. But don't you people have servers in India??
This app help me troubleshoot an issue with Sprint tech. I'm half mile from a tower but the tower was down for 3 days.
Super easy to use, great way to keep track of my network. Also used it to test another network to see if it fit my needs better.
Very slow reaction to add or remove LTE or WiFi network for an operator.
Keeps screen on not ok but nice other then that
I love this app is much more insightful than speedtest that only give you the current speeds.
Galaxy Note 3 on T-Mobile with Lollipop. I have used this application to map network coverage consistently and it works most of the time. Some of the results don't get uploaded and the application crashes, but it is generally good.

I use this all the time to map T-Mobile during my travels. I leave it in passive mapping until I go on longer trips. Then I change it to Map a Trip and plug it into the power plug and let it do it's thing. Uploads almost immediately. Good app!
