App Ops Starter for Android
Very useful pice of code! It will help you set hidden options in android to fully costumize access of installed apps...
...who probably doesn't like users who care about their privacy. The app was pretty good while it lasted. App Ops Starter, rest in piece - and *eat Google's brain* when the app right's revocation API is back!
Runs perfectly on my rooted 4.4.1 device. I just wish I could turn off the persistent drawer notification, otherwise five stars.
It seems to work brilliantly on KitKat. I feel much better now that I've disabled permissions on some apps that seemed totally unnecessary. Thank you!
Every time I turn the app on it closes down telling me the settings has stopped. I have no other option than uninstalling it
Great! I was trying to add activity links for EchoeRom settings after I enabled App Ops for 4.4.2 again (smali changes to settings), but couldn't get the link to work.. This app worked brilliantly to access app Ops on 4.4.2 after the said changes :)
Why should Google give you slaves the ability to control your privacy and security? Google must share and sell your personal private information to make billions and allow nefarious app makers the same ability to fleece you sheep.
One of my favourite apps - let's me regain control of my phone from the unreasonable permissions that some apps demand. Keep up the good work.
I have a galaxy s3 that used to have a really bad battery life. Now all I did was uncheck all of the wake locks and post notification boxes that were not necessary and now my battery lasts for hours more. Thank you noble citizen for sharing your work with us!
Finally, an app that lets us control the sometimes excessive permissions of other apps. Easy to use and worked fine on Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
I really did wonder why my battery saving app monitored my location. With this app, I got into a hidden part of Android and turned that permission off. I hear that all this will go away with Android 4.4.2, though.
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THE DEVS ONE QUESTION PLS? This app is amazing there is no doubt about that! it DOESNT ask for access to any of your files unlike similar apps do that are supposedly coded to stop other apps gaining access to your account whilst theirs needs access? anyways when i install an app it asks for access to most of my files BUT on this app "Apps Ops" it is only stating that the app i have just installed wants access to the camera when i know for certain the app i have just installed wants MUCH more so is this app badly built or does it need more work cause its not displaying ALL the accesses needed by other apps??
Took me a few minutes to actually find an App Ops that works with KitKat 4.42, but I just installed this Apps Ops Starter and went to a few applications and was easily able to disable some of their permissions. I am giving this app a 5-star rating. Should it stop working, I will update my review and rating.
With App Ops the Feds could be halted in their tracks on spying on cell phones. They worked a deal with google to remove the App. You can bet on this is what happened. There was no other reason to remove it. It wasnt hurting google.
I'm sure it is brilliant with 4.3 and 4.4 single user devices, but it doesn't work when a device operates in a multi-account environment... unfortunately. 3 stars for the app, but 5 stars for the developer creating this app.
I've got a 4.4.2 NON-rooted/modded AT&T Note 3 and this has worked from day 1 and still does (I just yanked all privileges from Facebook Messenger and can verify/prove that it works). I'm not happy with the way Google has done permissions for apps now and am very glad this still works - hopefully a way to implement it for all will be figured out.
I've had this app for a long time on my HTC One and it did what it was supposed to without the need to root. However, it simply opens "Settings" and doesn't do anything else on my Turbo 2. Supposedly it's Google's fault. I'll be trying this app about once a month and will update my review if it starts working on the Turbo 2.
Not bad but it doesn't list all the permissions required by the developer. Photos/Media/Files not listed in most of the apps. Try to download Daily News and you will see required 5 permissions and the apps displays only 2 to control. Please fix it and I will give you not 5 but 10 stars. Thanks
I have a new updated note 5. For some reason this app just stopped working. Instead of taking me to a list of my apps, it takes me to my settings menu. When I go to apps and click on one it brings up the normal options, its like this app isn't doing anything. It used to be so convenient. Please help/fix.
Running Cyanogenmod on a LG Nexus 5, Android 4.4.4. App crashes instantly on startup every time.
