E-Smart Refrigerator for Android
Struggled to get it to work. After many fruitless attempts, it began working after I had unplugged the fridge when I cleaned behind it, then plugged it in again. Even then, I could: see the freezer and refrigerator temps, but not change them; turn on the Ice Maker, Power Cool, Power Freeze and Defrost features; and see Power Consumption. It does not notify me when the door is left ajar. That would be useful. Since the app is only functional within the home network, so what? Not worth the cost IMO.
What good is a remote app that doesn't work when you are remote? This app only works within the range of your home wireless router, so why not just get up off the couch and look at the refrigerator directly? This is a really lame stupid app. I think that Samsung only created this because LG has one too (which is allegedly just as dysfunctional.) UPDATE - once you have configured this app, it is impossible to change the refrigerators network connection! Other than delete the SSID from your network,
I just bought a Samsung Model # RF24J9960S4. It talks about the E-Smart in the booklet, and it has an indicator on it's control panel. However, this F'ing app apparently doesn't support this fridge. Nor does Samsung apparently make another app. Nice. In addition, I tried to use this app before I checked supported model numbers. It seems like it is going to work, but all it does is kick my phone off the network, and actually remove the network from my WiFi connections. Smooth. Not too impressed, Samsung...
Bought a new Samsung refrigerator (Model RF34H9960S4 . . . another reviewer claims to have connected to this one) and tried to register/connect the app and the fridge. After a dozen or more attempts, it won't connect. This is a piece of crap app. I expect better from Samsung, especially when this refrigerator costs well over $4,000. After this issue, a previous bad fridge, and the Note7 debacle, I will never buy another Samsung product.
The app works for me, though I did have a bit of trouble at first. Apparently, the fridge doesn't like 5 GHz 802.11n connections, so I had to connect it to the 2.4 GHz network. The app also asks for lots of permissions which should not be necessary (most of which I've disabled through the permissions controls added in Android 6.0). I have not encountered an actual app crash thus far.
Just as many others here, I can't get this thing to work. Horrible UI, no feedback. I just gave up on this. I moved into a house with all samsung appliances, wasn't my choice, I think they only build crappy products
Don't waste your time trying to get this piece of junk app to work. It connects to wifi occasionally...but never is solid. I uninstalled...SAMSUNG should be ashamed of even putting this junk out there. Read the reviews..it works for about 1 in 10 people!!!
The app works. Very simple. People are saying that the App junk and I believe it. But the fridge is not compatible with 5Ghz wifi connection. Try using standard 2.4ghz wifi. It should connect fine.
Only accessible if you are close to your refrigerator. If you are close why not just look at the display. Totally useless.
Was able to connect only once, then it never connected again. Poor interface, very slow. I've uninstalled it.
Upgraded routers and never was able to connect again after numerous tries. Very disappointing that Samsung can't solve this.
Nervous after reading reviews but it worked perfectly for me on Nexus 5x with Marshmallow.
After having finished setup, it doesn't reconnect. Time for a redo.
False advertising, this refrigerator and app is not smart at all.
Cute, but not worth the setup time.
Works perfectly for my RF34H9960S4/AA
works as advertised for me
JUNK
Useless
works fine with Galaxy S5. can change options, but would be cool if temperature settings couls be changed. and the app would be available outside WiFi. graph on power consumption is useful monitoring tool
This app is completely horrible, doesn't connect to the fridge at all. I had it actually connected once for about an hour. Never again since then. The UI is horrible, the programming is bad... just all around a very poorly designed and flawed app in every way
Never got to connect to app. Home network shows fridge connected with an ip address. Contacted Samsung support twice and both times was of no help. Second rep. basically hung up on me after 2 tries.
The app works as directed. It was a challenge setting it up and getting the device to register to the app, but once installed as long as I stay on my LAN WiFi it connects no problem. What i am really waiting for is a way to connect via the API so that i can integrate with smart things.
Connected once for about a week, then never again.
There were some trouble during initial connection but since connected it works. Would be nice if it showed per day power consumption histogram, not just cumulative for the month.
Registration tones out but then is connected. You can enter power freeze mode but not leave it. But then it is turned off anyways.
Why exactly does this app need permission to edit my calendar events and send emails to my guests without my knowledge (among other seemingly unnecessary permissions like access to contacts and ability to record audio)? The power monitor is cool but not worth the invasion of privacy. Uninstalling now.
Got my new fridge compressor didn't work when it was plugged in called Samsung sent someone after one week to fix it and now my WiFi doesn't work they haven't called back one week about fixing it again
The app does nothing. Would like to see power consumption over time and not just one month. Can't control temp from app. Come on Samsung, you can do better
Fixed S5 crash. But app interface isn't super intuitive. The Defrost Delay schedule is a good idea. And it does allow the addition of two extra schedules. But why not allow us to modify the existing ones to fit our hydro utility time-of-use schedule? It's not of much use without allowing that. What time-of-day is the fridge using? It's not displayed anywhere. Making the schedule mentioned above again kind of useless. What's the MAC? What's the IP address? Seems like basic info that could easily be displayed.
This App does not work . Don't waste your time.
Try and try as you may it won't connect.
Serisously? I got a brand new S5 with Lollipop on it and this doesn't work? Come on samsung! Your app doesn't even work with your phones? I'm so regretting buying your products. I got a fridge, washer drier, tablet, and a phone. Your support is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. I'm done spending thousands of my hard earned money on crap that doesn't work.
The feature I really wanted was Defrost Delay, and it doesn't work. Samsung "support" says it requires Smart Grid which is not available and don't hold my breath for it And it shouldn't need to read my phonebook, including confidential information. That makes it malware as far as I'm concerned. I was really excited to get a wifi-enabled refrigerator. This lame app sure cured that.
Samsung has apparently just abandoned this app with no replacement so once I went to lollipop on my phone the app now just crashes out. Last time I had an issue with a Samsung online account setting this app up they were all but helpless so I doubt this app will ever be updated and now I have a connected refrigerator that I can't communicate with anymore. AWESOME JOB SAMSUNG! [Update 05/25/2015] They've just updated the app, YAY! it no longer instantly crashed on Lollipop! BOO! it doesn't actually work and so far I have not been able to get it to connect the fridge to the AP.
It works and shows the information and the door alarm works. It is a little strange it shows the temperature settings and not the current temperature which is more relevant.
Now works on my nexus 5, however only when I'm home and doesn't offer all that much functionality. Neat, not sure how long it'll be installed.
Can't make it to work on my one plus one with lollypop. Crashes immediately the moment I start the app.
This app won't open on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

This is what the consumer gets when a company wants to advertise a product as Smart without any effort. I'm no tech guru but I've been setting up "Smart" products enough to know the difference between truly Smart products and ones who wants to slap "Smart" on the side of the box so they can advertise "Smart" to consumers. Samsung you should be ashamed to put out an interface like this! When you get this working there's not much to see or do. Put Android device on top of fridge during final step of setup.
