Scanthing (OCR & PDF Creator) for Android
Great as Scanner
This app works incredibly well once you get the hang of it. It has its limitations like anything else, but for a person like me with low vision it's a godsend. This app is well worth the money. There is a device on the market that does essentially the same thing that costs over 700 dollars. That makes this the bargain of the century.
I love this app. It is amazing!
Very good application.
Useless. OCR doesn't work.
I have a Reading Disability and would see this as extremely helpful. Could you add converting files, like, PDF or documents? If so, I could highly recommend your product to others in the Learning Disability world! Keep up the good work! Thanks
The server is virtually non-responsive making the program useless, unless you can wait as much as 15 minutes for the results. Prior to the server issues the program has been first rate. Edit: server appears to be working again. Speeds are good and quality is quite good. Doesn't do fractions very well. Back to 5 stars.
I love all the features in this app. I tried many other apps and so far this is the best. I don't regret buying it. It would be great if when cropping the picture we could all four lines independently because not all text are shown in the picture as perfect square. Other scanning apps beside moving the cropping lines independently they bring the cropped are toward us, this feature would be really helpful. A leveler would help too. Overall I'm satisfied but please consider adding this three new features.
Initial confusion eliminated (about saving docs), great to turn image (OCR) into text usable in .doc, to mail, or a variety of other options. Best OCR app I've tried, intuitive and as mentioned questions developer will actually address. Highly recommended!
I have waited a month to review this app, waiting for them to get their server problems from 2 months ago resolved. They have successfully "translated" one of the dozen photos I've uploaded. That one conversion took almost an hour and made my phone glitchy when I tried to use other apps while it worked. I am going to request a refund. I can't believe they have the gall to ask for money for an app that's clearly still VERY MUCH in the beta testing stages.
1 out of 20 texts are recognising, this leaves the entire app useless. I reinstalled as this was more than disappointing.
tried about 10x over a day to get a simle few words abel picture and on last attempt a small part of book page ocred but grt always no connectioc to serber error -neither can i get refund as in my country there is no google wallet, wasted almost 4€ for useless app /angry
It always say that their server is down
Servers often down, zero support. Useless.
I have positive emotion in my first try with estonian text.
Works much better than I'd have thought
Just scanned in a paper copy I needed to use in a document and it converted to text word for word with formatting such as dot points etc perfectly!
I would prefer local & faster ocr.
Really need to put a lot of effort in taking the picture, but when you get it right. It works as advertised. The OCR is 95 percent accurate.
FC on Nexus 7 2013
40% right, scattered all over the page and then shut down in the first 10 minutes.
Not working I want refund
Absolutely disappointed. Specially because I had paid for it. I'd like a refund.
Working great on my note 3
Take photo first and then open it from the gallery. If photo is taken with the application it is so low resolution that there is no way that anybody or anything could read the text from it. Seems to work reasonable well at least with German. One minus is the need of data connection which will limit much the usage abroad.
Best OCR app I have used so far, requires mobile connectivity but worth it for the quality of results, like that I can search for documents very easily. Update march : love the fact it finds telephone numbers and emails automatically from Images saves me having to type them in, very cool!
I'm giving for the following improvements: * Chinese ocr support * option to ignore sunr breaks * picture should optimize and find blocks the way camscanner does.

Do not purchase this app! It takes forever to get going. Once it is figured out and the OCR is in progress it is way past the 15 minute refund window from the Google Play Store.
Kudos to the devs. This is awesome.
I love this app. It is amazing!
OCR works really well! I purchased this app for quickly storing excerpts of text from books in order to add them to a digital library of research references. The only downside is that (as far as I can see) there is no option to export the text as a pdf, which is the format most compatible with research paper management software such as Endnote or Mendeley. With pdf export it would be 5/5!
App
I think that Scanthing is a very good app and fills a gap between Google Goggles (not working at all for OCRing a document) and Google Drive (that does a good job on the OCR side, but it's not optimal to have the recognized text document back on the phone... for this a further manual procedure is required). Scanthing recognition is good and the workflow is fast and easy. Good customer support too. I hope it will go on with further developments (and I know it will...). For now it's well worth the price...
Looks like a good, well designed, and well built app. I assume that for some languages it works well. Unfortunately it fails with Russian text, even on textbook writing that forms totally continuous chunks. It skips words entirely, and renders paragraphs totally insensible. I would happily send the developers pictures of text that has not worked, as I would love to get it working as it is otherwise a much better designed piece of software than that which I must use instead (Mobile OCR Pro). The things that make it a better piece of software are basically: it lets you modify text before sending it to other apps, and it lets you crop the picture before analysis. Just a shame the app doesn't do it's core function properly.
Does an amazing job with character recognition. Couldn't be better.
Packed full of features I didn't think that I would use. The time to extract the text from a full page article was roughly 10 seconds over a good 3g connection.
Super excellent!
I use this to upload my recipes from my cookbooks to my phone. The picture scanning isn't perfect, but gets 95% correct & the small editing I have to do,beats typing it all by hand! My most useful app yet.

UPDATE It NO LONGER WORKS! It ran just ONCE, and then HUNG It seemed to work well - albeit via the Internet & their Server, but quickly & pretty accurately. Just hope that continues, and that the "doom sayer" comments made by others are just a reflection of (other) User incompetence!