I have 4.4.2. (1) Been using this app for awhile. It works to control many permissions, but not all. (2) It's a bit of a pain bc it freezes out my settings screen and replaces it with the app ops screen. To access my settings i have to uninstall app ops, restart, and go into settings. I can download app ops again. But as soon as i open it again I'm frozen out of my settings. It's such a pain, but i put up with it bc i care more about privacy.
Fantastic app for getting to permissions. Loved using it until about 5 minutes ago when Google managed to block the permissions page and the app no longer works, nor do other app op apps.
Why Google doesn't have this functionality built in is a mystery. I found it to work with Kit Kat 4.4.2 on HTC One M7 Anybody else? ** Update Samsung Galaxy S5 not working! !
I can't run this app on my nexus 5 !! It always crash !!
Google removed their app permission manager from the OS entirely, so this no longer works. Looks like we're just forced to share all of our information with everyone if we want to download the simplest of apps. So f***ng tired of not having control over my OWN device!
Samsung Note 3, Lollipop 5.0. I will update if I experience problems.
This one does the job *without* root or sideloading. Aren't you trying to get control and security? Don't root unless you have to and try to install through the play store if you can. You don't know these devs and at least you limit your exposure. This app works on KitKat and doesn't add any new vulnerability. Nuff said.
Thank you so much! ! After a desperate search which almost ended up in vain... finally the real deal. I've been looking for a way to disable location data for some app. :D Screw you google. :p
This app is awesome. ..it doesnt require any permission on install..its working fine on my grand 2 with 4.4.2v... kudos to the developer...i played with changing the settings.to check whether what this app is doing...great....its working...it can cut app permissions to you contacts. ..sms....gallery...location. .etc..etc...finally i got admin rights to my phone..really recommended.
Works great, but it is changing permission after the installation, so for things you want to protect like contacts. You might not be able to prevent until it is to late.
Thanks to this apps I now know FB IS making phone call without my permission.. a minute ago good job keep this up it protects against unexpected charges and unwanted piracy breach.
Perfect! Works perfectly on all my Samsung devices and without root! Have tested on WhatsApp and other social media apps, if you turn off the mic and camera in the opps app, you cannot record or take photos meaning the app is working - essential to know you cannot be spied upon!
I love this app. It baffles me why more people aren't scared s**tless over the lack of accountability regarding permissions apps request. And this is the only thing I've found like it. But there are plenty of apps that it can't disallow permissions to (they show up in the list, but have no toggles available). Also, it would be very useful to have logging, so you can see when you disabled what. This would enable us users to selectively roll back changes that break functionality we didn't realize we needed.
Only the camera tab works for kitkat. Google turned off the others, including for mic and location. To block all you would need something like srt appguard if you dont want to root. Still tells you when permissions were used though.
Not working on my Moto E...on launch itself getting error " Unfortunately settings has stopped!" Please fix. I'm having android 4.4
Cause I would gladly pay for this app. Extends battery life, turning off notifications is a godsend. Anyway, great app, wish I would have found it sooner, I actually turned down lollipop 5.0 update.
I've been looking so long for an app that can do this that just works. Being able to use an app whilst keeping unwary intrusive permissions in check, a dream come true for smartphone users. It works with ease on my LG G3 with 5.0 One suggestion I do have which could make a difference, some type of guide, smart system or recognition which could intelligently distinguished & suggest which permissions are necessary and vital to the apps core function & which may Not be. Add that and you have a be-all end-all
Got the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" as soon as I first clicked it, uninstalled and reinstalled but didn't work, restarted the dev but still the same problem.. Android 4.4.4 You fix the problem, i fix 1 to 5 stars ;)
Galaxy S4 Zoom running KitKat 4.4.2, stock and unrooted as Samsung intended. I'm surprised this app works! It's brilliant. It's especially useful for turning all the location permissions off for power hungry apps which don't really benefit you from knowing your location. UPDATE: I've just discovered that after a reboot the permissions go back to normal :( But I guess if I reboot my phone once a week and redo all the permissions each time it'll be fine.

Yay!!! Working on Android 4.4 Kitkat, now I don't have to deal with crappy notifications and poor privacy control on apps by 2nd rate developers. Thank you!!
