Schoolicious

Dine out deliciously for healthy kids with Schoolicious, a unique partnership between Healthy Dining, participating local restaurants, Scripps Health and local schools.
Schoolicious is a public health research program created by Healthy Dining and funded by the National Institutes of Health. The purpose of the program is to create a year-round restaurant-focused fundraiser that specifically supports wellness programs at elementary schools.

Poway Unified and San Marcos Unified Elementary schools are taking the lead as the first communities in the U.S. to launch the Schoolicious program. The Schoolicious app features dietitian-approved Healthy Dining menu choices for adults and kids that have been approved by Healthy Dining’s team of registered dietitians. These menu items emphasize lean protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats.

Schoolicious restaurants contribute funds to the Schoolicious program and 100% of the contributions are provided to the school districts and divided evenly to participating elementary schools. The schools agree to designate 100% of the Schoolicious funds to wellness programs, such as PE and playground equipment, school gardens and/or nutrition education.
Schoolicious is a win-win for everyone: students, families, schools, communities and our nation.

Here’s how the program works:
 Download the FREE Schoolicious smartphone app and dine at any of the Schoolicious restaurants featured on the app (available for Apple and Android devices).

 Beacon technology is used to recognize when visitors are at a participating restaurant. Users will receive a prompt on their cell phone asking if they’d like to dine at the restaurant. Data and messaging rates may apply.

 Browse each restaurant’s Healthy Dining dietitian-recommended choices. Try one of the Healthy Dining options!

 After your meal, respond to the app prompt asking if you chose a Healthy Dining entrée. Choosing a healthy meal is not required for your school to receive the funds – we are tracking how many Healthy Dining meals are ordered for our research.

 Each restaurant pays a membership fee with 100 percent of those funds donated to the participating schools.

 Use the app anytime you dine at participating restaurants and you are supporting the restaurants that are supporting healthy kids.
