The Mercury News e-Edition for Android
App crashes frequently. Very bad user experience - when zooming in to read it zooms out or crashes.
For the first time in its history, this app has no major bugs. Page flipping is still too slow, but otherwise it's fairly usable.
Worse app I have used. You guys have a very poor paper and your app reflects your inability to create quality products.
I love it...but I still miss the hard copy.
Navigation, rendition and speed are poor. No way to share stories other than Facebook book which shares the wrong story. Better to access the. Mercury thru the Web.
How can BANG in good consciousness require readers to get a subscription for the privilege to use their VERY broken apps. Not this news hound... I'll go elsewhere.
Doesn't work with Kit kat android 4.4 worked fine with 4.3. No pictures with KitKat. Seems to load very slow also. Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.
This app continues to be one of the most brain-dead products on the planet. I paid for a subscription to the Mercury News and I cannot access today's paper or yesterday's through this app. When are you guys going to get a real development team, and when are you guys going to actually start testing this bleeping thing? My frustration and disappointment are boundless here.
Does not work at all, an embarrassment for silicon Valley.
As bad as everyone else says
Crashes regularly. Slow. Reading pane is 2 small. Refuses to load current version. Pos
Agree you cannot read past 1st paragraph. Touchy as articles resize with the slightest touch and some never come into focus while reading them. Are you sure this is Silicon Valley's newspaper as app is poor.
Articles are very blurry. Can not read offline. Wish SJ Mercury had a .pdf version & I can download it.

The concept of the app is great. Layout looks like the news paper so it's easy to browse. The problem comes if one wants to actually read an article. Tap on the area and the article appears below in plain text. Still good. Try to read it and scroll up from the bottom to continue and it gets stuck. Either it scrolls up erratically or not at all, or only sometimes. I tried this on Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013 both get stuck, no scroll. On Nexus 4 it works somewhat but erratic. For now I use the other app Bay Area News. That one works but does not have the nice scroll options. So please fix it and it will go from one star to five.
Junkware. My apologies in having previously dismissed this so-called app, even as I noted (back then) that there were only "18 other people" having reviewed this app. Early and limited reviews can be misleading. Now I have good news: more reviews have increased the total review count by threefold. The results are much more convincing -- and BAD. Look at the (current) numbers -- more than 5 times as many 1-star ratings as 5-star with very little in between. (For my part, I can't imagine who would rate this app as 5-star; it really deserves zero stars, but that's not an option). Avoid this pile of bytes.
I've tried this app on 3 different tablets (nexus 7, nexus 9, galaxy tab) and the text version of the articles do not scroll up. You only get to read the 1st paragraph of each article. Are you serious! A newspaper app that doesn't let you read articles. Brilliant!

can not scroll well ....
I need a better app.
Freezes on startup. Nexus 7, Lollipop
The installation stalled until local cache was cleared as suggested by a reviewer. Don't see the improvements advertised yet it ask for re-login when I leave then return to this app. Not every time though. Appears to be random. At least, haven't seen consistency yet, if any. Very annoying!
Thought i'd switch to Android due to Apple making old ipads not work with new ios, this app is 15% of the ipad functions. Can't zoom. Only goes to text story. No pictures, just takes away the feel of reading the paper like a newspaper. This looks like I'm reading news delivered thru my text. BAD, BAD, BAD!......01/25/15, been using this for a month. OMG! This app makes me want to listen to the radio. It is so frustrating. The time it takes to do simple functions is clear sign of bad programming.
At first took forever to focus, now won't even open
Samsung galaxy note 4. Lousy app! Lots of freezes! Doesn't run smoothly. Neither the text mode nor the graphics mode work well.
Have to reinstall frequently or it just doesn't work.
Very slow to load. Poor selection of various editions
Sucks
Don't even pass beyond the opening page. Can't believe people put such a junk on the market.
If you have been using this app, since the latest update you must go to settings/applications and clear cache to get the app running again.
This app has never performed well, now they have the audacity to charge!?
Didn't work on my Galaxy S3.
Wouldn't update. Had to uninstall the previous version
This version won't download the whole edition just the current page. It also will not log me into my account. ThebIpad version works very well I hope they fix this.
FC every so often on xoom but still quite usable.. Needs to remember which edition I've selected.
With only 18 other people reviewing this app, the statistics are potentially specious, but look at how many "1 star" ratings there are for this app. Google Play doesn't offer "zero stars" but that's what this app deserves. Horribly slow, horribly confusing, never seems to respond the same way twice, doesn't work on pad devices or on phones. DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP.
It keeps asking to update when you try to open it and when you update it keeps going back that there's an update available. :-(:-(:-(
Possibly the worse UI I've ever used. Really?
Really bad app for Android. Screen stays black.

When are you guys going to fix the zoom out behavior? I'm reading on a mobile device, so have to pinch zoom in to read the text. OK, fine. But then WHY does it zoom all the way back out when I merely touch the screen, and thus LOSE my carefully selected zoom level? SUCH a PITA.
